Picture pretty much says it all. Horrifying that this is allowed.

Just last week an inquest concluded into the tragic death of a female MMA fighter whose family felt the fight was mismatched and this was an actual female opponent.

Allowing males to compete in the female category makes an already dangerous sport so much more dangerous.

There was a very gushing article in the Guardian about Alana, who joined the US Navy Special Forces to try to fit in as a man after growing up in a very religious household.

Apparently their opponent had said they didn't mind a fight against a transwoman. Provost said she was used to training against men 'to improve herself'.
Seemed she didn't mind it in real fight situations- wonder what she thinks now?

What I find shocking is the 'stop trans genocide' shirt that Alana was wearing. In a world of actual race- based genocides and systemic oppression of women around the world, this self-indulgent 'political' gesture is abhorrent.
I bet the Twitter woke crazies loved it...

That was such a traumatic incident. I don't know if this is a one-off incident or a signal that the 'governing body' of the sport needs to reconsider some of their criteria for matching bout opponents.

The women were matched appropriately for weight. Weight isn't necessarily a decent proxy for power but it's typically the way that it's done. What would be a useful option?

As for the other bout - it's one thing knowing that MMA tends to be flirting with the boundary of 'anything goes' but I'd no idea that choking is permissible. I'd have thought that is desperately dangerous and likely to result not only in immediate but occult harm (something that turns up in later life).

Incidentally McLaughlin is 38 and only started MMA training early this year. And she's already choking opponents.
But no, there are no physical difference between trans and natal women...

I was about to comment on this too. Maybe I need to “educate myself” 🙄, but what genocide are they referring to? I am not aware of any mass killing of trans people? It it from the same data source which cites an incredibly high suicide rate with no actual data to back it up?

Utterly fucking disgusting this is allowed and when the inevitable happens and a female fighter dies as a result of this all the TRAs and their simpering allies, which include women, will just shrug their shoulders and say "So what, we don't care" because they don't.

I think I can't say anything on this matter without being deleted, except to say that as someone who experienced dv this makes my blood run cold.

I doubt they care enough to respond but if they did they would turn it round on the woman who was choked with something along the lines of "Well, she knew what she was getting into MMA fighting is violent" or some other victim blaming bollocks, nothing and I mean nothing can ever shake their TWAW philosophy, they are totally at ease with women being collateral damage, human shields and validation tools.

Let's face it women being raped and sexually assaulted in prison by TW turns nary a hair for them, two young girls being attacked, threatened with a knife and sexually assaulted in the female toilets of a supermarket by a TW was shrugged off, death of a woman in MMA at the hands of a TW? They'd probably applaud it.

I googled the phrase: what is the trans genocide

There are some discussions but whether or not they're helpful depends on too many factors to consider.

I would understand a variation on the word genocide or democide to explore what happens when female babies are abandoned because of their sex.

However, I would need to see a discussion of what is meant specifically by trans genocide and this is hampered by:
– the size of the category of trans if one were to adopt the SW umbrella definition;
– the possibility this is an implicit specific interpretation of genocide that is outside the conventional understanding of the term.

After being around these boards for many many years not a lot shocks me. But this!
We can now buy tickets to see male people choke female people.

I've forgotten the name of the category of films that created uncertainty about whether or not somebody had genuinely been killed on camera.

That used to be quite underground and transgressive in the 80s (?).

Now, it's approaching mainstream entertainment. It feels very bread and circuses.

This is so upsetting. It must mean the end of women's MMA because it's way too dangerous to fight males. And these particular males (him and Fox) are clearly in it to hurt women.

The men of MMA need to start talking about this. I know Joe Rogan does oppose it, vocally and often.

I don't know what the answer is really. I'm just absolutely sickened by this. It's devastating to see women beaten up by males for entertainment.
