A Green Party leader to 'welcome politically homeless women'

GreenGretel · 18/08/2021 11:20

A candidate in the Green Party election contest wants to welcome back women who have been left politically homeless by the assault on sex-based rights.

I'd urge any Green-minded people to join or re-join the party by 27th Aug in order to vote for Shahrar Ali. You can join (if only temporarily) for as little as £13 here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Shahrar Ali stands a good chance of winning, having previously been deputy leader and gaining 24% of first-preference votes in 2020. He is speaking up unequivocally for women's sex-based rights. You can read his full statement on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/ShahrarAliGreenParty/posts/190051301345352.

He is also in the Guardian here: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/17/green-transgender-rights-row-leadership-shahrar-ali-sian-berry

If Shahrar wins, he will be the first leader of a British political party willing to stand up to gender identity ideology.

If you haven't had the email with your voting code and it isn't in Junk, then when I enquired, I got an email asking me to fill in this form to get my code

actionnetwork.org/forms/get-your-voting-code?clear_id=true

And that worked pretty quickly and I got sent my code to enable me to vote.

Carriemac · 06/09/2021 17:14

Thanks - have filled in form as it's definitely not in junk.

RedRobin20 · 18/09/2021 07:49

Thank you @GreenGretel for organising us. I have cast my votes now and will keep my fingers crossed that Ali wins and that the Green Party does extremely well with it.

ludothedog · 18/09/2021 08:40

My vote is cast. Fingers crossed.

Carriemac · 18/09/2021 09:12

Even more important after that Lib Dem's leader's comments onR4 yesterday

GreenieFingers · 18/09/2021 16:05

Just a reminder to vote as soon as possible.

For anyone who hasn't been able to vote, it is worth checking that you are using the correct email address to search for the voting link, i.e. the one you registered with when joining the Green Party. Some people have a number of email addresses and this is a common reason for not being able to find your voting access.

As an extra, Kathryn Bristow did NOT win the Regional Council seat for their region today and by a deliciously impressive margin!

Oh lovely. Maybe there is hope for the Greens yet.

A better local candidate? Or Kathryn managing to put off voters all by Kathrynself?

GreenGretel · 22/09/2021 08:15

Voting closes 10pm on Thursday 23rd September. I voted:

  1. Shahrar Ali
  2. Tina Rothery and Martin Hemingway
  3. Ashley Gunstock
  4. RON

All of the other candidate teams have put lots of effort into pushing gender self-ID; Amelia Womack is behind disciplinary actions against women who question gender identity ideology. Carla Denyer was an organiser of the 'take-over' of Green Party Women by gender ideologists last year; GPW has since stopped all the good work it was doing (online workshops, book group, weekly yoga for key workers etc) and has only rarely communicated with its members. They only had one aim - and that was to delegitimise dissent over self-ID.

I've voted for Shahrar Ali. Does anyone know if he has a good chance of winning ?

TooWicked · 22/09/2021 08:19

Shahrar Ali has posted this morning.

I bloody hope he wins!

Nachthex · 22/09/2021 08:29

Shahrar really does understand it. SO hoping he becomes GP leader.

Jaysmith71 · 22/09/2021 08:41

Still dancing round the issue. How can one person be said to be 'falsely' self-ID-ing? You either have self-ID or you have gatekeepers and a process.

It is, to coin a phrase, binary.

TheABC · 22/09/2021 10:46

Voted.

Puffincrossing · 24/09/2021 10:44

Jay I think that why he * around falsely because violent men are always described as falsely claiming to be trans. If you read further he makes it clear that it actually people falsely claiming to be trans. Shahrar definitely gets it.

When are results announced?

Manderleyagain · 24/09/2021 12:03

How long will it take for them to announce the result?

334bu · 24/09/2021 12:15

Not quite sure about the " falsely" claiming to be trans point. What is clear is that being trans doesn't make you a potential danger to women, being born male does. Women are at no more danger from transmen than other females. However, both men, male born non binary people and transwomen all present the same potential danger to women because they are all male.

Graham Linehan reporting people not being allowed to vote, being expelled for unknown reasons. Anyone have that happen to them?

AngeloMysterioso · 24/09/2021 13:33

Has anyone seen the Glinner email update about this election?

Gingernaut · 24/09/2021 13:36

The result will be announced on 1st October.

Tesla73 · 24/09/2021 13:36

Just had the email from Glinner - looks very dodgy and shows the same kind of tactics Labour use

grahamlinehan.substack.com/p/the-fix-is-in-342?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email&utm_source=copy

Do those who have been expelled, suspended, banned from voting have anywhere to turn to get this out there?

I bet GB News would cover it

Fariha31 · 24/09/2021 14:01

It looks like they are using T**F blocker to stop legitimate new members from voting.
Is this legal? Surely people can sue in this situation?

JustcameoutGC · 24/09/2021 14:44

Using TERF blocker? That is out rageous!

Gingernaut · 24/09/2021 15:03

Just as well I have two emails.......

Wandawide · 24/09/2021 15:27

How long do you think it will take before the local/regional chapters change?
It will mean a bigger swing away from them when we find he can't change anything. However I admire the optimism.

NecessaryScene · 24/09/2021 15:31

Not sure where Fariha31 is getting a reference to "TERF blocker" from.

I've not seen any similar stories from anyone else attempting to join the Greens - I suspect this is a somewhat isolated case where Stuart Campbell managed to attract attention due to being quite well-known in political circles.

Still seems like something dodgy happened there to him, but not seen evidence suggesting it's been widespread to try to do a mass GC block.
