Please sign into CSP and look at the new iCSP discussion "Stonewall and the CSP"

A great thread beginning and agreement that stonewall are problematic and women's rights are being overlapped by male rights

Then a HUGE ESSAY by a TRA

Sad

They must be coming close to appointing a new CEO, I wonder who it'll be? I've not heard any rumours. If it's RM then game over for us and we'll all be shipped off to to be re-educated!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 13/08/2023 09:44

A more political tone” would fit with the transphobia stuff, so at least that’s consistent. How can they develop a position statement on something they can’t define? It’s just embarrassing.

RM hadn’t mentioned applying, I wonder what the selection process is like? There must be council interviews. It’s doomed anyway, everyone is too scared to speak up

I don't know but if I get it, I will write my mind if there are spaces for me to!

I looked at that. I don't want to put my email on it if I am speaking up about how daft asking about "identifying as" female or male or non-binary or 'other' but I can't bring myself to fill in the damn thing even without my email. If they aren't even asking sex but are asking what you "identify as" then clearly they know nothing about data or proper research so what's the point Angry

It smacks of the Spartans and the Helots…

"The helots were invited by a proclamation to pick out those of their number who claimed to have most distinguished themselves against the enemy, in order that they might receive their freedom; the object being to test them, as it was thought that the first to claim their freedom would be the most high spirited and the most apt to rebel. As many as two thousand were selected accordingly, who crowned themselves and went round the temples, rejoicing in their new freedom. The Spartans, however, soon afterwards did away with them, and no one ever knew how each of them perished."[33]

Have they announced the new CEO yet? I'm not sure if I missed it. If they've got their pronouns in their Twitter bio then it'll be game over
🤨

RadFizz · 13/10/2023 08:47

Ah here we are https://www.csp.org.uk/news/2023-10-12-csp-confirms-appointment-john-cowman-next-chief-executive

Funny how in a profession that's majority female they manage to find a man for the top job.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/10/2023 16:45

comprehensive knowledge of EDI? That's a statement from the CSP. You can have all the policies you like, sex is immutable, the Equality act is real but I'm not so sure about gender.

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/10/2023 16:48

His LinkedIn says "I am an open and authentic individual". I wonder what that means? As opposed to a closed and inauthentic multiple?

RadFizz · 13/10/2023 17:36

As he's a gay man I'm wondering just what kind of diversity he's most interested in? On the other hand his LinkedIn doesn't have pronouns so you never know!

vivariumvivariumsvivaria · 13/10/2023 18:58

Oh, neither it does. That is interesting, I don't use LinkedIn so I hadn't spotted that. he's at least got clinical experience and is not Rob the communications guy.

Nothing in the chairs statement about the impact of the Middle East on members who are either Jewish, Muslim or has links to Israel or Palestine? https://www.csp.org.uk/news/2023-10-19-csp-chairs-statement-gaza-israel

I don't know why it is necessary to comment on war and politics at all - our remit is anatomy and function and surely our trade union should stick to political issues which affect members.

Is Ishmael going to comment on the plastic-berg in the ocean? On the plight of child soldiers in the DRC? On the famine that's about to explode in the Horn of Africa? Or, does he only react to the latest hashtag?

Actually, I'd be quite interested in his thoughts on the WRN report about how many rapes and sexual assaults happen on mixed sex wards. <crickets>

CSP chair’s statement on Gaza and Israel

A statement from Ishmael Beckford, chair of CSP Council.

Totally 100% agree. No political anything please from CSP. Only professional support and education as we are paying for that and not partisan politicking.

This is the problem with playing with politics - you can make clumsy mistakes. I know RM has friends in Palestine and has worked there, but a Jewish physio was kidnapped and no comment at all?

it’s like the gender stuff, it’s complex and you have to know what you are doing before you comment or you can cause upset if not real harm.

I hope she makes it back to her family soon, I don’t pretend to understand the Middle East, which is why I’d not comment publicly.

It all seems to have gone quiet on the trans front but I heard through the grapevine that the LGBT network are not happy with what they perceive as CSP's inaction on transphobia. It's interesting isn't it, how that always becomes the most pressing of equality issues over say, racism or ableism?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 28/10/2023 15:52

They need to define transphobia before acting on it, and that turned out to be a big “too hard”.

bet Karen Middleton can’t wait for January.

RadFizz · 28/10/2023 16:07

Yes, and I suspect that was because the network won't be happy with anything other than an unquestioning acceptance of TWAW.

northender · 04/11/2023 22:00

Just noticed RM no longer has pronouns on twitter

stealtheatingtunnocks · 05/11/2023 20:18

That’s a surprise

stealtheatingtunnocks · 05/11/2023 20:20

They are back now, but no trans flag. I’m here she had that before?

northender · 05/11/2023 22:08

Pronouns are in her bio but I'm sure they used to be visible on her tweets but not now & yes she definitely had the flag too.

RadFizz · 05/11/2023 22:15

Pronouns are still there, plus old-fashioned rainbow flag rather than the new version. Took me a moment to realise "Ass editor" wasn't some sort of joke!

stealtheatingtunnocks · 05/11/2023 23:41

Well, that’s possibly quite significant. Perhaps there are changes
