People can say what they like about the antiquated look of this forum, about the lack of Upvotes, Downvotes, Likes, etc, but the user interface quickly forces conversation and therefore arguments to be put forward, otherwise posters flounder as they’re unable to assert their positions effectively.
I have a theory that the restrictiveness of Twitter, FB, Instagram hugely contributes to the demise of debates. When you've only got 180 characters or you don't want a post to take up half a page, it very quickly descends into the exchanging of soundbites rather than nuanced discussion.
An ex-friend (beardy woke bloke - what a shock!) unfollowed me on Twitter because I followed someone he deemed a TERF.
I got a slating for reading a book by someone deemed a TERF. However, I'm still not sure if it was the author's beliefs or the fact that a woman was educating herself by reading (and therefore not taking his advice) that offended him the most.
