A Green Party leader to 'welcome politically homeless women'

GreenGretel · 18/08/2021 11:20

A candidate in the Green Party election contest wants to welcome back women who have been left politically homeless by the assault on sex-based rights.

I'd urge any Green-minded people to join or re-join the party by 27th Aug in order to vote for Shahrar Ali. You can join (if only temporarily) for as little as £13 here: join.greenparty.org.uk/

Shahrar Ali stands a good chance of winning, having previously been deputy leader and gaining 24% of first-preference votes in 2020. He is speaking up unequivocally for women's sex-based rights. You can read his full statement on Facebook here: www.facebook.com/ShahrarAliGreenParty/posts/190051301345352.

He is also in the Guardian here: www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/17/green-transgender-rights-row-leadership-shahrar-ali-sian-berry

If Shahrar wins, he will be the first leader of a British political party willing to stand up to gender identity ideology.

larval headed, what on earth could that mean?

Level headed of course :)

Well, Ides, that was a useful post. I wasn't sure what to think of the winners of the election (though the fact that they have their pronouns on their Twitter bios is a red flag), but reading your post and seeing you're happy with the election result - well, I'm gonna try and keep an open mind just in case, but I'm not optimistic.

Oh yea, that was a bit of a disturbing image Grin
Heruka · 01/10/2021 22:23

Grim post Ides, not one that makes you come across as ‘sharp’, I’d suggest. What makes you think those of us who have concerns about the impact of gender identity ideology, have never met, seen or been harassed by a trans woman? We don’t hate transwomen. Although I do not rate the one who harassed me.

DismantledKing · 01/10/2021 22:27

@Ides

Excellent that Sharar Ali didn't win a leadership role. He's really a stuffed up conservative, and that was widely understood. As a Green myself, I'm glad of the two who did.

We Greens have generally been very, very sharp as to the real victims of world... non-human species, the climate, the Earth itself ... and it's now clearly recognised amongst us that transwomen are absymally oppressed and that transphobics don't have any place amongst we Greens.

However, I do wish those women who are unhappy at feeling they're not at the very top of the Heirarchy of the Oppressed in the Green Party better luck at having their supreme oppression (of white, middle class women who've never been hassled by a transwoman, ever - and indeed have never met one or even seen one) recognised in other parties. :)

Not living up to the stereotype of Greens being smug arseholes at all there. No wonder nobody votes for them.
GreenandCommon · 01/10/2021 22:34

What about transmen? Don't even merit a mention. But Ides is not sexist, oh no, perish the thought.

Ides · 01/10/2021 22:34

The Greens don't have a reputation of being smug arseholes, of course, DismantledKing ... though the standard sort GC Mumsnet homophobe type very much does. By all means stay radical-feminist, per the weird definition of that term here, and stay Conservative. :)

It must be just you then.
Ihaventgottimeforthis · 01/10/2021 22:44

To be honest the greens have achieved fuck all in terms of environmental policy change and they can't even muster local candidates in my area so even if I thought they weren't full to the rafters with tools like Ides I wouldn't be able to vote for them anyway.
They really are an irrelevance now, just when we need a truly green party the most.

1Endeavour2 · 01/10/2021 22:46

Sorry, can't do. It's going to take many years to get over kathryn bristow. How could one man take away women's democratic rights so easily? The green party has been in on this right up to its neck.

Speaks volumes doesn't it?

Well, you don't exactly hate them here on Mumsnet, to be fair. Perhaps 'hate' is not the right word. It's just that very few here show any concern for them, and their needs and their rights, whatsoever. Thus any point - any point, whatsoever - that focuses on the miserable lives transwomen so often lead is instantly swivelled round, coldly, clinically, to a focus on how the rights of transwomen impinge on ... what's the term, now? Natal women. Transwomen, on Mumsnet, it's come to seem to me, are pretty much like stains in the toilet: they're to be treated - coolly and clinically - with intellectual and emotional Domestos. Forget them being in women's toilets and changing rooms - they shouldn't 'be' - exist - at all. There's a palpable sense of that here. It's a frigid, ugly, utterly cruel attitude, to me.

I really wish Mumsnetters would leave their transphobic attitudes behind. Ye Gods, even the Americans have managed that ... they'd pretty much done so even before the Trump era.

Time to move on. This transphobic ideology is so dead, now. No political party - no political grouping - is ever going to take it up. That must be clear by now, surely? No point in banging your heads against a brick wall, hmm? :)

Oh no! You failed! How sad!
MrsPsmalls · 02/10/2021 03:14

Gosh, so looking like the one party who hasn't bought into the twaw agenda are going to win the next election by a country mile. Happy days hey Ines and Drably?! I guess we get the politicians we deserve.

Still all transwomen. Do you ever care about anyone with a cervix? Or are all women whether trans or not just too privileged (when not being raped and murdered I suppose) to be worth a thought? You do you.
Abhannmor · 02/10/2021 11:18

Yes , thanks for that Ides. I will certainly never cast a vote for them again in Ireland - where they are even more misogynistic if possible.

What a bunch of smug nonsense. Women exist, and are still voters, so we will always prioritise our needs and wants.

ArtemesiaK · 02/10/2021 11:28

"Ye Gods"!?
I can't begin to imagine what sort of person (man) would write that :D

Well, Ides only ever contributes to Trans related threads; they never comment on any other topics at all. I think we can draw our own conclusions there.

I’m a bisexual, working class socialist.

You, however, appear to be a bit of a misogynist and to have no clue what you’re on about

RottenRowGal · 02/10/2021 13:58

What an interesting choice of words, @Ides.

You lot just can't help giving yourselves away, can you?

Heruka · 02/10/2021 14:38

Yes, RottenRow, the word frigid certainly struck me.

Cattenberg · 02/10/2021 15:04

Ides, I first joined the Green Party quite a few years ago, and delivered leaflets for our local candidate before the 2015 General Election.

I don’t hate trans people. I’m glad gender reassignment is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act. However, I’m also glad that sex is also a protected characteristic and and fiercely resistant to the first erasing the second.

There are situations where protected characteristics clash with one another, and it’s naive or disingenuous to pretend otherwise. I don’t have all the answers, but the Green Party’s solutions are untenable.
I left due to the mishandling of the Challenor scandal, and when the party started referring to women as “non-men”. The sexism and safeguarding failures reveal a party that is at best, deeply confused.

I rejoined to vote for Shahrar Ali, but would also have been happy with Martin Hemingway and Tina Rotherham. It is sad that the Green Party has become a single issue party, and that issue is not the environment.

Cattenberg · 02/10/2021 15:06

*Tina Rothery. Stupid autocorrect.
