Kim Johnson - it should cover all types of parental leave. and doesn't cover Scotland (in some way - I didn't get that??)

needs to be more inclusive.

Pandemic has put women at a greater risk of losing jobs

WESC report warned that govt plans for economic policy needs to consider women's needs. W more vulnerable financially, childcare, caring, working mums etc

She's said 'woman' loads of times!!!!

Endofthelinefinally · 01/03/2021 17:54

Kim Johnson fine, but muddling sex and gender.

Xanthangum · 01/03/2021 17:54

Lib Dems views are all a bit Nichten Lichten (He said he didn't like it, but he'll have to go along with it.)

gardenbird48 · 01/03/2021 17:55

Jim Shannon DUP.

amendments very simple - no difficulty in accepting them.

Someone had a miscarriage but still a mother (told a nice story about mothers day/flowers etc).

echo comments re. this should be the first stage and needs to deliver for Scottish/Welsh/Irish assemblies.

LizzieSiddal · 01/03/2021 17:55

SantaNameChange · 01/03/2021 17:55

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 17:55

Penny Mordaunt still hasn't taken her coat off. Is it freezing in there?

gardenbird48 · 01/03/2021 17:56

haven't seen Joanna at all and her name doesn't seem to be there. Penny closing the session now

gardenbird48 · 01/03/2021 17:57

I like that we are all sat here listening to this.

SantaNameChange · 01/03/2021 17:58

@gardenbird48

I like that we are all sat here listening to this.
Me too!
MichelleofzeResistance · 01/03/2021 17:58

Crispin has probably hidden Joanna in a broom cupboard somewhere.

Well that was a predictable lot of silly waffle.

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 17:58

women and trans men

This would be inconsistent with the amendment permitted in the Lords and the justification for it. The word "woman" was rejected, mainly because they're in a tearing hurry to get this bill enacted and this would have caused delay while the word "mother" would get the business done in short order. The justification given for "mother" being the best choice is because of the McConnell Court of Appeal decision, that is, "mother" as a single term embraces women and transmen, the Court of Appeal said so.

Therefore using the term "women" would be problematic because that would mean reverting back to already discarded language, and thus introducing delay, and the word "mother" should not be supplemented with "trans man" because that would suggest something that runs contrary to the Court of Appeal decision.

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 17:59

Oh fuck off, Penny.

Xanthangum · 01/03/2021 17:59

Penny Mordant just said TWAW?

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 17:59

ending with 'TWAW' and TMAM'

SantaNameChange · 01/03/2021 17:59

@ArabellaScott

addressing Crispin's comments now

cringe at LGBT phobia in the past - would we have called out homophobia in the olden days.

comparing with transphobia.

the amendments are legitimate and understandable and legally sound

transmen are men and transwomen are women.

great care has been taken to get that message across. Penny are you seriously saying that humans can change sex??

SantaNameChange · 01/03/2021 18:00

What a stupid thing to say - what does it mean

ArabellaScott · 01/03/2021 18:00

Because that's obviously the most important thing to note about maternity

Endofthelinefinally · 01/03/2021 18:00

"All Women" Eye roll.

BattyOrange · 01/03/2021 18:00

'but of course, I was very, very, drunk'

Cuntysnark · 01/03/2021 18:01

yourhairiswinterfire · 01/03/2021 18:01
