I've just seen this thread by Fair Play for Women regarding their stance on toilets. Maya F is also on the thread clarifying the issue.

twitter.com/fairplaywomen/status/1312062467191734273?s=21

They are saying that everyone should be comfortable choosing the toilets they want to without being forced to share with opposite sex. Yup. Trans people should also not have to share with people designated at birth. Yup, also agree. Have a mix sex category for people who don't mind and trans people. Sure.

They are saying these facilities already exist. Accessible toilets. This is where I feel lost and let down. These toilets are for disabled people. People worked hard to get these accessible toilets. I don't want my mum having to share these toilets with trans women, anymore than I want them in female spaces. It's just wrong. And don't disabled people have a say as part of the EA2010?

Please tell me I have the wrong end of the stick.

@CharlieParley

The case was probably uncontested because they realised they didn't have a hope of winning and so didn't want to spend the money. But you are right, it does not set precedent, however it's the only case we have.

EHRC guidance is quite clear and they are prepared to defend it in court. If they lost it could very well be the end of them, it is their job after all to interpret the law and give guidance to its implementation. It would be a huge gamble to risk this when they could have just tweaked their guidance a bit. And GEO, Liz Truss's office agree.

Look you may turn out to be right, perhaps Anne Sinnott will win, it wouldn't be the first time the courts have given an unexpected verdict, although whether it could be sustained up to the European Courts seems even more doubtful. But I don't fancy your odds much. And I certainly wouldn't be advising women's organisations and service providers that your position is definitely law because that could prove very expensive should anyone follow your advice. Which incidentally is why no-one has and pretty much every high street retailer and major business allows trans people to use toilets and changing rooms inline with their gender. Not because they are woke. Because their lawyers have told them to.

yourhairiswinterfire · 04/10/2020 19:17

Nobody under 35 gives a shit. They think your position is baffling and unlike a lot of GC people they actually know and are friends with trans people.

Me and my friendship group are 24-28yo and we all, males and females, most definitely do give a shit. Nothing baffling about it.

Misogyny is something women are only too used to in this world. Members of the male sex are always trying to undo the rights and freedoms that women have achieved and it would appear that transwomen are just the same as any other males with their demands. It might take some time but women will just keep on fighting.

That’s the reason there is such a massive push to get this shite into primary schools. Get them early enough and they’ll believe anything. Much harder to undo it later.

Agreed Malahaha
There's a reason activists are so desperate to get into schools and universities and target the young before their life experiences enable them to stand up to bullying and gaslighting.
There is a significant roll back on this as the excesses and extremes keep coming to light. The sunlight that is shed when men demand access to women's sport is massive.

Malahaha · 04/10/2020 19:28

Never underestimate the sheer revolutionary power of furious women! Grin. It's going to happen.

CorvusPurpureus · 04/10/2020 19:30

Well, jj is sort of right that 'nobody under 35 gives a shit', but not quite how he wants to be right.

I teach. The Overton window has quietly shifted away from wide eyed uncritical adulation for trans issues.

'Did you just assume my gender?!' is becoming a joke, a faux outraged bit of banter. 'Non binary' is greeted with a tolerant, amused eye roll.

& today's secondary school students have often experienced, or have a mate at another school who's experiencing, the joys of unisex bogs, & they do not like them. At all.

Teenagers might be fickle, they might be naive, but they aren't stupid.

I really wouldn't put much faith in the youth of today to support male intrusion into female spaces. They're really rather increasingly Over It.

yourhairiswinterfire · 04/10/2020 19:36

@SpartacusAutisticus

What's with the under-35 ageist bullshit? Do the views of those over 35 matter less? FFS.
I've seen it said loads of times by activists in a ''ha, you 'oldies' and your bigotry will die out and the next generation will take over and sort everything out'' sort of way 🤨
Malahaha · 04/10/2020 19:42

We also have to remember it's not just women. It's also men. No father wants his daughter to lose out in athletics because of transboys, or lose her privacy in what should be intimate spaces, share a changing room with an intact male.

Women's loos are not just for peeing. Women have miscarriages there; they are refuges from from bad dates. When I was 16 I had a serious period mishap and fled to the loo with a friend. Many men as well as women are very much fighting back.

jj1968 · 04/10/2020 19:56

Many men as well as women are very much fighting back.

Indeed they are. Donald Trump, George Galloway, Ruper Murdoch, David Davies, Douglas Murray, Jordan Peterson, Brendan O Neill, some of the most awful creepy misogynist men on the planet are very much on your side. No wonder young feminists looks at that shitshow and think eugh.

EvenSupposing · 04/10/2020 19:59

I always think it's a bit like snowboarding. You couldn't move for snowboarders on the slopes in the 90's. Now most of the snowboarders are 40 something men and the cool kids are back on skis.

The younger generation despise the one before. Plus IRL I don't know anyone under 18 (or over actually) who believes in this bullshit. Mainly because it's just not true

EvenSupposing · 04/10/2020 20:00

Honestly the whole right wing thing is pretty desperate and pathetic. Could you stop now?
Datun · 04/10/2020 20:04

Someone who thinks the under 35s are an homogenous group, evidently hasn't paid close attention to teenagers.

Anyone who can be deemed the slightest bit older than themselves will barely even be considered worth rebelling against. Irrelevant is the word.

There is no way today's teens will all be taking their cue from people in their mid 30s. 🤣

And whatever today's teens think, tomorrow's teens, in a couple of years, will think the opposite, as a foregone conclusion.

And re FPFW, it's rather obvious, that when women disagree, threats of rape and violence are notable by their absence.

And yes, there is none of the nonsensical reverse ferreting going on that we see from trans groups.

'Bloody hell, yes, you're quite right, we're sorry.'

Women talking together, pointing out where things go wrong for them and why, is a brilliant aspect of feminism.

Then where was the backlash against lesbian and gay acceptance by millenials? Political progress doesn't work like fashion. Trans inclusion is embedded in many parts of the world, most notably the states. The world hasn't ended. Women still exist in New York and California. No-one cares about this stuff in the states except the extreme right. In the absence of some kind of far right coup then there is no reason to think that's not where we're heading. Much of Europe is already there.

Malahaha · 04/10/2020 20:19

That's the difference, isn't it!

jj, far from GC activism being a right-wing movement, most of us are decidedly from the left. Heck, I was raised by an extreme Marxist, atheist father and an extreme feminist mother! My family couldn't have been more left. Many of the women on this board are former Labour voters, but won't vote Labour again because of their trans policies.

Deliriumoftheendless · 04/10/2020 20:21

If transwomen have been regularly arrested in the last 40- odd years by coppers assuming they’re soliciting sex that’s not really an issue now the police have had so much training.

What PC is going to assume a transwoman is a sex worker just because they’re using a male toilet?

OvaHere · 04/10/2020 20:22

Women still exist in New York

Not in this specific seat that was supposedly ring-fenced to ensure female leadership participation in politics they don't.

www.womenarehuman.com/man-elected-to-female-leadership-seat-that-was-created-to-ensure-female-participation-in-politics/

Stop trying to act as though other countries are devoid of issues.

Langsdestiny · 04/10/2020 20:23

That's right jj the men who argue against the GC viewpoint are on the other hand upstanding members of the community, I can detail their criminal convictions if you wish.
