BBC spokesperson said: “The article looks at a complex subject from different perspectives and acknowledges it is difficult to assess the extent of the issue.

“It includes testimony from a range of different sources and provides appropriate context. It went through our rigorous editorial processes.

“It is important that journalism looks at issues - even where there are strongly held positions. The BBC is here to ensure debate and to make sure a wide a range of voices are heard.”

@rabbitwoman

There are surely analysts at the BBC, and throughout media on general, who look at places like twitter (maybe even mums net?) as a gauge of public opinion on issues such as this?

I ask because, when I look through twitter I see a huge surge of GC support. Almost a complete turn around from only a year ago, maybe? Lots of people - and obviously smart, articulate people - entering the discussion and then trending topics, hashtag campaigns, followers numbers shrinking and growing..... It is certainly not a one horse race any more, anyway.

I wonder if that has an effect on what is now being published and discussed?

I’ve certainly noted a decline on automatic ‘likes’ s d comments on these sorts of tweets - there was a moment where it felt like everyone was in approval and now I notice the relative lack of support and wonder if a silent majority are considering different points of view…

@2Rebecca

Where is the open letter? The Attitude article is just a woman I've never heard of in a magazine I've never heard of having a rant in an " I haven't experienced this so it's not true " way

Most of that letter content is outrage that people know what sex men are.

It's quite surreal.

littlbrowndog · 27/10/2021 22:52

You can’t take daz obe seriously when he asks who can I complain to.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

HirplesWithHaggis · 27/10/2021 22:57

That open letter starts well...

The day this open letter is being written (26th October 2022), you published an article on the BBC News website by Caroline Lowbridge titled 'We're being pressured into sex by some trans women'

Can't even get the date right.

SpindleWorl · 27/10/2021 22:59

'Catherine Lowbridge'??

The open letter organisers can't even get her name right ffs. It's Caroline Lowbridge in the BBC article header.

Sloppy.

But the BBC define homosexuality as attraction to someone of the same gender. (see their News Style Guide). They define gender as what you identify as.

NoSquirrels · 27/10/2021 23:01

I mean, this is quite a reach…

-the clear implication of the article and its headline is that transgender women as a minority group pose a threat to cisgender lesbians, and should therefor have their rights restricted in the UK-

SpindleWorl · 27/10/2021 23:03

Got a bit ahead of the actual law there, didn't they?

I wonder if ... oh of course they've had the training.

Enough4me · 27/10/2021 23:09

@334bu thanks for the link to give the BBC anonymous feedback, I tried it and it's very straightforward and great idea to let them know that people want the truth reported

That's a long long letter. If you actually make it to the end, it gives a link for people to complain about the BBC article. With no sense of irony it recommends being clear, concise and direct. If only they had followed their own advice, it might have gone better for them. The constant repetition of "woman with a penis" is hard to ignore.

Lammysaurus · 27/10/2021 23:18

I’m going to carry a serious complaint to the heart of Government and seek apology and change. To whom do I speak for comment and correction?

"HeLlO, yEs, BoZzA? I'm hAvInG s0mE g1rL pRoBlEmS...."

2Rebecca · 27/10/2021 23:18

Lots of students and software developers.

21budgies · 27/10/2021 23:18

The Open Letter repeats over and over again that transwomen are legally women in the UK. Whereas that only applies to those with a Gender Recognition Certificate. Why is it ok for them to lie constantly?
And I wonder how they would respond if an academic wanted to do academic research on lesbians being pressurised into sex with transwomen?

@Imnobody4

Well Labour MP Ben Bradshaw supported him but doesn't count as high levelmof government.
A man supporting men's right to assault and rape, or at the very least making it known that women really should not complain about this. What a surprise

Good lord, I couldn't get through that letter.

And yes, it looks like the collective effort of the student union. What with the liberal use of cis and the ever bonkers outrage that people know transwomen aren't actually women.

I honestly thought it was going to be something a little meatier. But then I remembered there isn't anything

What ‘hate campaign on Sundays’?
EastWestWhosBest · 27/10/2021 23:43

In reference to the picture.
