labourlist.org/2021/09/anti-trans-members-are-dinosaurs-who-want-to-hoard-rights-says-lammy/?amp&__twitter_impression=true

Its hard to describe how angry this article made me. I am sick to the back teeth of the lies and slurs being told about women who want to protect absolutely basic rights and safeguarding.

Dinosaurs who want to 'hoard' rights. That's the contempt that the Labour party has for women in prisons who are assaulted and intimidated by the males they are now being housed with. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are traumatised women who are too scared to access refuges that males might be in. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are women athletes who reject being told to 'be kind' and hand over what they have worked their hold life for, to males who have an inbuilt biological advantage.

Women really aren't entitled to anything but insults when they try to speak up for themselves in the Labour party. Ironic really that we are called Dinosaurs when the Labour party is clearly reverting to its unionist roots when unions wanted to keep women in their place to protect male members advantage.

But most disgusting is the utterly unself-aware and hypocritical way Lammy advocates for positive discrimination for black men, a group of people he can understand face disadvantage (being one), so he wants to increase HIS social groups rights rights whilst gleefully not only removing women's basic rights but throwing insults at us for objecting to this.

That's it. Not only will I not vote for Labour again but I am going to become an active campaigner against them. They are beyond disgusting in their utter misogyny.

I used to quite like Lammy but he came across really badly in that interview.

At least I thought he did. DH doesn’t seems to be one of those people for whom it isn’t an issue cough a man! cough. So maybe when Lammy says for most people don’t think it’s an issue he’s mixing up the word ‘people’ with ‘men’.

EdgeOfACoin · 30/09/2021 10:51

That's right, SirSamuel

Iggly · 30/09/2021 10:52

I think David Lanny along with many others are suffering from cognitive dissonance when it comes to trans rights and that’s why they get so angry.

Deep down, their internal logic is colliding with fact. Deep down. And that’s why they’re angry. I used to be similar - but then did a bit of reading and found the words to explain why it didn’t make sense really and I had to rise above the whole “trans rights are human rights” slogan and TERF abuse.

People are trying to give trans peoples rights on the cheap by trashing safe spaces for women. By women I mean biological females.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 30/09/2021 10:57

Yes, that poor youngster, whose entire life to date has been on TV for all to gawp at and whose travails must have made the extended family a small fortune. I feel desperately sorry for J.

SylviaTrench · 30/09/2021 11:00

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

I assume it would heal up but given where it is in the body there would be a very high chance of infection and possibly issues of odour.

I have read before that there have been anecdotal cases of transwomen succumbing to dementia and amongst the things they've forgotten is the transition. I wonder if any academics are attempting to study this. I don't imagine there are many cases.

Thank you. I've been a carer for elderly people and dementia patients, so it's a subject I'm interested in.

My dad had advanced dementia and completely lost all sense of ego, and who he was as a person.

I don't think they believe a word of what they are being told to say which is why they stumble and stutter through the script and end up saying nonsense.

Rather than stupid, I think they are liars and cowards

There is surprisingly little about that in this document about transgender people with dementia which was produced for the NHS in Wales.

www.wales.nhs.uk/sitesplus/documents/861/Supporting%20Me%20Transgender%20%20Dementia%20-%20final.pdf

But it does say this:

A person may not recall their current gender. They may see themselves as being pre-transition resulting in heightened disorientation and anxiety. They may be surprised to see the physical changes that have occurred.

This twitter thread was posted earlier in this thread. A reminder that David Lammy was involved in getting the GRA through parliament in 2004.

Or perhaps they haven't really thought it through for themselves, and don't know why they believe it. I think that considering it's "a minor issue" of "no concern on the doorstep", they simply haven't put any effort into understanding the implications, which is why they get floored by simple questions.

Call them what you want, I think they know that the logic doesn’t stack up.

Isn't being unprepared to make a press statement on such a contentious subject really odd in itself?

RoyalCorgi · 30/09/2021 16:37

Lammy is an idiot. He made a really controversial and provocative statement, attacking women in his own party, and then when asked to expand on it got very angry and said the interviewer should be asking him about more important stuff.

Well, mate, if you don't want to be asked about why you've called your own colleagues dinosaurs, then don't go round calling them dinosaurs - that's my advice.

Plus if you're going to wade in on the issue of whether only women have a cervix, take the trouble to find out what a cervix is first.

foxgoosefinch · 30/09/2021 16:39

The sheer blatant sexism of displaying just how angry you are that women have any opinions about their rights, and how inconsequential you think those opinions are.

Hello new misogyny, same as the old misogyny.

PurgatoryOfPotholes · 30/09/2021 16:43

Lammy is an idiot. He made a really controversial and provocative statement, attacking women in his own party, and then when asked to expand on it got very angry and said the interviewer should be asking him about more important stuff.

And he did this twice. If you listen to the Radio 4 interview and the Radio 5 one, he says exactly the same things when pressed

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 30/09/2021 18:56

Completely agree. This hasn't come out of nowhere for any of the Labour MPs who've stumbled over it in the press this week (even if you take Lammy's word for it that it's not a 'doorstep issue').

Sensible, brief, equality-focused answers are possible (Sonia Sodha suggested one on twitter this week), but somehow they've all decided to say something flustered, incomprehensible, and then get cross at the interviewer.

It's not a good look, which is a shame when away from all this, Starmer's big conference speech was a good one and has been reasonably well received.

Do you know if DL identifies as a man? I know DL said DL identifies as a feminist, but DL would need to reveal DL's identity as a man before you presume as such.

Didn't you get the lecture that acknowledgement of biological reality should be extinct?

TedImgoingmad · 30/09/2021 22:48

Latest from Glinner: Has David Lammy been caught in a lie?

One woman's account that, far from Lammy never encountering this issue when out canvassing, he actually ended up comforting a constituent (distressed about it) on her doorstep.

Has David Lammy been caught in a lie?

TedImgoingmad · 30/09/2021 22:53

@AlfonsoTheDinosaur

David Lammy is a perfect example of "when you find yourself in a hole, stop digging". But he really can't help himself, can he?
If David Lammy found himself in a hole, he'd probably think it was a cervix, since any old orifice will do apparently.
PeriChristmas · 01/10/2021 07:55

He says this issue doesn't come up on the doorstep. We need to be vocal.

Why message Lammy? He doesn't care and will only double-down on the GRA that he helped introduce. If you are going to e-mail anyone, make it his boss, or the media, so Lammy ends up booted off the Shadow Cabinet.
Artichokeleaves · 01/10/2021 09:23

We seem to have circled back to the pre Blair politician days of shouty men in suits telling us all off.

PeriChristmas · 01/10/2021 09:43

@senua message all of them!

My point is that they need to know how people feel.

I don't think most MPs spend time reading through the Fem boards on Mumsnet.

Pre Blair, you say? Remember Gordon Brown and his "bigoted woman" harrumphing when a voter tried to get him to listen to her concerns.

Jaysmith71 · 01/10/2021 10:00

He won't read his own emails. His woeky young researchers and interns will filter it and present him with whatever he wants to hear.
