There is no UK Green Party, it's GP England and Wales then separate parties in Scotland and NI.

mollythemeerkat · 18/08/2021 15:30

Highame - i think its worth a punt and as you say, may not work. Am joining just to vote but will probably pull out if the TRAs get the upper hand again.

Waitwhat23 · 18/08/2021 15:49

And we have the delightful Patrick Harvie up here as leader. Who absolutely despises women and is openly fighting to abolish sex based rights. And is about to go into a coaltion with the SNP.

I'll never vote Green, ever again.

WarriorN · 18/08/2021 17:15

@oscarandelliesdad

Saw a Julie Bindel tweet and just joined up this afternoon
Nooo, Julie didn't join too did she??
WarriorN · 18/08/2021 17:16

I know of another woman locally who has joined today because of this.

LOLeater · 18/08/2021 19:11

Joined.

I am politically homeless and if a Party defends both the rights of women AND the environment, I’m on board.

You can join the England and Wales Greens even if based in Scotland.
Faybian · 20/08/2021 11:44

Please Note: We have until the 27th of August to join the Green Party if we want to join the Green Party and be able to vote for @ShahrarAli . I have just joined with the intention of voting for him but I would be interested to hear if anyone has any negative opinions about him they would like to share before I cast my vote. I am not transphobic and I feel we need solutions that work for everybody but I am fed up with the silencing of genuine debate around women's rights and safety. join.greenparty.org.uk/

TheMarzipanDildo · 21/08/2021 16:32

I’ve joined, it’s very easy (and for me, only £6 a year!)

FindTheTruth · 22/08/2021 05:49

Tamsin Omond: “I guess we’ve been feeling challenged by a load of…how did you describe it?”

wife Melissa MacDonald: “Oh! Uhmmmm…in the social media toilet, there’s been a lot of terf floaters that haven’t flushed away.”

She's made a non apology. The sort that identifies as an apology but isn't.

Oh and is delighted about endorsement from Peter Tatchell... Hmm

Re the Omond explanation. Context is everything. Sounds like their TW friend got abuse. Where this goes wrong is her wife's use of the word 'TERF'.

Cattenberg · 22/08/2021 09:53

I’ve just rejoined. I left due to the Challenor scandal and I also couldn’t be a member of a party that referred to women as “non-men”.

The Greens used to be accused of being a single issue party, only caring about the environment. It turns out they are a single issue party, but nowadays their single issue is identity politics. We’re in a climate emergency and they need to be focused on it. I will be voting for Shahrar Ali.

ArabellaScott · 22/08/2021 11:02

What a very strange apology.

'Never meant to be taken literally' - eh? Who has suggested a metaphor (terfs/women as 'turds') is to be taken literally?

The 'context' isn't relevant. At all.

Tamsin's brain seems to work in odd directions. It doesn't even make sense, let alone explain or make up for calling women a dehumanising and degrading term.

Itreallytiedtheroomtogether · 22/08/2021 15:26

I've joined. I've thought hard about it for the last few days as I do like my local Labour MP and have always voted for her, but I can no longer vote Labour. I voted Green prior to my current MP standing so it would be good to see the party return to their roots and become a real voice on climate issues. Shahrar Ali's statement is fantastic and Bristow is gone - I'm hopeful they can become a party I can vote for.

Green party steps into unknown with latest leadership election
www.theguardian.com/politics/2021/aug/23/green-party-steps-into-unknown-with-latest-leadership-election

The internal consensus is that barring a significant shock, the race is between Carla Denyer and Adrian Ramsay, and Amelia Womack and Tamsin Omond

OP posts:
ArabellaScott · 23/08/2021 17:45

Significant shock?

Notagain20 · 23/08/2021 19:13

I'm in the mood for a significant shock

ArabellaScott · 23/08/2021 20:00

Me, too, Notagain.

Has Bristow left the party? I hadn't picked that up. What happened, or have I misunderstood?

Waitwhat23 · 23/08/2021 23:08

From what I understand Bristow was dropped from as a Green Party candidate for the UK’s 2021 local government elections because they lied about their sex on their Census return, declared this openly on social media (and I believe encouraged others to do the same) and there were complaints that such behaviour brought the party into disrepute.

Manderleyagain · 24/08/2021 21:15

Ah thanks. I remember that happening but I didn't know the party had taken some action in response. Thanks.

I've googled it and there's a v one sided article in open democracy about how she is suing the party for discrimination.
