Trans lesbian?

Timeforatincture · 26/04/2021 18:39

My first ever post on this board. Long time reader, and have found it highly educational. Thank you everyone.

There is a pullout in today's Guardian about influential lesbians. Cameos and longer pieces. One of the longer pieces is an interview with a "trans lesbian."

AIBUin thinking that's a bit odd?

So straight women would find themselves attracted to a trans woman? Who for all intents and purposely, aside from biologically, is a woman?

For the love of God. Please describe how a person can be a woman, if it's not biological.

Educate yourself! Gender and sex are not the same thing. Gender is on a spectrum. Why do you think you know more than thousands of well educated, well regarded scientists, psychologists, sociologists etc. ?

---

So you can't answer that question. Of course. No one can. Because the word woman is a sex based definition. Not gender. 😊

sunavendi · 19/06/2021 20:56

"Transphobe" is not name calling.

WhiteFeministWarMachine · 19/06/2021 20:57

Women are adult human females.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 19/06/2021 20:57

And do you have any idea how offensive you are to the lesbian community by suggesting that a male bodied person presenting as female is somehow sexually a woman and that lesbians should be happy to have sex with them even though the very definition of lesbian is same sex attracted?

I strongly suspect you do know how offensive it is though, you just don’t care

Datun · 19/06/2021 20:57

I am a lesbian for goodness sake. Just not a bigoted one.

Oh dear lord, sun. This means you could be a male in relationship with another male, a male in a relationship with a female, a female in a relationship with a male, or a female in a relationship with a female.

Why do you think anyone should take the slightest bit of notice of you are identifying yourself as a lesbian, when it's meaningless to you. And therefore everyone else.

Sunavendi — okay, please explain why a white person identifying as a black person is a terrible thing to do but why a straight man identifying as a lesbian and expecting lesbians to accept him as one of their own is not a terrible thing.

Please, take your time and talk me clearly and rationally through what's different about those two situations.

Not once have I ever said anything like lesbian women should be happy to have sex with "them" not once, because I don't believe that.

Everyone has preferences, of course.

Again, no. It's not my job as a black person to educate you.
Clarice99 · 19/06/2021 21:11

What a reach. I didn't even read that you were autistic. I am sorry I missed that but you and I both know I was not being discriminatory.

No reach.

You claim you weren't discriminatory on the grounds of disability and that I should know this. Stop assuming what I know and don't know. You cannot read my mind.

You've repeatedly been discriminatory on the grounds of sex so why not disability?

Disability. Sex. Protected characteristics.

Gender. A social construct.

Oh, and you STILL haven't answered the question 'intents and purposes, biology aside, of a woman'.

You are being utterly pedantic and ridiculous.

Yes I have answered that!

Always a point that is never answered.

Can I - as a white person identify as black and expect acceptance?

NO.

And I wish uneducated white people would stop asking that absolutely ridiculous, offensive question.

Don't hold your breath for an answer.

I asked questions ages ago and just got labelled a bigot and transphobe instead.

And I'm still waiting for a coherent answer ....................

sunavendi · 19/06/2021 21:15

Clarice that was not why I called you a bigot or a transphobe.

sunavendi · 19/06/2021 21:15

Oh I misread, yes that ridiculous question does contribute to the essence of bigotry you have about yoy.

100% this

Why why why is it so wrong to culturally appropriate another race, but not women/lesbians? Both are as ridiculous and offensive as each other.

speakout · 19/06/2021 21:17

*NO.

And I wish uneducated white people would stop asking that absolutely ridiculous, offensive question*

But I am still looking for an answer. Why is the question offensive? Why ridiculous?

sunavendi · 19/06/2021 21:17

It is, of course, offensive to imitate a lesbian or appropriate. But I don't believe trans women being attracted women and labelling themselves as such is an issue.

Clarice99 · 19/06/2021 21:17

There you go again @sunavendi

Defensive name calling and discriminatory on the grounds of disability:

You are being utterly pedantic and ridiculous.

Yes I have answered that!

You have NOT answered the question. Point me to your coherent, thorough explanation. In fact, just quote it in your next defensive reply.

Have I not made it clear you're not getting that answer from me? You as a Shute person should be finding that out for yourself, not asking black people to educate you.
sunavendi · 19/06/2021 21:20

*white not shute

Trevsadick · 19/06/2021 21:20

@sunavendi why do you think its acceptable to change the definition of the word lesbian and then verbally abuse people who will not agree with your new definition.

What makes you want to verbally abuse other women, try and change legal definitions and protect status' in defence of biological males?

YellowFish12 · 19/06/2021 21:20

Well lesbians here ARE educating YOU that they find lesbian-appropriation by men to be offensive. But you don’t want to hear them.

When have I verbally abused anyone?
