Some really wanky things going Glinners way on twitter again. Just giving a heads up in case anyone has the energy to present another side of the argument.

“How did that gobshite get on the television?!” in a Father Jack voice is the standard response to any politician on TV in our house!

Belleager · 20/07/2021 19:05

My Lovely Horse
Anything with Fr Damo the delinquent (recently reincarnated as Jack Grealish)
Fr Ted - Not A Racist
The biggest Lingerie department in Ireland
The Mainland - Fr Jack at the AA meeting, Mrs Doyle in jail, Graham Norton in the Darkest Caves in Ireland
The last episode which is like the episode you'd have written if you knew your star actor was going to die before it was broadcast - completely unsentimental but a tearjerker

And that's without trying to think - what a legacy.

I'm not sure what their point is, he looks quite smart.

DialSquare · 20/07/2021 19:13

Those women were in the nip!

😂😂 I'm stealing that!!

For Damo....he was class! Loved Dougal going all googly eyed at him.🤣

Deliriumoftheendless · 20/07/2021 19:14

“It’s like a big tide of jam coming towards us, but jam made out of old women.“

123344user · 20/07/2021 19:17

"That would be. An. Ecumenical matter!" gets used a lot in this house...

MrsSlocombesPussy · 20/07/2021 19:20

When Father Jack sobers up "Don't tell me I'm still on that fecking island"

DialSquare · 20/07/2021 19:21

There are so many. One that tickled me but doesn't get mentioned as much is the Christmas episode where they are in the front room on Christmas morning and Ted says "what's it all about, Dougal" in a reflective way and Dougal looks up from reading his football annual and says "not much Ted, it's just about football and stuff"

TheSlayer · 20/07/2021 19:27

Thought this was apt...

Oh the bit where.. hold on I'll find it

BatmansBat · 20/07/2021 19:29

I just don’t get when men are trying to take other men down based on looks.

Glinner is intelligent, funny, mentally stable and cares deeply about women. And he looks like a normal man. What’s not to like?

NiceGerbil · 20/07/2021 19:31

Can't remember now...

So scratch that I can't even describe it well!

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 19:34

We use the 'this one is small, that one is far away...' quite a lot in our house. The reveal of Ted kicking Bishop Brennan's arse is a work of genius.

There are so many bits in Black Books in particular which can reduce me to belly laughing so intense that I can't get any sound out- just pointing and wheezing! The one where the temperature can't go over a certain number is brilliant, particularly when Manny is persuaded into a sleeping bag, with a hot water bottle.

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 19:35

And attacking what Glinner looks like? WTF.

NiceGerbil · 20/07/2021 19:37

It's very odd.

It's a standard go to when men slag off women but to do it to a man is very very very unusual.

I suppose that is because loads of men seem to think that telling a woman he thinks she's rough looking or he wouldn't fuck her is the most deeply awful insult ever (irrespective of what they look like. Or whether they have just in fact tried to chat you up and you've said no)

With men insulting men it's pretty much always about other stuff.

Straight men that is.

I think gay men insult other gay men in a different way.

Anyway. Bit random there sorry!

NiceGerbil · 20/07/2021 19:38

I can't get the hang of black books which really annoys me!

AlfonsoTheMango · 20/07/2021 19:43

Glinner is a nice-looking middle-aged man who is clever and funny. That makes him attractive and sexy in my book.

TRAs are misogynists. The only people attractive to misogynists are other misogynists.

boatyardblues · 20/07/2021 19:48

The one with all the rabbits makes me laugh. Plus Graham Norton in the caravan was perfectly cast as the most annoying person you could imagine sharing a tiny space with. A Song For Europe still makes me laugh my head off all these years later.

Saucery · 20/07/2021 19:50

Don’t forget his part in bringing Count Arthur Strong to TV.

A few TRAs targeting his looks on the Ilfracombe is nothing, the sad little losers.

risefromyourgrave · 20/07/2021 19:51

I’m exactly the same, which annoys me because I love Father Ted and The IT Crowd. I think it’s because Bernard is so unlikeable….

I didn't love it like Fr Ted, but in this heatwave I think fondly of Bernard and his wine lolly.

I love Black Books because it's like all the things you really wanted to say to annoying customers but couldn't without getting sacked.

Other funny bits I can think of -

The priests lost in the lingerie department - Father Ted
The long walk to the smoking shed - IT Crowd
When Roy looks at Jen's computer and realises how many viruses it has - IT Crowd
Fran's room getting smaller - Black Books
Teaching the gangster how to read - Black Books
The football app - IT Crowd
The sacred wine - Black Books

Deliriumoftheendless · 20/07/2021 19:58

I wonder how beautiful you have to be to be allowed an opinion on things?

Deliriumoftheendless · 20/07/2021 19:59

“I’m sorry, Doctor Clever Person- you may hold numerous PhDs in this subject but you just aren’t very pretty!”

What’s that about “entitled”?
