Prof Robert Winston has just stated very clearly that it is not possible to change sex.

In relation to freedom of speech and Kathleen Stock.

How on earth does Alison McGovern take up so much airtime with her waffle when she quite clearly has zero grip on the sex/gender argument and absolutely no idea quite what Kathleen Stock has said or believes in? What has this country come to? Waffle waffle. Bla bla. How does someone like Fiona Bruce even allow her so much TIME?

RavenT · 15/10/2021 07:34

Was also cheering at the TV when he spoke. Loved it when he said you should be more interested in my opinion as a biologist...

It was depressing that Fiona Bruce looked so uncomfortable though, 'there are a lot of people will disagree with you....' ffs Sad

Blessex · 15/10/2021 07:34

And why aren’t people challenging statements such as ‘science has shown people can be born into the wrong body’. If I was on there - these are the statements I would Hmm to.

KittenKong · 15/10/2021 07:44

There would be blustering, waffling, tears, attacks and tantrums. Too much drama and snot for tv.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/10/2021 07:47

I would LOVE to be able to watch this but can't because not in UK and BBC and fecking licence etc. VPNs are spotted too, so it won't play through one.
Hopefully someone will upload some of it to Youtube soon...

Go Prof Winston!

PeriChristmas · 15/10/2021 07:51

Viviennemary
Thats good. I agree. But I still think trans men and trans women should have rights
.
Of course. No one is disputing that. But women have rights as well and we are not going to give them up.

Why is this complicated to some people?! 🤷‍♀️

Does she disagree though really?
justbackfrombangkok · 15/10/2021 07:53

I do worry that the clever, sensible people are getting on in years. Whatever will we do without them?

This is when I’m reminded of Germaine Greer replying “I don’t care!” when asked in an interview what she thought about some people being offended by her view that transwomen aren’t women.
1Endeavour2 · 15/10/2021 07:56

River Winston is awesome for a variety of reasons. However what he said about biology is not top level but mainstream GCSE biology. Truly we are a nation of morons and the drama student presumably never studied basic biology?

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 15/10/2021 07:58

Ha. Some fab person has uploaded only his responses onto YT - thank you to that fab person, have now seen how Prof W answered but not how the others did.
He did very well though!

Blessex · 15/10/2021 07:59

@PeriChristmas because some people hear what they want to hear. The only thing we can do is keep repeating - yes we believe in trans rights too!!!!

PronounssheRa · 15/10/2021 08:01

How on earth does Alison McGovern take up so much airtime with her waffle when she quite clearly has zero grip on the sex/gender argument and absolutely no idea quite what Kathleen Stock has said or believes in?

I don't think anyone in Labour understands it. I do think they are being briefed, very badly by their staff and can't be bothered checking the information themselves
See also Taiwo Owatemi 'I don't know what Kathleen has written but I'm going to burn the witch anyway'

Blessex · 15/10/2021 08:06

@PronounssheRa is fucking depressing. Why don’t they educate themselves and have a genuine point of view. It’s their jobs ffs. They are MPs. They need a clear point of view. And it is so OBVIOUS when they don’t have one. Alison at the end has a clear and informed point of view. Maybe she doesn’t have one on sex/gender but she had one on freedom of speech. And that’s where she focussed. Alison just wiffle waffled. You could tell from her dry mouth she was caught out and like a rabbit in the headlights. But on and on she went.

Hopefully most of the presently young and credulous will grow up, experience the real world and change their views.
Blessex · 15/10/2021 08:08

*I meant Anne at the end had a clear POV

borntobequiet · 15/10/2021 08:09

I mean I hope they all grow up and that most change their views!

Blessex · 15/10/2021 08:10

@borntobequiet our youngsters have swallowed the whole chill pill with zero critical thinking. Hopefully they will stop watching tik tok videos and grow out of it. My fear however is social media headlines will forever now over ride critical thought.

justbackfrombangkok · 15/10/2021 08:11

I dont know. Look at the number of MPs who are completely ignorant and credulous. Most of them have degrees. They ought to be grown up, but I am not seeing it.

Cwenthryth · 15/10/2021 08:16

Just watched it.

Chapeau to the editor that cut from drama student waffling about “people can be born in the wrong bodies, there’s loads of science on that” straight to Robert Winston with his head in his hands.

Rummikub · 15/10/2021 08:18

Perhaps the professor should do a tik tok... So he reaches a different audience.

Runningupthecurtains · 15/10/2021 08:18

It would have been better if Prof Winston had been given the chance to ask her to show him the science.

EmbarrassingHadrosaurus · 15/10/2021 08:22

It comes to us all.
KittenKong · 15/10/2021 08:23

It could be a whole tv show. I’d watch that!
lazylinguist · 15/10/2021 08:23

I missed this, but it sounds very encouraging. The more people hear respected, intelligent, clear, logical speakers showing up thid ridiculous ideology for the nonsense it is, the better.

you get to feel safe by feeling it's okay to disagree rather than a world in which everyone agrees with you.

What a very good point!
