A Green Party leader to 'welcome politically homeless women'

A candidate in the Green Party election contest wants to welcome back women who have been left politically homeless by the assault on sex-based rights.

I'd urge any Green-minded people to join or re-join the party by 27th Aug in order to vote for Shahrar Ali. You can join (if only temporarily) for as little as £13 here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Shahrar Ali stands a good chance of winning, having previously been deputy leader and gaining 24% of first-preference votes in 2020. He is speaking up unequivocally for women's sex-based rights. You can read his full statement on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/ShahrarAliGreenParty/posts/190051301345352.

He is also in the Guardian here: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/17/green-transgender-rights-row-leadership-shahrar-ali-sian-berry

If Shahrar wins, he will be the first leader of a British political party willing to stand up to gender identity ideology.

And now the Glinner substack article has reached Ali

I've just had an email from the GP saying that the results of the leadership elections are going to be announced Friday between 10 and 11am.
Let's hope Ali wins and at least one leftwing party will have started turning away from this madness.

Olderbadger1 · 27/09/2021 18:36

Oh please let him win. I'm in a hole in the garden with my hoarded rights, my cervix, a spare pair of socks and an almost total lack of hope.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 27/09/2021 18:40

@Fariha31

It looks like they are using T**F blocker to stop legitimate new members from voting. Is this legal? Surely people can sue in this situation?
They can choose who they want to admit to the party. What they shouldn't be able to do is to go through votes and kick out people imo.
Jaysmith71 · 27/09/2021 18:44

It is all starting to look rather Kremliny.

HotelduLacluster · 27/09/2021 18:49

Olderbadger1 thank you, thank you. I have just guffawed so loudly (whilst drinking a cup of tea) that I have shot hot liquid out of my nose, the cat has flown out of the cat flap, and I am left chuckling and grinning whilst mopping my clothes, table and tablet.

After the absolute shit show of the Labour Party over the last two days, the party that I had supported since I was 16 (which is a bloody long time) it was an absolute delight to have a laugh out loud moment!

I am also hoping for success in the Green Party leadership election, although I’m not putting any money on it coming good for us.

GreenieFingers · 28/09/2021 19:25

There is definitely no TerfBlocker involved in the elections or membership. Other GC women have joined and voted without any problems at all.

I've spoken to a few members who thought they hadn't been given their votes but eventually found that they had in fact received the email although missed the deadline.

Carriemac · 29/09/2021 12:53

I'm not sure I agree . I had to request my voting code which should have been sent automatically and definitely wasn't . As a new member I felt I was being screened out.

GreenieFingers · 29/09/2021 13:18

There seem to be various things that happened regarding voting.
Some people forgot that they had used a different email to register their application and eventually found their voting code when they checked.
Others hadn't noticed their voting code email within the regular correspondence from the Green Party.
In other cases, neither of the above options appear to have applied and these cases must have happened too. The Officers who were dealing with this problem issued replacement links / codes. However as many people did not raise their concerns until nearing the deadline, there could have been some who either did not realise that they did have the code already or the numbers may have been too high to process all cases before the deadline. On this last aspect I have no concrete information, but understand that this could have applied.
I have personal experience of this too but not in respect of the Leadership election, as I hadn't realised that I'd registered under a different email account I have which shows my name and not a bit of hocus pocus.

Carriemac were you able to vote or did the Officers involved fail to send you a replacement vote in time?

Carriemac · 29/09/2021 14:07

I used an email address I check every day . I check the junk mail too. I was not sent a voting code until I requested it, then chased two days later . It came into my email box then.

GreenieFingers · 29/09/2021 14:28

Thanks Carriemac, I know that this did happen to quite a few members and was hoping that you were in fact able to vote.

It would be an interesting question to ask how many recent applicants were not able to vote, with query cases still outstanding. However I don't believe that there was any intention to deprive members of their right to vote. Cheers!

Cwenthryth · 30/09/2021 14:31

If any green members on this thread are in London, there are shenanigans afoot in a regional election as well that you can vote on and help promote a GC candidate within the party

With reports of new members being given the run around and now whats happened in the London election for Womans officer it looks very much like some are trying to intentionaly deprive members of their right to vote.
GreenieFingers · 01/10/2021 00:09

London is a law unto itself unfortunately. We need everyone's help to deal with the problems there.

BBC report Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay as new co-leaders.

RottenRowGal · 01/10/2021 11:02

Oh fucking hell. How disappointing and yet unsurprising.

So women still have no decent voting options.

WarriorN · 01/10/2021 11:03

Arse indeed.

However, I'm committed to supporting green women and girls and won't be flouncing.

OldTurtleNewShell · 01/10/2021 11:06

It's a bloody disappointment. I was hoping for a landslide that would send a signal to the other parties. I guess we're not there yet.

I will ask though for anyone who joined for this to please stay. There are more votes coming up and more we can to do turn the Greens around.

Manderleyagain · 01/10/2021 11:07

So one fifth of the vote. I got the impression that the womack team were more ott on wokeness (for want of a better word) than the winning pair. Disappointing but not that surprising I suppose.

prudencepuffin · 01/10/2021 11:08

Not good but will stick around for a month or so to see what happens next and where the focus is.

AnotherLass · 01/10/2021 11:13

I think this is hugely better than Tamsin winning - Tamsin has gone all out on gender in the most grotesque way, the winners have not.

Cattenberg · 01/10/2021 11:21

I’m confused. I thought only one candidate/pair was eliminated per round, but it appears that three were eliminated in the first round.

I’m glad at least that Womack and Omond haven’t won, but I can’t support Denver and Ramsay. I can’t see any point in staying a Green Party member - if I ever speak up for what I think is right, I’ll probably be expelled.

NecessaryScene · 01/10/2021 11:24

I’m confused. I thought only one candidate/pair was eliminated per round, but it appears that three were eliminated in the first round.

Given the percentages, you can eliminate all 3 in one go as a shortcut.

Even if every Gunstock and Rothery/Hemingway voter had Ali as second choice, he'd still only have 23% and then still be up for elimination in the third round.
