labourlist.org/2021/09/anti-trans-members-are-dinosaurs-who-want-to-hoard-rights-says-lammy/?amp&__twitter_impression=true

Its hard to describe how angry this article made me. I am sick to the back teeth of the lies and slurs being told about women who want to protect absolutely basic rights and safeguarding.

Dinosaurs who want to 'hoard' rights. That's the contempt that the Labour party has for women in prisons who are assaulted and intimidated by the males they are now being housed with. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are traumatised women who are too scared to access refuges that males might be in. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are women athletes who reject being told to 'be kind' and hand over what they have worked their hold life for, to males who have an inbuilt biological advantage.

Women really aren't entitled to anything but insults when they try to speak up for themselves in the Labour party. Ironic really that we are called Dinosaurs when the Labour party is clearly reverting to its unionist roots when unions wanted to keep women in their place to protect male members advantage.

But most disgusting is the utterly unself-aware and hypocritical way Lammy advocates for positive discrimination for black men, a group of people he can understand face disadvantage (being one), so he wants to increase HIS social groups rights rights whilst gleefully not only removing women's basic rights but throwing insults at us for objecting to this.

That's it. Not only will I not vote for Labour again but I am going to become an active campaigner against them. They are beyond disgusting in their utter misogyny.

I might contact the local Labour party office and tell them that if they care to canvass opinion I'll be raising it on the doorstep, virtual or otherwise. They don't canvass here as too rural and too blue.

Just listened to the David Lammy interview on R4 and I'm stunned that he wasn't prepared to explain his thoughts and his statement.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/09/2021 08:40

Lammy getting all testerical

It just shows though that he absolutely knows what a woman is, the more they shout & bluster, the more we know they don’t believe men are women any more than they believe putting bunny ears on a cat makes it a rabbit

Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 08:41

Does the need for Self-ID ever come up on the doorstep?

MistandMud · 29/09/2021 08:42

Lammy might as well have been shouting ‘Women don’t matter! Ask me about literally anything else!’

PaleGreenGhost · 29/09/2021 08:44

@MistandMud

‘This never comes up on the doorstep’, hmm?

I think he’s wrong about that.

It would totally depend on who was on my doorstep whether I brought the subject up. My personal reasons for caring so much about this are traumatic and I don't always want to share. One of the Labour people accosting commuters by my local tube station at the last election was snide and almost aggressive. The local Labour Party people who (still!) keep calling me up are all lovely and respectful. Both men and women.
LizzieSiddal · 29/09/2021 08:46

He was asked who he was calling a dinosaur because one of their own advisors had told the leadership, many traditional voters felt unlistenable to.

You aren’t listening again you absolute idiots!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/09/2021 08:46

#hoardingrights on Twitter has a bit of traction behind it.

Oh sod off David Lammy!

Well he showed his arse there, didn’t he? All very jovial and lots of chuckles until he had his cage rattled on women’s rights and then he’s just another shouty male.

Whether it comes up on doorsteps rather depends on which doorsteps you are visiting. What he really means is, we ignore the issue because it’s not important to us. He completely waved it off as something minor and trivial. And he lied about his comments yesterday. He said he made reference to women’s rights won during the 20th century but he didn’t actually mention women at all did he? Lots of other groups were mentioned but not the half of the population who won the right to vote, maternity rights, working rights, abortion rights etc.

Recent days and weeks have proven to me beyond any doubt that I can’t vote for Labour again. I’ve never voted for any other party, but they don’t represent me any more.

senua · 29/09/2021 08:47

He was on Radio 5, too, with Rachel Burden. I half-heard it.
He basically ended up saying "I'm a descendant of slaves so I win in the rights-hoarding contest. Shut up, woman."

Theeyeballsinthesky · 29/09/2021 08:47

I wouldn’t bro g it up on the doorstep because I wouldn’t be able to contain my anger & life is stressful enough without rowing with ppl at my front door

I have written to my local Labour Party and got the standard “there’s no conflict/ twaw/most oppressed in the uk” line back.

catzwhiskas · 29/09/2021 08:48

Apparently you can’t both have voted against Brexit and fight for women’s rights. And if I hear that line about transpeople being the most marginalised people on the planet I will throw my ipad out of the window or go on a rampage. Lammy needs to understand it is an issue and Labour will be held to account at the next GE. Today at R4 doing their best at challenging these politicians who can’t even read the room and justify their misogynistic beliefs.

Jaysmith71 · 29/09/2021 08:48

As an Anglo-Saxon peasant, I am also the descendant of slaves.

I also live in a rural blue area and will spoil my vote unless Labour changetheir policy on this. I think this is an excellent idea Emilie and will also email my local Labour party office, perhaps we could all do that to let them know it IS an issue on our (empty) doorsteps?
catzwhiskas · 29/09/2021 08:52

I’ve lost track a bit ... did Conference actually vote for a motion supporting the introduction of self ID yesterday?

JustSpeculation · 29/09/2021 08:52

The only party that ever comes to my doorstep is the Lib Dems, because I live in a Labour stronghold so the other parties just don't bother. The LDs came a couple of weeks ago, which gave me an excellent opportunity to explain to them why I had left the party and no longer voted for them, including women's rights and gender ideology. To his credit, the bloke had the decency to be embarrassed.

highame · 29/09/2021 08:53

I love David Lammy when he's being rational and tolerant, which he is sometimes. However, I do remember how in the immediate aftermath of the Grenville disaster, he was telling reporters that hundreds of people had been throwing themselves out of windows. Since then I have always 'pinch of salted' his opinions. He is, at times, an emotional windbag who does not engage his brain at important moments

LizzieSiddal · 29/09/2021 08:54

Do we need a campaign to write to our local Labour offices to tell them how wrong Lammy is, that it is a very important issue?

Lammy comes up in Hansard in the debate on the 2004 Act.

He has always been a proponent of this ideology.

Lifeisdinky · 29/09/2021 09:00

On Radio5 Live was talking over female presenter,, denying he had said what he said (twice) and as PP said saying he had dibs on rights hoarding..
as per his appearance Radio 4 saying safe spaces for women was a non issue and why wasn't he being asked about important things like fuel supplies
Last piece before 5Live 8am news if you have a few minutes to spare

Akire · 29/09/2021 09:10

Just woke up to him on LBC here is shadow justice secretary then says such rubbish seriously who would want vote for labour when can’t tell fact from fiction.

1 in 4 trans people have attempted suicide, I thought that “fact” was long put to bed.

And although some things like ovaries are only born to woman things like a cervix can be had by people who take drug therapy! Honestly I don’t follow the debate as carefully as some of you. But if educated people are allowed get away with saying rubbish as facts we can’t believe a word they say.

KaycePollard · 29/09/2021 09:11

I wonder how Mr Lammy would react if we replaced the word "women" with the words "black men"?

KaycePollard · 29/09/2021 09:13

On Radio5 Live was talking over female presenter

He was shouting at Nick Robinson on the BBC Today programme.

Not a good look, Mr Lammy, shouting at someone challenging you on calling women standing up for their legal rights, "dinosaurs" "hoarding" rights.

The current battle against erasing the word "woman" (and other words connected with being female) shows we are not hoarding rights. On the contrary, we only have the rights we can fight for.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 29/09/2021 09:18

Recent days and weeks have proven to me beyond any doubt that I can’t vote for Labour again. I’ve never voted for any other party, but they don’t represent me any more.

This is how I feel. It would be good if Shahrar Ali won the leadership of the Green Party (result announced Friday) but I'm not holding my breath. Politically homeless now if the Greens don't get their act together, and they have a huge amount to put right.

Our Labour MP has a massive majority so my vote counts for nothing, anyway.

RainingYetAgain · 29/09/2021 09:19

@Jaysmith71

As an Anglo-Saxon peasant, I am also the descendant of slaves.
Yes, me too, I'm decended from coal miners, agricultural labourers and refugees. I think I will write to the local Party and let them know that if they every come to my very blue part of the sticks women's rights will ve discussed. I'm still rattled by him this morning, he was just ranting and shouting over Nick Robinson. Lamy is a disgrace
Akire · 29/09/2021 09:20

That’s exactly how I feel. He’s the shadow justice secretary not just some green new MP. Is there no one have word in his ear?
