BBC responds to backlash to article about lesbians being pressured into sex by some trans women

BBC spokesperson said: “The article looks at a complex subject from different perspectives and acknowledges it is difficult to assess the extent of the issue.

“It includes testimony from a range of different sources and provides appropriate context. It went through our rigorous editorial processes.

“It is important that journalism looks at issues - even where there are strongly held positions. The BBC is here to ensure debate and to make sure a wide a range of voices are heard.”

Very pleased to see this. I remember the days when such a response would have been unremarkable, but there has been such a lot of capitulating to the bullying, howling and threatening of the mob that this seems like a Big Deal!

I was expecting this thread to say that the BBC had issued a grovelling apology! Great to see the BBC backing up their reporter.

I was honestly expecting them to cave in and grovel for forgiveness.

The opening letter was just a shit load of emotional blackmail.
Again painting LGBA as anti trans, and the whole narrative that get the L out "view transwomen as men" as if they are somehow miraculously not a subset of the male sex class just because they say so.

I'm yet to be convinced the BBC have changed their spots, but it's a good start

There are surely analysts at the BBC, and throughout media on general, who look at places like twitter (maybe even mums net?) as a gauge of public opinion on issues such as this?

I ask because, when I look through twitter I see a huge surge of GC support. Almost a complete turn around from only a year ago, maybe? Lots of people - and obviously smart, articulate people - entering the discussion and then trending topics, hashtag campaigns, followers numbers shrinking and growing..... It is certainly not a one horse race any more, anyway.

I wonder if that has an effect on what is now being published and discussed?

Where is the open letter? The Attitude article is just a woman I've never heard of in a magazine I've never heard of having a rant in an " I haven't experienced this so it's not true " way
