Some really wanky things going Glinners way on twitter again. Just giving a heads up in case anyone has the energy to present another side of the argument.

WE SAID WE WOULDN’T TALK ABOUT CANADA

weirdly apt

LastSummerHere · 20/07/2021 21:14

@BatmansBat

I just don’t get when men are trying to take other men down based on looks.

Glinner is intelligent, funny, mentally stable and cares deeply about women. And he looks like a normal man. What’s not to like?

I hope Glinner is laughing it off...their self esteem might be wrapped up in how they look, but his isn't, I would bet anything!

Flippanty · 20/07/2021 21:17

Re-watching Black Books since it’s been on Netflix, I was absolutely obsessed as a teenager. It has aged brilliantly like a lot of Glinner’s comedy seems to! The parts of Father Ted that you wouldn’t really get away with nowadays, instead of leaving a bad taste in your mouth seem even funnier. I don’t know how that’s happened when so much comedy is hard to watch even ten years later.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 20/07/2021 21:24

"My lovely hooooors
Where are you going with your fetlocks blowing in the......wind
I want to shower you in sugar lumps & take you to the horse doctor" 😂😂😂

Small/far away
Don't press the button
& so much more (actually thinking about & realising our kids are going to think it's weird that all our sayings are in Ted when they get to watch it 😳)

I also LOVE black books & the spoons bit has me every single time. ♥️ Fran

PickAChew · 20/07/2021 21:27

Ds1 loved IT crowd. I think Richard Ayoade is the draw for him as much as anything, though.

I've been known to say motherflipping when I'm trying not to swear at something. And we often break the Internet.

Abhannmor · 20/07/2021 21:31

' Then there's UHT milk. But there's not much demand for that- because it's shite.' Ted nods sagely , in agreement.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 20/07/2021 21:46

Every single time for 20 years my colleague or I have been about to hand a bag of receipts over to our accountant we have said "Well whores will have their trinkets" to each other a la Bernard. You'd think it would have got old by now but no Grin

MadamBatty · 20/07/2021 21:46

Horse dentist 😁

Rhannion · 20/07/2021 21:48

Graham spoke very well today, he is a lovely man who felt appreciated by all of us there in Glasgow so the shitty wee haters can bugger off.

PamDenick · 20/07/2021 21:50

If any TRAs are reading this and would like to quote any life-affirming joy they’ve shared with the nation, go ahead...

BunnyBerries · 20/07/2021 21:51

Keep 'er lit, Glinner.

You're from NI/North of Ireland!! Me too!

Black Books gets quoted all the time in our house, always has me rolling about laughing no matter how many times we watch it. Manny and the Little Book of Calm, Dave Syndrome, when Fran goes to work in the office and does the presentation, the tax returns one, and all the times Bernard is so rude to his customers. Absolute genius. Thank you Glinner, and thank you so much for all you are doing to stand up for women and girls. The pathetic wee bullies on Twitter wouldn't bother attacking you if they weren't so hacked off at all the sunlight you are shining on their misogynistic bullshit.

Mollyollydolly · 20/07/2021 22:05

I went to the BAFTAs one year and all the IT Crowd were there and won loads of awards. We can a coach to the meal afterwards at some. swanky hotel and Glinner was on the coach. I wish I know then what I know now I'd have shook his hand. The man's a legend and it's cost him probably the most of anyone. Got nothing but respect for the big lummox.

Belleager · 20/07/2021 22:07

Colm : It's not the Greeks, it's the Chinese he's after

Father Ted : I'm not after the Chinese! I'm not a racist!

Mrs. Carberry : I don't care as long as I can have a go at the Greeks! They invented gayness

SirSamuelVimes · 20/07/2021 22:12

God I love Black Books.

"Millwall, Millwall, you're all really dreadful, and your girlfriends are unfulfilled and alienated... "

The day after the dinner party when Bernard & Fran are trying to work out what terrible thing Bernard has done... He's done Belly Savalas...
"You didn't do Cobumbo did you?" "No, I didn't have a cigar."

Grin

@LastSummerHere all the best are Wink

EastWestWhosBest · 20/07/2021 22:14

Way back when in the early days of Twitter Glinner helped save a computer museum.
It was in a town near me and was going to have to close as they couldn’t afford the rent. They had supplied the background props to IT Crowd so I contacted Glinner via Twitter to ask if he could help. We put together a Twitter campaign and the museum now has a permanent home.

NoYOUbekind · 20/07/2021 22:35

Slightly off topic but thanks for the heads up that Black Books is on Netflix. Absolute joy,

MrsJuliaGulia · 20/07/2021 23:09

Why is Glinner banned from MN? I mean, he is a champion of women and women’s rights and this website was fundamentally set up for women… 🤷‍♀️

TheSlayer · 20/07/2021 23:17

Is Glinner banned from Mumsnet? I hadn't heard that.
It's very easy to earn three strikes. I am fairly moderate in my views, but have managed to earn one for suggesting children and sex aren't really an appropriate coupling.
Which I thought was as, well d'uh as could be.

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 20/07/2021 23:30

I had no idea until recently that Glinner was in on the TV Count Arthur shows. I was very pleased to find that out.

Mollyollydolly · 20/07/2021 23:35

He's not banned from Mumsnet. He posts and reads the boards fairly regularly. Unless I've missed something.

567fedup · 20/07/2021 23:47

Small, far away - an explanation we've often needed.

oxalisRed · 20/07/2021 23:59

That's a dog toy Dougal.

Love Glinner & his strength and support in all of this mess.
