LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

@OhHolyJesus

I'm reluctant to derail my own post but is the now deleted post a hate crime? Death threats or the wish of us as group to die is hateful isn't it?

I perceive it as a hate crime so therefore it is, isn't it?

If anyone has a screenshot, easy to report online.

Anyone with an ounce of common sense would say it is BUT there appears to be no such thing as a hate crime or even a non crime hate incident when death threats are aimed at women.
RabbitOfCaerbannog · 20/04/2021 14:29

The bat signal "transphobic hate group" seems to have gone out on Twatter. No evidence attached of course.

Tibtom · 20/04/2021 14:30

But this relates specifically to LGBA ie sexuality. And there is a hate crime for that

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2021 14:30

Very good point, Tibtom. Like, campaigning to amend the Equality Act to effectively remove single-sex provision, say?

Mollyollydolly · 20/04/2021 14:32

Apparently it's all our fault. The hysteria is off the scale.

GreyhoundG1rl · 20/04/2021 14:34

Death threats and abuse from Mumsnetters... Dear oh dear

OhHolyJesus · 20/04/2021 14:35

Genuinely confused as to what our tactics are there Liam

(did I miss a hive mind meeting were we agreed our tactics and objectives?
How rude of you all to exclude me...)

Anyway, I wouldn't say it was quiet, in the LGB media I'd say they have been quite busy...

I didn't see the deleted post Titbom but from the vague references and OhHolyJesus's post I took it that at least some of the threats in it were directed at users of this Board.

I agree LGBA should start reporting all threats against them that could come under the current Hate Crime Legislation and even the non crime hate incident stuff, the Police would certainly be kept busy, PC Gul would have to a great deal of thought checking.

Once again: projection and DARVO.
Helleofabore · 20/04/2021 14:39

Really.... So, did Liam post here?

What is the connect here???

Yikes. Beware the murderous Mums. Do these activists have any idea how ridiculous they seem? 🙄

Blame the mums, blame the mums!

I've never heard of him and I've also never seen or heard of a group of Mumsnetters making death threats on Twitter or anywhere else for that matter.

OhHolyJesus · 20/04/2021 14:42

I think it's spelt 'roll back'...

What the heck is he on about? And what the heck does that have to do with the Charity Commission?

Shall we complain about Stonewall or Mermaids via the Charity Commission about Evarish's lovely post? Is that how things work now?

MondayYogurt · 20/04/2021 14:43

@ArabellaScott

In all seriousness, I hope that everyone involved in LGB Alliance are safe and secure.

It's unimaginably brave to stand up against this tide of death threats, slander, and wild accusations, and it's appalling that in 2021 this is still happening. The fact that there is such an outpouring of vitriol, abuse and venom demonstrates quite clearly the need for this organisation, sadly.

I notice nobody has any evidence, whatsoever, of the things they accuse the LGBA of. If you don't have evidence, and find you are so infuriated by the very existence of a charity set up to work for LGB people, then maybe time to question who is doing the 'hate', here?

The only 'evidence' I have seen people link to is this thread: twitter.com/gchomophobia/status/1330813550156189696?s=21

(which incidentally is run by an account seeming to form part of a network designed to link GC views with racism, antisemitism etc - very curious who is running this smear campaign but that is besides the point)

There's still no evidence is there. There are some debatable comments about the value of LGBT societies in schools and some lies about far right funding. All a bit desperate really. It's going to be tough now there will be annual clarity on the funding situation and it's proven to be nothing of the sort.

PronounssheRa · 20/04/2021 14:51

Liam, another man who doesn't think lesbians should be allowed to advocate for themselves.

Liam has a history of thinking women should not be allowed boundaries, in 2018 he complained that he wasn't allowed in the breast screening area of a hospital.

Hmm. What a very (trying to avoid deletion) sad, strange person.

Always wanting to encroach aren't they. Should've been told no more often.

Yes, or providing training that misrepresents the Equality Act and undermines women's rights.

SirVixofVixHall · 20/04/2021 14:59

@Datun

It's Astonishing how supporting LGB people really has become something to target.

In bloody 2021.

Openly, with violent threats and vitriol.

It's quite unbelievable to someone like me who saw the fight for LGB legitimacy first hand.

This.

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

The kimono clad fox killer speaks...

The consequence of this Panglossian stance on the activities of a hate group is that your taxes will now be used to subsidise transphobia.

This, I am afraid, is what regulatory capture looks like. The institutions of the state, which are supposed to serve a public purpose, come through party appointments to serve the political purposes of the government. Don't ask when it's happening: it's happening now.

I love how genderists conveniently forget that their whole ideology is less than 20 years old and only gained traction about 5 years ago.

They take every accusation made against them and turn it back in an illogical way.

These are all the arguements levelled against them.
