Some really wanky things going Glinners way on twitter again. Just giving a heads up in case anyone has the energy to present another side of the argument.

Don't forget Alan Partridge. The episode where Alan, Glinner and other bloke end up in the weird home of Alan's stalker/biggest fan

PamDenick · 20/07/2021 20:04

‘The money was just RESTING in my account’....
Hahahahahahahaha

PamDenick · 20/07/2021 20:05

And Kick Bishop Brennan up the arse!!!

Hahahahahahahaha

MarchXX · 20/07/2021 20:07

How did I not know that Glinner (Graham Linehan) wrote Father Ted? Our family adore Father Ted series and its one of those programmes you can watch again and again, anticipating your favourite lines "far away" Grin.

Shock Met this fab gentleman today at Glasgow Green, how wonderful to meet the people I'd only read about on social media plus the women from all walks of life united #WomenWontWheesht!

The man us a comedy genius. We had a family holiday in Ireland a few years ago and my favourite photos are of the DDS in front of the Craggy Island Parochial House,Inishere ( Father Ted intro) and the DDS holding up a small plastic toy cow,in front of a real cow, doing the 'this is small, this is far away' sketch.
The IT crowd,my all time favourite is the GAY musical staff outing. I don't do musicals and it reminds me of when I worked in an office and was talked into seeing Rent with the other staff. I'm still not sure what it was about even now.

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 20:14

Oh, the dinner party one in IT Crowd - try to look normal and Peter File.

Melroses · 20/07/2021 20:23

@NiceGerbil

I can't get the hang of black books which really annoys me!
I don't know why, but I love it, including Bernard being a drunken arse.

I love the episode where Fran is having piano lessons, but hasn't practiced, so Manni is playing the piano for her by lying suspended under the piano and banging the strings with a knife. It is way beyond ridiculous so I think you have to have drunk as much wine as Bernard to appreciate it.

aliasundercover · 20/07/2021 20:28

Bernard is unlikeable

But Fran Katzenjammer is my ideal woman.

Babysharkdoodoodood · 20/07/2021 20:32

@RoyalCorgi Sorry I had to nick your post, edit and reply to their tweet.

OnlyTheLangOfTheTitberg · 20/07/2021 20:36

“Ahhh, g’wan g’wan g’wan g’wan g’wan g’wan G’WAN.”

“Are you sure Father? There’s cocaine in it.”

“Drink! Feck! Arse!”

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 20/07/2021 20:40

I love black books

‘Which one of you bitches wants to dance’

Best line ever

RufustheBadgeringReindeer · 20/07/2021 20:41

Oooo the holiday one!!!!!!

PamDenick · 20/07/2021 20:43

When Mrs Doyle was gifted a tea making machine and her bottom lip began to wobble!!!!
Hahahahahahaha!

ShowOfHands · 20/07/2021 20:45

I adore Black Books and quote it all the time.

Glinner is supremely talented.

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 20:47

@rufusthebadgeringreindeer I love that line! It's the way he says it as well - it's just too funny!

FlyPassed · 20/07/2021 20:47

Waiting for DH to finish the washing up so we can get back to Ted (for the millionth time). Currently watching The Passion of St Tibulus.

Glinner is a bona fide comedy genius. How one person could be so talanted as to create, co-create, co-write or whatever classics like Black Books, IT Crowd, Father Ted, Motherland and Count Arthur Strong is truly amazing.

That he is such a staunch women's rights advocate too is just the cherry on a rather marvelous cake

ValancyRedfern · 20/07/2021 20:50

My favourite scene is when the depressed priest is all cheered up then Radiohead 'Creep' comes on the bus radio and he falls apart again. (this may seem an odd choice, but being a depressive type myself, this really resonated with me and made me laugh).

'That would be an ecumenical matter' is my standard response to any question I'm wary of answering.

He’s just so chuffed to have found a way not to do the tax return 😀

We bought the little book of calm on the back of this and used to quote it in the annoying voice when ds1 was angry…happy days

MadamBatty · 20/07/2021 20:55

Feck & the other F word, the bad one you know the one that I mean

Ride me sideways that was another one

dyslek · 20/07/2021 20:59

I really liked Count Arthur Strange. It was an odd show but I found it rewarding, gentle comedy. Great escapism.

JacquelineCarlyle · 20/07/2021 20:59

Glinner is phenomenal - love him & his comedy genius!

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 20:59

'When you're feeling under pressure, do something different. Roll up your sleeves, or eat an orange.'

Waitwhat23 · 20/07/2021 21:00

And of course 'now, picture the ocean... AGH! AAGH! Oh, oh, a calm ocean!' 😆

Manderleyagain · 20/07/2021 21:01

Is Pope Ted the musical still going ahead? Before covid they were working on it, but I'm not sure how far it had got. I would love to see that. I hope it does happen.

SeeYaBeYa · 20/07/2021 21:07

Omg I just love father ted. I love the way Glinner goes right to the edge of situations to make the joke. Like the shit fair with the cat on the turntable and the picnic bench getting hoisted up. Obviously these things never happened but you know exactly the kind of events he's referencing. It's so so clever.

And I think it says something that today's teenagers think it's funny. Humour doesn't always age well and these are bloody old programmes. But the appeal is universal.
