labourlist.org/2021/09/anti-trans-members-are-dinosaurs-who-want-to-hoard-rights-says-lammy/?amp&__twitter_impression=true

Its hard to describe how angry this article made me. I am sick to the back teeth of the lies and slurs being told about women who want to protect absolutely basic rights and safeguarding.

Dinosaurs who want to 'hoard' rights. That's the contempt that the Labour party has for women in prisons who are assaulted and intimidated by the males they are now being housed with. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are traumatised women who are too scared to access refuges that males might be in. Dinosaurs who want to hoard rights are women athletes who reject being told to 'be kind' and hand over what they have worked their hold life for, to males who have an inbuilt biological advantage.

Women really aren't entitled to anything but insults when they try to speak up for themselves in the Labour party. Ironic really that we are called Dinosaurs when the Labour party is clearly reverting to its unionist roots when unions wanted to keep women in their place to protect male members advantage.

But most disgusting is the utterly unself-aware and hypocritical way Lammy advocates for positive discrimination for black men, a group of people he can understand face disadvantage (being one), so he wants to increase HIS social groups rights rights whilst gleefully not only removing women's basic rights but throwing insults at us for objecting to this.

That's it. Not only will I not vote for Labour again but I am going to become an active campaigner against them. They are beyond disgusting in their utter misogyny.

Does anyone have a link to the Nick Robinson interview?

LoislovesStewie · 29/09/2021 09:56

@Theeyeballsinthesky

this man who went to Harvard & Cambridge doesn’t know what a cervix is??

Fucking hell! So many men haven’t a clue have they

As I said; education does not mean intelligence or common-sense.

I think it's about 2hr 21min in.

Some snippets of today's David Lammy interview.

I post it and have tried to put as much emphasis on certain words as he did. I also truncated some of it. And I will leave post it without further comment in this particular post.

"Nick.... you could be asking me about climate change, YOU could be asking me about mental health, YOU could be asking me about education, YOU could be asking me about health. You DELIBERATELY are asking me about an issue that YOU know does not come up on the doorstep."

He believes 'the BBC is choosing to land on this subject that most people are not talking about in a fuel crisis."

He is angry that Nick has 'spend minutes on this because it keeps labour talking about identity issues , and not about the substantive policies that Kier will set out '.

Nick and he talking over the top of each other. Nick trying to explain why he is mentioning it.

'a question was put to me, and I answered it in relation to trans people in prison. That is the truth. That is my job as Shadow Justice Secretary."

They go on to finish the interview on topics that Lammy wants to discuss.

ExConstance · 29/09/2021 09:58

I was very shocked when I heard him on radio 4 this morning. I generally regard him highly but when he started talking about the trans issue as being irrelevant and not something anyone was asking about "on the doorsteps" ( no politician from any party has visited our suburban doorstep in the last 20 years) He used the old trick that Boris and the other tories use of talking about what he wanted to talk about and criticising the interviewer for not asking about climate change, fuel shortages etc. That makes it even worse in my opinion because most women are very concerned about this, and it will come back to bite him if he does not acknowledge the truth of it. That and his need for some basic anatomy education.

Ghostsintheshelf · 29/09/2021 09:58

Thanks, Gastonia

Helleofabore · 29/09/2021 09:59

There is so much to take away from the words of Lammy today.

Lammy explaining how biological men can acquire a cervix through procedures and hormones. Hmm

Ghostsintheshelf · 29/09/2021 10:05

So he rants that Robinson spends "minutes" on the trans issue when there's so much else to talk about. Perhaps if he'd just answered the question, it wouldn't have needed to be minutes.
Also weird he's basically saying it's a trivial issue in the face of these other issues. So why is it a hill Labour seems prepared to die on? You can't have it both ways.

NapoleonOzmolysis · 29/09/2021 10:08

They are covering this on Women's Hour now.

Helleofabore · 29/09/2021 10:13

The fact that Lammy made the dinosaur comment in relation to trans people in prison really cannot be unseen.

He thinks that people are dinosaurs for trying to protect women from rape and abuse in prison.

PaleGreenGhost · 29/09/2021 10:20

"Nick.... you could be asking me about climate change, YOU could be asking me about mental health, YOU could be asking me about education, YOU could be asking me about health. You DELIBERATELY are asking me about an issue that YOU know does not come up on the doorstep."

Wow David Lammy. Climate change, mental health and education are what I'd love to be talking about most too, especially as they are pertinent to my career. Which is why it is maddening that politicians and institutions have allowed this to happen to women's rights. ALL that needed to happen, years ago, was for the people in charge to refuse to lie about people changing sex. Then trans people's rights could be protected and fought for, as they should be, as trans people. And women could continue to fight for their rights too.

Also... When a politician lies about/doesn't understand biology, how are the public going to follow them on climate change?

PaleGreenGhost · 29/09/2021 10:21

Would anyone fancy joining me in sending a doorstep to David Lammy, with our concerns spelled out on it?

senua · 29/09/2021 10:24

Someone needs to ask him about his statement that "1 in 4 transpeople commit suicide". Can he provide the source for that statistic? No need to waffle about subjective things like who wins oppression Top Trumps or inventing definitions, etc; just hard facts. It's a figure that can be demonstrated to be true or false (or, feeling charitable, perhaps true somewhere else but not applicable to transpeople in this country).

Is the Labour Party making policy based on incorrect data. If they've got this wrong then what else (eg Lammy's list of what he'd prefer to talk about) have they got wrong. It doesn't help their credibility.

Helleofabore · 29/09/2021 10:27

PaleGreenGhost

Great thinking! That would be a great PR trick. A group of women delivering a doorstep and inviting David to tell them why we are dinosaurs for wanting women to be safe in prison. (and males to be safe, but out priority is for females).

We need a wheelbarrow and some spray paint.

OvaHere · 29/09/2021 10:29

Honestly I'm just cringing with second hand embarrassment now. How is it possible to be this ignorant and still be confident enough to do the rounds of TV and radio representing your party?

Akire · 29/09/2021 10:32

We are facing worst economic hit for millions low income people. Long life labour members worrying how afford drop in UC increase in NI and inflation not a word so far. Way to go to show how out of touch you are. I’ve just paid another years subs to Labour Party think may be my last.

senua · 29/09/2021 10:59

@NapoleonOzmolysis

They are covering this on Women's Hour now.
Good grief. She, Alison McGovern, was appalling. She sounded like she was contemplating everything on the spot, hadn't thought it through beforehand. McGovern wouldn't be drawn on any trans topic especially sport which is weird because its her Brief. As Barnett said to her, how can you expect people to vote for you when you haven't got a position. She had nothing to give beyond #BeKind.

@NapoleonOzmolysis

That was a cracking interview by Emma Barnett. It looks like WH have taken their earlier criticism on board and are finally tackling this subject properly. EB really held the Labour MP (whose name escapes me) to task, especially on women’s sports.
CatsOperatingInGangs · 29/09/2021 11:07

As Barnett said to her, how can you expect people to vote for you when you haven't got a position.

Exactly. The Labour Party has looked foolish and amateur this week, time and time again.

I wonder what next week had in store when the Conservatives hit conference, because the same journalists will be asking the same questions.

CriticalCondition · 29/09/2021 11:16

Someone needs to ask him about his statement that "1 in 4 transpeople commit suicide".

Exactly. Not attempt suicide, not contemplate suicide, actually commit suicide. It's a very bold claim. He talks about the need for more light than heat. Well, yes, let's see some light on this statement.

senua · 29/09/2021 11:18

It looks like WH have taken their earlier criticism on board and are finally tackling this subject properly.
I would like to believe that but I fear that it is down to individual presenters. Some (Emma Barnett, Nick Robinson, Rachel Burden) are with it, some (Evan Davis and a lot of the backroom staff) are not.
But we are seeing cracks in the wall at the BBC. About time, too.

senua · 29/09/2021 11:30

Some (Emma Barnett, Nick Robinson, Rachel Burden) are with it
Sorry, missed Justin Webb off the list.

Lammy explaining how biological men can acquire a cervix through procedures and hormones. Hmm

Nick Ferrari: Is it transphobic to say only women can have a cervix?

David Lammy: I don’t know if it’s transphobic, but it's not accurate, Nick. I mean obviously you could put …. It’s probably the case that only uh that transwomen don’t have ovaries, but a cervix, I understand, is something that you can have following various procedures and hormone treatments and all the rest of it.

Is Lammy off script here? If "only women can have a cervix” is "not accurate" because a transwoman could have one transplanted or grown through HRT (Shock) then is he saying that ... transwomen are NOT women?

(And clearly transmen are not men, or he’d have noticed that they were potentially being excluded).

I wonder why all these suicides never get mentioned in the press? Must be that they are a daily occurrence and the public would get fed up reading about it.
