Just watched it, it featured Benjamin Butterworth, George Galloway and Rose of Dawn. BB got his arse handed to him by Piers and Rose was brilliant! Well worth a watch! It was on at 8.15 so you can watch it in an hours time if you're at home. Also Twitter reactions were v positive, with pp wanting to buy the book as a result!

At one point Butterworth looked like a recalcitrant 8 year old !

If there any evidence he's ever behaved like a mature adult, maybe 'Benjamin button' fits?

LizzieSiddal · 16/09/2020 12:33

I wonder if the interviewers thought Rose was going to have a go at JK, as they kept calling them a “trans activist” and didn’t say anything after Rose’s excellent contribution.

Mammatino · 16/09/2020 12:34

He hadn’t read the book. He couldn’t answer why that particular book was transphobic because he hadn’t read it. Imagine going on tv to denounce a book you hadn’t even bothered to read. I wonder if any of him and his vile little group of nasties has ever bothered to read JKR’s essays? That might be why they can never ever provide a single transphobic quote. It was fantastic, I believe I may have let out a few whoops at certain points.

Rose has posted the full clip on her Twitter

PhoebeSnow · 16/09/2020 12:41

It was excellent, Rose was great, well done to her, George Galloway was quite funny with his comments, and wee Ben was well and truly shown up !

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 16/09/2020 12:42

I enjoyed that too, especially Rose laughing and BB squirming near the end Grin

markzuckerbergsgreytshirt · 16/09/2020 12:46

Funny how butterworth thinks that as most people don't tend to know the difference between transvestites and trans people so that's why he takes the view it's important to vilify this book (that doesn't have a trans character in it) /cancel JKR.

But hey it certainly comes in handy that most people don't know the full details about trans "issues" in situations when they can't see the harm in taking away women only spaces etc cake and eat it.

George Galloway coming across exceptionally well, words I never thought I'd type... but we're in strange times.

I thought Rose was pretty excellent, clear, concise and composed.

MorrisZapp · 16/09/2020 12:49

Can't wait to watch the clip! My sister has the latest Strike book so I'll borrow it in due course to burn my eyes out with the unadulterated hatred.

Sunlight, laughter and Piers. It's all we need.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 16/09/2020 12:50

Is it just me that though BB had a “duper’s delight” smirk when introduced as a “journalist” Grin

ArabellaScott · 16/09/2020 12:52

I saw that, Gibbons.

ArabellaScott · 16/09/2020 12:53

the interruptions are irritating. God, Piers, please let people speak. Especially Buttons, he's delightful.

RoyalCorgi · 16/09/2020 12:54

From what I've seen most of the discussion focused on whether it was correct to call the book transphobic given that a) Button hadn't read it b) it doesn't actually have a trans character in it c) there is one character who is described in a single paragraph as having disguised themselves by dressing in a woman's coat and wig before attacking someone

That's all well and good. But surely the bigger issue is whether it's OK to wish someone dead or incite people to burn their books just because they've written something you don't like? I wish they'd said more about that.

beargrass · 16/09/2020 12:58

I enjoyed the contributions made by Mr Button. I hope he gets onto other outlets such as C4 News so that more of the population can hear about what they should and should not be reading.

Let's face it, as cervix-havers, we are all quite busy, so it's handy to have our free time and all the hassle of thinking (please!) narrowed down for us.

ArabellaScott · 16/09/2020 12:59

Sunlight, laughter and Piers. It's all we need.

This is giving me a very odd mental image. I'm not going to share it.

I agree, Corgi, that 'cancel' culture is one thing - the RIP tweets seem to me to be moving more towards the 'mass death threat' territory. Which I do find frightening, not just on an individual level. It's not healthy when large sections of the population think they can single out and attack a person to the point of wishing death on them because they perceive them as having different viewpoints. It's worrying. It's othering, dehumanising... I'm going to say it ... reminiscent of fascism.

PronounssheRa · 16/09/2020 12:59

As Gina Carano said the other day “they need to find less abusive representation”

Absolutely. I would be mortified if these men, who frankly come across as unhinged misogynists claimed to represent me.

It feels odd writing that, to be clear I mean butterworth, harrop et al. Do they really not see how badly they come across?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2020 13:01

That was GLORIOUS

Ghouliet · 16/09/2020 13:05

I downloaded the ITV hub app for this interview. It was worth it. What a laugh “Don’t call me cis!”. This interview showed how ridiculous the transgender ideology is that certain people are not allowed to write about trans people because TRAs say so. RoseofDawn made very good points, and had to stifle a laugh at one point.

A delivery man knocked on the door straight after I finished watching the interview. Guess what arrived. Divine providence? Grin

RoyalCorgi · 16/09/2020 13:11

It pains me to say it but I think it's people like Piers Morgan who are going to turn this around for us. Loads of women have been working really hard behind the scenes, responding to consultations, holding meetings, writing letters etc but ultimately it's people like Morgan, who is watched by millions of people, who will bring home to the public the insanity of what's happening.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2020 13:12

Butterworth is like someone's comedy creation.

user1599918528 · 16/09/2020 13:13

I enjoyed it too, though still think Piers is a dick who loves his own voice too much.

I came across this video when I got lost in the twittersphere which I thought was good: (its a trans woman explaining why she doesn't think JKR has said anything transphobic and why she is so fucked off with woke allies hijacking the trans movement).

Particularly relevant when you have Benjamin Butterworth and his ilk making such a Pratt of himself.

PegasusReturns · 16/09/2020 13:16

Fabulous - thanks for linking.

They just come across as feet stamping toddlers. Do themselves no favours at all.

PronounssheRa · 16/09/2020 13:17

Corgi

I agree, piers gets the message out to the masses in a way that it is impossible for most women.

He also won't get the kind of horrific abuse that has been levelled at women.

I did love the don't call me cis retort though. I think he knows more about this whole debate than we might have thought.

Catmaiden · 16/09/2020 13:18

That made me laugh so much 😊

Ereshkigalangcleg · 16/09/2020 13:19

Butterworth spluttering when he got cut off and rolling his eyes was reminiscent of Posie v Harrop. They have no idea how badly they come across to the average person.

Winesalot · 16/09/2020 13:21

I think he knows more about this whole debate than we might have thought.

He has had many interviews about this topic so yes, he knows.
