Picture pretty much says it all. Horrifying that this is allowed.

Just last week an inquest concluded into the tragic death of a female MMA fighter whose family felt the fight was mismatched and this was an actual female opponent.

Allowing males to compete in the female category makes an already dangerous sport so much more dangerous.

I don't know what the answer is really. I'm just absolutely sickened by this. It's devastating to see women beaten up by males for entertainment.

It's violence against women as theatre, live and uncensored. Violence against women has been a mainstay in films and TV programmes for donkeys years and was dismissed as it's not real this is just a natural progression the desensitising has been done it is now acceptable to watch and cheer a woman being beaten up by a man. When a woman dies or has horrific life changing injuries as a result shoulders will be shrugged, the woman will be blamed and those who promote this will not care one iota, they don't and never have cared about women.

Clymene · 11/09/2021 14:40

There's nothing new about men enjoying hurting women. They don't usually get paid for it though.

EmbarrassingAdmissions · 11/09/2021 14:49

I think the women competitors have a very complex problem. If they refuse to fight, this may well harm their reputation, they may be labelled transphobic and offered no more fights at all .

If they accept the bout - then "She consented". I know laws are different internationally, but you can't consent to this in some contexts in the UK:

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Operation_Spanner

I know sporting bodies have their own regulations but they are coming under pressure because of edge cases such as this.

@Yamayo

There was a very gushing article in the Guardian about Alana, who joined the US Navy Special Forces to try to fit in as a man after growing up in a very religious household.

Apparently their opponent had said they didn't mind a fight against a transwoman. Provost said she was used to training against men 'to improve herself'.
Seemed she didn't mind it in real fight situations- wonder what she thinks now?

What I find shocking is the 'stop trans genocide' shirt that Alana was wearing. In a world of actual race- based genocides and systemic oppression of women around the world, this self-indulgent 'political' gesture is abhorrent.
I bet the Twitter woke crazies loved it...

My brother read that - it finally convinced him that I'm right. Guardian doing good work there, not in the way they intended.
Eyesofdisarray · 11/09/2021 15:13

What is trans genocide please? I think I missed that news item.
Absolutely disgusting and unfair

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 15:28

My kid is 17 now and does kick boxing. I used to do karate and even at my very fittest and strongest I could be no match against him. He’s no gym bunny but he is a wall of muscle and incredibly powerful. He has sparred against girls in the dojo and he said they are good (more nimble and faster) but... but he lands a punch it will be more powerful coming from him as a bloke.

How can pitting these two against each other be in any way fair?

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 15:28

And yes - someone will get badly hurt (again).

timeisnotaline · 11/09/2021 15:38

The problem here is absolutely the rules. Not just letting transwomen compete as women, but I have just read a few articles on this person. Has obviously had a terrible childhood, went hungry, frequent victim of child sexual assault with parents who don’t care, joined the military (in a medical capacity?) and now has complex ptsd from both the military and their childhood. I don’t really want to target them at all, I wish they’d had more support, and that there were better rules in place to prevent them competing in mma as a woman. But on top of this, is it in any way ethical to let someone with complex ptsd that puts them in a fight or flight mode compete in a sport like mma? Is this common?

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 15:39

Someone who has had military training and with ptsd.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 11/09/2021 15:43

Fallon Fox broke a woman's skull

what the hell has to happen?

BraveBananaBadge · 11/09/2021 16:00

'Stop trans genocide'?! Well, there's the next Twitter hashtag for brainwashing idiots and shutting down dissent.

Everything about that is really quite frightening.

BernardBlackMissesLangCleg · 11/09/2021 16:06

from the description of this person's life, they probably do feel persecuted, and with good reason.

it's not because they identify as a woman though

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 16:15

Eek a mouse - just saw the before photo (when the were 30 odd). My goodness. No.

PaleGreenGhost · 11/09/2021 16:16

So why, if they are self aware enough to know that growing up in a presumably misogynist and homophobic environment influenced their life decisions, do they champion the cause of trans children? Why wouldn't they want to free those children from homophobia and misogyny so they can be as non conforming as they wish, without having to change their bodies?

Flapjak · 11/09/2021 16:19

There is no trans genocide, because transwomen are male. How many women are murdered each year because they are female compared to trans people ?

andyoldlabour · 11/09/2021 16:26

This has absolutely sickened me, the fact that this is seen as either sport or entertainment is disgusting.

OhHolyJesus · 11/09/2021 17:17

what the hell has to happen?

A woman will be paralysed/be brain dead and as a PP said, then it will be considered her own fault, in manner of the rough sex defence.

Or

A woman will die and it will be her own fault in manner of rough sex defence.

Artichokeleaves · 11/09/2021 17:23

As Fae said on radio - 'domestic violence done wrong' and 'eggshell skulls' hand waving away male people harming and killing females.

They're only female as far as this agenda is concerned; just props in the main character's show.

And this is why no male people under any circumstances should ever be allowed in any female spaces, services or positions.

I immediately thought of the 'rough sex defence' upon seeing that picture.

It's hard for the brain not to join dots between two 'acceptable' situations in which males can choke females, even kill them and still mount an 'it was justified' or 'she asked for it' defence.

Thankfully there is finally some recognition that one of those scenarios is never justifiable. It's taken years and a lot of dead women though.

How long will this one take?

RedDogsBeg · 11/09/2021 18:09

That's it in a nutshell - exactly what the value of women is in this ideology.

EsmaCannonball · 11/09/2021 18:54

Some people are arguing that Provost consented to this, so what's the problem? Well, what happens to her if she doesn't consent? She loses her place, she loses her money, she's labelled a terf, a bigot, a witch, people send her death threats, people threaten to boycott her appearances, she loses sponsorship, most of the media cheer this on, she's cancelled. That's what happens. Consent is being used like choice in this context, and whenever choice is mentioned we have to look at the options: be pummelled by a male or lose your career.

PronounssheRa · 11/09/2021 19:00

Male strangling female. Progressive isn't it. FFS.

Anyone who supports this is in favour of male violence against women.

rosy71 · 11/09/2021 19:06

What a shocking article I wish I hadn't seen it. How can that be allowed?

Sophoclesthefox · 11/09/2021 19:19

Welcome to the brave new world, where progress is represented by thinking up creative ways that males who want to hit women can be accommodated Sad

Decent people in possession of male physiques, honed by decades of testosterone don’t hit women. They’re aware that male fists are capable of punching many times harder than female fists, that female bones are a lot less strong than male ones, and that nothing about anybody’s gender identity, or gender reassignment medication or surgery, alters any of that physical reality.

If you cheer this on, there’s something wrong with you. There really is.

KittenKong · 11/09/2021 19:52

The close U.K. photo of their faces is terrifying. Blood is dribbling from her mouth and she looks terrified. The throttler looks like they are really going for it. Ex special services? Dear god, who thought this was ok? Yes she agreed to step into the ring but what would happen if she said no thanks?
