Thanks, Weevils..I am so nervous. Just got to get through tonight in the shelter, get the keys tomorrow, and shift my stuff a few blocks away. I am not sure Im coping very well with the pressure. Ill be ok once I am in there!

You mentioned the Valley, are you in California, Apparalaxia? That all sounds like quite good fun! I haven't lived in a home of my own for many years, camped out for a long time, and spent 10 months in this shelter in a very bad part of town. The good side of it is that I really can just walk things over. Your cars sound cute. I miss my old truck. I am very urban, so walking is fine, if sometimes stressful. I might try and see if I can get a taxi to take my suitcases.
I am sitting here totally panicked that the powers that be wont give me the keys, or wont let me in, or that something will go wrong! My own front door. It is crazy! Still kinda miss my bears and bird though...

I'm in Los Angeles, Detroit, in the Basin (West LA). A good location here too as we can walk to the shops, and DH gets the bus into work, so we actually use the car very little.

Don't worry. It'll be fine. If you can afford a taxi or a Lyft, I'd say it's probably a good idea. Then you'll be done after one trip, all your stuff around you, and you can start to relax, have a (non-alcoholic) beer to celebrate.

But if not, take it easy, so as to make sure you don't lose anything en route or leave anything behind (keys, phone, head...). Good luck!

I know that part of LA quite well. I think it might take two trips, but it will be fine. I am only going a few (uphill steep) blocks. But hey the walk back is downhill.
Your dh is tough! The bus in Los Angeles can be a little interesting!

Weevils, some DC are just massively difficult and while you (by which I also mean me) can look back and spot things that could have been done differently the first time around, at the time you can't always see the wood for the trees.

The shelter is crazy right now. So glad I should be going. Until the keys are in my hand, I'm going to be nervous. I don't quite trust it being ok.
..I think I'll play "summers end" by John prine...The song means a lot to me, and just feels right...then visions of Johanna or just like tom thumbs blues for old times sake. Just like Tom thumbs blues was the first thing I played on my first night in a campground. Visions of J. Has the pleasure of singing "mona Lisa musta had the highway blues you can tell by the way she smiled"...
I've even put new strings on for the occasion!

Tofu delights - love the name! I went vegan a few months ago, I feel so much better for it.

Thank you Detroit, but I have to confess that I'm not actually a vegan - I do love tofu though and eat vegan most of the time. I wanted a user name that was a mix of bland and slightly whimsical!

Anyway, here's hoping that things go well for you today, and it won't be long till you get your keys and move out of the shelter. Maybe only a few more hours to go!! No tears today, it might be a tough old day but by the end of it you will be in your own place with your own things around you! And then you can start planning for your smiley wee furry four-legged friend to join you! Onwards and upwards Detroit, you can do this

Arg! Im packed up, but it might take a few more trips than I thought. I overestimated my ability to carry stuff, and underestimated how much i had to carry! Just my notebooks for work writing take up a trash bag!

Do you have a rucksack you can use for transporting things? It's so hard to make any practical suggestions that might help you, sorry. You might need one taxi trip for bigger or heavier items. You might be better off keeping a clear head today, but that's just a suggestion of course. Take a deep breath, calm down as you've got hours left to find everything before you go. Is there anyone around that you trust to help?

I'm a bit confused by sushi socks! It would be great to see pics but only if you can make sure that they are really definitely 100% not identifying in any way at all. Your safety comes first. Very excited for you, and you will do this by hook or by crook. You have come through so much already, just a few more hours to get this next step done. Breathe!! You are nearly there Detroit
