A Green Party leader to 'welcome politically homeless women'

A candidate in the Green Party election contest wants to welcome back women who have been left politically homeless by the assault on sex-based rights.

I'd urge any Green-minded people to join or re-join the party by 27th Aug in order to vote for Shahrar Ali. You can join (if only temporarily) for as little as £13 here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Shahrar Ali stands a good chance of winning, having previously been deputy leader and gaining 24% of first-preference votes in 2020. He is speaking up unequivocally for women's sex-based rights. You can read his full statement on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/ShahrarAliGreenParty/posts/190051301345352.

He is also in the Guardian here: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/17/green-transgender-rights-row-leadership-shahrar-ali-sian-berry

If Shahrar wins, he will be the first leader of a British political party willing to stand up to gender identity ideology.

@vivariumvivariumsvivaria

Actually, him getting in would help the Welsh women.

Who are in even more dire straits than us Scots.

'Mon Shahrar!

Why do you think Wales is worse off than Scotland? The GRA is devolved for Scotland, but not (yet) for Wales, so the Welsh Government doesn't yet have the power to bring in self-ID, even though they clearly want to.
Areyouseriousrightnow · 18/08/2021 21:01

This is excellent news and I will be joining. Finally!!

Areyouseriousrightnow · 18/08/2021 21:12

Will give me great pleasure to have a party to leave Labour for, they don’t care about women.

SparklingLime · 18/08/2021 21:26

Happy to rejoin now there’s some hope!

I mean it's a tough choice...

Voting for a man who will stand up for women and girls or a non binary person who uses a woman for 'experiments' in a shock tactic campaign again animal torture.

To be fair, Tamsin is standing as half of one team, but that didn't work out so well last time.

This is another duo Tamsin is half of.

Have just seen the 'TERF Floaters' video - that is absolutely vile. Imagine speaking about people like that?

And the woman on the right wants to run for leadership???

ArabellaScott · 18/08/2021 22:09

Lots of very enthusiastic nodding in that first video, Jesus. The less said about the second, the better.

ArabellaScott · 18/08/2021 22:10

It's dehumanisation, isn't it? I can imagine Katie Hopkins coming out with something like that.

SparklingLime · 18/08/2021 23:24

All signed up 🤞

StarryGazeyEyes · 19/08/2021 00:06

Soooo pleased to see this. I've only recently left Labour and am more than happy to accept his invitation.

JustWaking · 19/08/2021 07:41

I'm very definitely politically homeless, and think the environment is the most critical issue we face. I am also - at first look - cheering for a potential leader who actually supports women's protections and rights, and seems to actually value women.

But my god, that campaign showing a woman naked and staged as if tortured. I can't vote for a party where leaders think that's OK. If they don't understand why, then they need to think about whether using a man would have elicited all the same emotions. And what that means for women: past, present and future.

SparklingLime · 19/08/2021 09:14

But the whole point is to vote in a decent leader, @JustWaking. If the other lot win, I’ll leave. If lots of us do, that’ll send them a clear message. Direct debits cancelled.

It's atrocious. It's Tamsin's partner who says it but Tamsin is clearly in agreement and like the way it's put.

Considering the party had a major horrific safeguarding issue, which "terfs" revealed and challenged, and were told to shut up, this is worryingly stupid as well as abusive.

WarriorN · 19/08/2021 09:30

@JustWaking there are so many green women, and men, fighting this idiocy and appalling behaviour. So many.

The greens are going to be an important party as more 18 yr olds become eligible to vote, and will likely vote green.

According to twitter, Belstaffie has joined the party to vote for him along with many others.

Janeaustensquill · 19/08/2021 09:54

Have joined - would be marvellous to get a change of direction here

YouSetTheTone · 19/08/2021 10:02

I’ve just joined to vote for Shahrar Ali. It’s an opportunity for women to demonstrate that this stance is politically advantageous for candidates and politicians. It pained me to do so because of how awful the Greens have been but I’ll cancel the future payments if necessary.

terfinginthevoid · 19/08/2021 10:13

I’ve joined. Would love to be politically active in a left leaning political party that prioritises the environment and knows what a woman is. If enough of us join there is a chance to create that.

OldTurtleNewShell · 19/08/2021 10:23

I've just joined. I'm unbelievably thrilled at the possibility of having a party with a leader I can actually vote for.
I suspect he'll have an uphill battle even if elected with the usual overprivileged children throwing tantrums his way, but he's had the balls to openly support women when others have been too scared.

ArabellaScott · 19/08/2021 10:31

Indeed. They'd do well to remember that it was the nasty t*rfs who were trying to warn them about the Challenors.

NotImpossible · 19/08/2021 10:35

Oh, this is interesting. I'd love to vote for a party that prioritizes environmental issues and was very sad when the Greens went batshit crazy over gender and seemingly forgot about their party name/aims.

JulesJules · 19/08/2021 12:30

Well DH and I are just about to join. What do they class as low waged though? It doesn't say anywhere? Don't want to claim that unfairly.

Signalbox · 19/08/2021 14:21

Knowing the Greens, so long as you self-identify as being low waged that'll be fine.

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/08/2021 14:31

I suppose they draw the line at self identifying about being a Green without signing up :)

SenselessUbiquity · 19/08/2021 14:37

I'll join the Greens to vote for him. but I can't publicise this because I can't be "out" as GC for work reasons. Is there a way to contribute to a fund which is campaigning for his leadership? as I can't personally "campaign" in my networks.

I'm sad that men are the only people who can get away with this stance (to the extent that they can). I'd love to support a GC woman. I'd love to do so openly as well. Maybe one day in the future.
