LGB Alliance is now a registered charity

It took over a year...

"LGBA applied to register as a charity in March 2020. Its purposes are to promote equality and diversity and human rights.
The test of charity status is set out in law. A charity is an organisation with exclusively charitable purposes for the public benefit, that is subject to the jurisdiction of the High Court of England and Wales. If it meets these legal tests, it will be entered on the charity register.
It is not the Commission’s role to make value judgements about the aims or ideas put forward by any organisation. Instead, its role is to decide whether an organisation’s purposes fall within the legal definition of charity.
The Commission received a number of objections to the registration of LGBA as a charity. It carefully considered these as part of making its decision. In handling this application, the Commission has had regard to the Public Sector Equality Duty.
Registered charities fall under the Commission’s regulation, and their trustees must continuously meet the legal duties and responsibilities set down under charity law. A charity can promote the rights of one or more specific groups, but may not do so whilst demeaning or denigrating the rights of others, including on social media – and the Commission will consider taking regulatory action where that occurs.
The full decision, explaining the grounds for registering the organisation and the objections that were considered, can be found on GOV.UKK_"

Wonderful, wonderful news!

So pleased for LGBA and all the LGB people they represent.

And so pleased for all of us, for this win - a win for justice and reason against the stranglehold of bigotry and irrationality that extends so far these days.

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 20/04/2021 15:16

@FannyCann

Ooh. First time ever I get a chance to screen grab before the inevitable deletion. I'm always the one trailing behind whining "who, what, what did they say, what did I miss?" No FOMO for me today! Wink
Its like we were separated at birth
TalkingtoLangClegintheDark · 20/04/2021 15:20

Absolute DARVO indeed, AdHominem.

Words cannot convey how much I detest that man. How dangerous I think he is to women, LGB people, GNC children. To a free, democratic society.

He embodies everything he supposedly campaigns against. Privilege and bigotry incarnate.

Shudder.

WOW. Over on Twatter there is a proliferation of bearded he/hims demonstrating their belief that the world truly does revolve around them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/04/2021 15:27

MNHQ has confirmed that Evarish has been banned.

Oh dear. What a pity. Never mind.

Fantastic news for the LGBA.

LastRoloIsMine · 20/04/2021 15:32

I think its fantastic news. I am very much enjoying the Twitter meltdown.

Erkrie · 20/04/2021 15:32

Oh I am so so pleased that there's a group that will support the LGB, on behalf of my L daughter. Big congratulations.

SapphosRock · 20/04/2021 15:34

I'm pleased about this. I want to share a link to some lesbian groups but know I'll just get flamed and jumped on by TRAs so just going to be quietly pleased.

Leafstamp · 20/04/2021 15:45

The petition to "Stop LGB Gaining Charity Status" is utterly ridiculous!

I give the following reasons, but no doubt there are more:

  1. It has already gained Charity Status so doesn't even make sense (anymore - not sure when it was started).
  1. It says 'LGB Alliance believe in the concept of ‘adult human female’ which disregards trans people'. What about the concept of 'adult human male'? What about all the other 'concepts' that are in the dictionary and allow English speaking people to meaningfully converse?
  1. It also says 'The reason I started this petition is because the trans community belongs with LGBT.'
Erm, well, the reason LGB Alliance was created is that for some, the T doesn't belong with LGB. And that's because LBG are sexual orientations and T isn't.

None of this is rocket science.

I would love a study to compare the average IQ of TRAs called GC feminists.

OhHolyJesus · 20/04/2021 15:45

All this talk of the charity commission is making me think about the purpose of charities and how they are assessed for meeting their commitments.

For example, a charity that has in its mission statement that it works by:

"Promoting equality and human rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people"

Would need to evidence that wouldn't they, or they wouldn't be meeting their objectives and delivering on their remit.

So for example they would need to know what homosexual was, as a sexual orientation, and would the 9 government grants that go a long way to provide their £8m+ income be refunded if they do not meet the terms of that grant?

Just bought myself an LBG Alliance TShirt in celebration!!

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 20/04/2021 15:58

This is wonderful news (hissy fits are a bonus Grin)
Congratulations to the hardworking team at LGB alliance.

It would be VERY interesting if the CC were to apply such robust reasoning to all lobbying, ahem sorry, charity groupsHmm

It's making me think too, and we won't be the only ones. There will be more influential people thinking it too.
Erkrie · 20/04/2021 16:02

Gosh the hissy fit on twitter is so homophobic. How did we get to this place.

highame · 20/04/2021 16:07

Excellent news. I saw Little Owen having a bit of a meltdown. How fantastic

yourhairiswinterfire · 20/04/2021 16:07

It's appalling Erkrie. I'm seeing a lot of actual hate, and it's certainly not coming from LGB Alliance.

R0wantrees · 20/04/2021 16:16

It's appalling Erkrie. I'm seeing a lot of actual hate, and it's certainly not coming from LGB Alliance.

There is a recognisable pattern of behaviour with some people whereby the blatently false accusations they make are in fact admissions.

(Someone usefully suggested it was worth imagining a budgerigar pecking at a mirror)

Leafstamp · 20/04/2021 16:17

Apologies if this has already been quoted/referenced. The Charity Commission has stated:

A purpose of promoting the equality and human rights of lesbian, gay and bisexual people is not inherently discriminatory and does not necessarily have the effect of inhibiting the rights of transgender people.

para 28 here: www.gov.uk/government/publications/lgb-alliance/lgb-alliance-full-decision#fn:5

I agree with whoever said that the CC will have spent a lot of time looking at this application and so I think we can be comfortable with their judgement.

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2021 16:19

Also that the CC have considered related law, such as Maya Forstater's case, and made their decision. It's clearly been looked at carefully.

adviceseekingnamechanger · 20/04/2021 16:21

I'm excited to have a charity that might actually represent me, and not Stonewall's endless bullshit. Well done Alliance LBG!

ArabellaScott · 20/04/2021 16:22

@BoreOfWhabylon

MNHQ has confirmed that Evarish has been banned.

Oh dear. What a pity. Never mind.

Generally I prefer people not to be banned, so we can see them clearly. But wishing death on the entirety of MN is probably really not in the spirit.
RedDogsBeg · 20/04/2021 16:23

The tunnel vision and absolute certainty that the T must be included in and at the centre of everything. A mild example:

So... what about trans people? Do.. they not deserve your helps well? Where is the T?!

great response:

They have Stonewall which prioritises trans people over all others - even if that means damage to the rights of women in general or lesbians in particular.

R0wantrees · 20/04/2021 16:24

2. It says 'LGB Alliance believe in the concept of ‘adult human female’ which disregards trans people'. What about the concept of 'adult human male'? What about all the other 'concepts' that are in the dictionary and allow English speaking people to meaningfully converse?

Do those signing disbelieve that women exist and are human? Its quite a reveal that not only do these folk not but they wish to outlaw those who recognise the maturity, sex and humanity of women.
