Some really wanky things going Glinners way on twitter again. Just giving a heads up in case anyone has the energy to present another side of the argument.

I love Bernard Black. He wants a tower of soup and he has a wine lolly and a sign saying "Don't". Also hates nouns being used as adjectives. As in
"Don't you dare use the word "party" as a verb in this shop."

The lines "What have you said to her? She thinks I'm the Renaissance!" are wonderful.

Graham is great, I am happy to be a paid subscriber as the content is worth it and he can't afford to be giving it away. Although he does. It's shameful how he's been treated.

Fr Ted is an important part of life in a Viacarge!
We mostly use - priest' black socks; kicking Bsp Brennan up the arse; lingerie; go on, go on; small-far away....
Actually, what am I doing? We all quote all of it, all the time!

AnyOldPrion · 21/07/2021 21:13

Loved the episode in Count Arthur Strong where he was taken for a member of the mob.

I was waiting for the episode where he and his cronies discovered that you could get into women’s spaces, just by saying you were one, but by then it would have been blasphemy of the highest order.

My elder son introduced me to Black Books and I watched IT Crowd with my younger son. We watched Father Ted years ago as a family and watch it periodically. We also do “small, far away” and “careful now, down with this sort of thing” on a semi-regular basis.

I so much wish I had been in Glasgow. They looked as if they were having a whale of a time.

Abhannmor · 22/07/2021 13:07

G is looking way better than he was about 2 years ago. It must all take its toll though. If there's any justice there will be a Ted or IT movie ....

PatsArrow · 22/07/2021 16:02

My favourite Count Arthur Strong was "The Day the Clocks Went Back" where he gets mistaken for a flying instructor.

Or "The Soup Over". Hilarious.

The IT Crowd and Ted are go-to 'comfort' watches for me and my teens. My DS even has an 'Internet' sweatshirt (black box with red button image).

Gotta love Glinner. I really hope his life settles and he finds more happiness after the Gender Wars.

Appalonia · 22/07/2021 21:14

I was in Glasgow and Glinner was created with rapturous applause when he turned up! Think he had a whale of a time and his interview with the Scottish Witches was glorious. I get the feeling, meeting up with REAL people who are like minded did him the world of good, like it did all of us...

And, he shook my hand! Such a decent, genuinely lovely guy.

Appalonia · 22/07/2021 21:15
  • treated, not created!
SirSamuelVimes · 22/07/2021 22:55

Ooh Appalonia, I'm more than a bit jealous!

Rhannion · 22/07/2021 23:25

Everyone wanted to shake his hand and he took time to speak to anyone who approached him.

GreyhoundG1rl · 22/07/2021 23:26

So am I. The man's an absolute legend.
AlfonsoTheMango · 23/07/2021 07:09

That's lovely. Great man.

ShortBacknSides · 23/07/2021 07:43

Oh @Appalonia thanks for reporting back. I watched his "Mess We'reIn" with the Scottish Witches - a grand group of women and brava, brava, brava to you if any of you post here. Thank you.

I worry about the mental well-being of Mr Linehan - he is doing it tough and I hope he has good friends who support & counsel him. Your description of him rings true - he seems in a way to have a humility about him which seems quite genuine. But I still worry about his well-being.

oxalisRed · 23/07/2021 10:34

The thing is, why aren't there more men like @Glinner?

Yes, Glinner is an absolute star for all the awareness he's raised around this issue. His intelligence, understanding, compassion, his conscience (I believe) means that he has taken his stand with us women.

Why don't more men do this? Is Glinner the only brave man in the public sphere?

MarchXX · 23/07/2021 10:48

Totally agree, @ShortBacknSides and @Appalonia. I was there too, at Glasgow Green (hey, I probably stood near you, Appalonia!) It was a very hot day but I hardly noticed, because I recognised that I was part of an incredibly special moment in time.

For so long I have been isolated (by covid) and felt isolated for my view that "woman:adult human female" in a country that now seems to pander to the myth that men can self-identfy as whatever (sex) they want and invade women's privacy at will. For the first time I didn't feel alone, it was really special.

I think that Graham probably felt the same when, as he arrived and was spotted, everyone stopped, turned and cheered loudly as one. Smile

He is highly respected because he is one of the people who has put his head above the parapet and made himself vulnerable. We have seen what happens to women and men who speak the truth and don't back down and it is ugly.

Time will prove that these brave people were on the right side of history but in the meantime let us support them any way we can to ease their distress at being targetted.

fluffedup · 23/07/2021 10:57

Glinner is brave and stands up for the truth - that's hot.

TheSlayer · 23/07/2021 12:21

He's really shown his feminist credentials. It's easy to say you support women, but actions speak louder than words and he's one of few people to support all women, the vulnerable included; not just the privileged vocal and visual minority.

Researched the lovely girls episode last night. Classic.

TheSlayer · 23/07/2021 12:23

Rewatched not researched.

I definitely saw myself in the radfem character.

PamDenick · 27/07/2021 20:57

Does Glinner know about the California prison horror?
