The apartment is nice, in a lovely building with an art deco entrance and is gated. I even have a bay window with a window seat and a nice little kitchen. As long as I walk to my new home via the northern blocks, and don't try and cut down through the really bad part, I will be fine. The block it is on is fine.
...And I should have my book out in December...and am working on setting up a new culture and review magazine with the publisher. We are just trying to get some arts funding/investors. It is all going better than I could hope for. The publisher is amazing.

This is all so exciting. Cake

OMG, how wonderful to hear from you Detroit, can I delurk for a celebratory toast to you please?! I've read all your threads and often thought of you. Congratulations on your new apartment, and does your new user name imply you're getting a four legged friend? That would be lovely! I'm sure I won't be the only person here who would love to buy a copy of your book when it's out. Truly delighted to see this update from you. Cheers!

I can have a small dog in the apartment if I give them a deposit. If I have him registered as an emotional support dog they can't say no....free adoptions currently at the shelter. Next week I will go and look at a couple of older dogs at the shelter. There is one who is part aussie shepherd part heeler, who looks like a darling. I hope I can share my new space with doggy who could do with a bit of love.

Im going to have to get my stuff over alone, but that is ok. No help moving available on Monday. It is only a few blocks.
I wish I could just move in right now! I have to go out and get an inflatable mattress to tide me over.
It is all very exciting. I am struggling to come to terms with getting furniture. It kinda feels unsafe to presume I will be able to stay inside. I know, it sounds weird.
Im still overjoyed about the stained glass window.
No elevator, no laundry, but there is a laundromat close by...

Tofudelights, I am so touched that you would want to buy my book! I obviously don't want to push it on here, that would be obnoxious of me. But am happy to send you details if you like.
Wanna see a photo of the doggy I am hoping to get to take home? ...heh heh...I said HOME! I have a home!

Not only will we buy your book, we will also need to see pics of the dog when it arrives.

It must all be a little overwhelming.

No, she's come. She is warm and cosy, You will be grateful for her in the winter.

Detroit, it sounds as if things are coming together for you - I hope the new place really works for you. Looking forward to the book!

Thank you, Grumpy. She is a Faithful Creature and does not deserve to be abandoned.
Detroit, we haven't 'met' but that doesn't stop me being delighted at your news and very happy that you are thinking of giving a home and love to a dog in need of same. Cheers, me dear. Be well and thrive.

Yikes Detroit. I'm so glad that you are getting your own place at last. It's perfectly understandable that having to wait even one more day is too much at this stage. No friends or family to help move the move to Monday? (Sounds like a song.)

Re camels
The Italian magazine Espresso has a "preventative satire" page which basically lampoons some current trend. Many moons ago the "trend" satirized was how many Italians abandon pets by the side of the motorway so they can go on holiday for a month or 2 months in summer. (I think Italian behaviour in this regard has now improved.) So the satire page offered advice on how to abandon various pets, e.g. a snake, a panda (not advisable: apparently they are all microchipped and know the WWF phone number off by heart), a boar, etc.... and a camel. The solution was to gradually substitute the original camel with a smaller and smaller camel until it was small enough to leave by the side of the motorway.

It did not, of course, tell you what to do with the discarded camels...

Anyway, I am quite sure no-one will do that with our friend. If she's giving people the hump [>groan

Well if we must have the ruddy camel can we please have a rule that no-one gives her pickled eggs. For obvious reasons.

Have to go and do tedious things - back before closing for a glass of something celebratory.

PS no music? How can it be a party if there's no music?

Can camels walk up stairs? It would not be the strangest thing you would see in this city not by a long shot....might give a scare to some passing lsd-freaks....In fact it would be hilarious.
I saw a guy in an actual in foil hat just now, running down the street shouting, bless his heart...
OK..so I have a blow up mattress!
Anyone who wants a pm with the photo of the doggy Im hoping to be able to go and pick up, let me know...he is rather handsome!
So what are you all drinking! I hate to be the sober one to spoil the party!

...and no help on Monday but I only have two suitcases and a few bags, and my guitar. It won't take more than a few trips. I can walk it up there, Im not going far!

So glad you can get a dog now, Detroit - you could have done with the emotional support and probably bodily warmth over these last months (or is it years... too long anyhow) when it's been impossible.

Years now. Ive been in this shelter for 10 months more or less! I have my eye on a very sweet older dog, not a puppy. He is spotty and cute as a button. He doesn't like other dogs much. I think Ill go see him next week. I would love to share that space with a dog who could do with some human care and love. There are so many in the shelters. Adoption is free right now. I even let myself have a little look at a smart leash and a nice bowl. I really hope I can bring him home. I will feel safer as well if the aussie can come with me - he is not too big, under 40 pounds, but big enough for people to think twice about approaching me.

Oh, pm me the dog.

I leave mine at home with DH when I come to the Bluestocking.

And neither they, nor Camilla (#nopickledeggs) will be left by the side of a motorway, ever.

Detroit, I'm on alcohol free craft beer. Join me. DH (a craft beer aficionado) thought it was good.
Cheers!

DetroitNeedsADog · 27/08/2021 22:56

What did you think of the dog, Grumps?
...I generally can't drink alcohol free beer, I have celiac disease and it isn't gluten free...but am quite happy here with my medical marijuana and my sparkling water.

Thighs? That's an unexpected question!

Mine's a very large glass of dry white please and a packet of salt and vinegar crisps. Pushing the boat out given that we are celebrating. And can I see the dog please? Does he/she have a name?

Report
ErrolTheDragon · 27/08/2021 23:37

The Thighs used to be sort of rowdy but cheerful next door neighbours, but I think they've decamped elsewhere (for the benefit of newer customers).
