I am usually a lurker on this board, and have read a bit here about Magdalen Berns. I found this and it made me feel ill it is so vicious and cruel. mobile.twitter.com/sineadactually/status/1314985057937956864

No wonder so many feminists are too scared to speak out, if this is the resulting hate, even after death....

I have never said I'm OK with it so not sure why you think I am.

Except that you did try to claim that "nobody, anywhere" was ok with it. Which is obviously untrue.

Quaagars · 12/10/2020 10:17

Nowher have I said I was OK with it.
I have never said I was OK with it but I'm being asked why I'm OK with it, and to defend abuse.
I have never been OK with it.
Me.

Quaagars · 12/10/2020 10:19

Don't know how to say that any clearer tbh!

Kantastic · 12/10/2020 10:19

Oh I'm so sorry, I just jumped to that conclusion based on how time and energy you dedicate to condemning women who are the targets of this abuse, vs how much time and energy you devote to condemning the abuse itself. At a certain point when you spend so much more time berating the victims than the abusers, "he's okay with the abuse" is the natural conclusion to draw.

There are THOUSANDS of abusive threats by transactivists on those links. You've spent all this time on ONE extremely tame by comparison Tweet by Magdalen Burns. It says a lot about your morals and your priorities, whether you acknowledge it or not.

Quaagars · 12/10/2020 10:24

Yes, and I think they're vile.

Yes, because this is a thread ABOUT MB.
Not playing a game of whataboutery.
I can think both "side" abuse is vile.

DialSquare · 12/10/2020 10:27

It's not a thread about MB. It's a thread about someone mocking her death. You have not spent any time on here discussing that.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 12/10/2020 10:30

Both sides? Show me one tweet were women mock the death of transwoman?

I'm really interested to know Quaagars what you think of people, who have a pregnancy fetish?

DoctorTwo · 12/10/2020 10:31

Ooh, thank you @AmericanSlang, I will order one of those and plan to wear the fuck out of it.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2020 10:31

Don't know how to say that any clearer tbh!

Just pointing out that you did definitely make the untrue claim that nobody, anywhere was ok with it. Clearly quite a lot of people are, aren't they? So this abuse of women for gender critical views is rife, rather than something you can handwave away as irrelevant.

DialSquare · 12/10/2020 10:33

Anyone decent appalled at Magdalen's tweet would have also condemned the abuse she received and the mocking of her death. Anyone who doesn't, has an agenda.

Quaagars · 12/10/2020 10:40

Both sides?

Why is it automatically not abuse and "just someone getting a bit cross and losing their temper" if they haven't sent threats?
You know they both can be abuse, right?

I'm really interested to know Quaagars what you think of people, who have a pregnancy fetish?
I think it's pretty fucking weird tbh (to put it mildly)
What the hell has that got to do with the majority of trans people though?
People have all kinds of sick and weird fetishes all the time, if someone not trans had one, would it be a case of "look, this is what people who aren't trans are like!"
Don't think so.

Cocothefirst · 12/10/2020 10:41

Quaagars on this very site, a transwomen told me that my experience of infertility was less painful than theirs because 'at least I had a womb'. Here in feminist chat and they'd fathered children.

I don't blame Magdalen at all for kicking off just once. I couldn't kick off on here at that person who took my experience and made it All About Them because they were transitioning.

Rest in power, Sister.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 12/10/2020 10:51

Those are the people MB was talking about.

There was a transwoman who "stimulated" pregnacy, and was planning to loose the baby at 41 weeks, they asked a friend who had a stillborn, for advice.
This person was on a breastfeeding group, and a woman was kicked off the group for saying she felt uncomfortable with what that person was doing.

There are trans women on twitter with large followings who "joke" about forced "breeding".

Period fetish is huge, and it is increasing because women can't say no without being called transphobic.

DoctorTwo as well as being a fabulous buy in itself, you'll be supporting a female artist who has experienced a lot of unpleasant abuse and attempts to cancel her career, from the wonderfully kind and not at all authoritarian "artistic community"

DidoLamenting · 12/10/2020 11:27

There you are again with 'strident'. Such a misogynist word. It's OK by me if Magdalen puts misogynists off being GC. I'm not clear that we want misogynists overly much. I mean, maybe to make the tea?

It's so black and white for some of you isn't it? Any comment less than 100% approval is evidence of being a TRA or a misogynist. It's the same approach as the TRAs you (general you) condemn. Sides have to be taken-one must be for or against with nothing in between.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2020 11:28

if someone not trans had one, would it be a case of "look, this is what people who aren't trans are like!"

If someone not trans had one, it would be rightly criticised as sick appropriation and women who had suffered a miscarriage or a stillborn baby who were upset by it would be listened to and the person would be banned from the pregnancy group. Instead see the delusion-affirming clusterfuck and unforgivable treatment of a woman who had had a stillbirth that ensued in the Facebook group being referred to here.

crunchermuncher · 12/10/2020 11:28

Nope. But 'strident' (along with shrill, hysterical, etc) is a word usually levelled against women, not men, for strongly expressing an opinion.

I think it was a comment on your choice of language.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2020 11:30

How many men do you tend to call "strident", Dido?

Quaagars · 12/10/2020 11:40

Any comment less than 100% approval is evidence of being a TRA or a misogynist. It's the same approach as the TRAs you (general you) condemn.

Exactly

Winesalot · 12/10/2020 11:42

Having followed a twitter thread to see a profile of a tra, I discovered their profile was to promote their home masturbation transporn videos. And their friends. A very large group of friends (and easy for a 14 yr to also come across).

I think to play down the proportion of the fetish aspect of these activists means you simply haven’t discovered it yet.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/10/2020 11:44

Yes, because this is a thread ABOUT MB.

It is, specifically, a thread about MB still being attacked after her death. How vicious and cruel it is, and the effect on feminists being made to fear speaking out.
Ignoring the continued abuse with maybe a dismissive 'it goes without saying' and turning the thread into more (rehashed) criticism of MB is frankly, imo, 'not in the spirit'.

EvenSupposing · 12/10/2020 11:49

Strident is a misogynist word. There are loads of them. Don't use them and people won't call you misogynistic.

You know this Dido. Don't pretend you don't.

Winesalot · 12/10/2020 11:52

Blunt used the term hysteria in the opening of his question time for Liz Truss. He is a man who is not hiding his misogyny at all.

Winesalot · 12/10/2020 11:55

I wonder how many have reported the tweet and what twitter will do. Most likely twitter will ignore it. The person tweeting it has retweeted it numerous times with pride.
