Just watched it, it featured Benjamin Butterworth, George Galloway and Rose of Dawn. BB got his arse handed to him by Piers and Rose was brilliant! Well worth a watch! It was on at 8.15 so you can watch it in an hours time if you're at home. Also Twitter reactions were v positive, with pp wanting to buy the book as a result!

He's just pulling words out of thin air. Now I see how PinkNews gets its 'stories'. They just make them up. Amazing, really.

I think the irony of this tweet by Benjamin Cohen of Penis news may have broken me:

"Transphobes:
@PinkNews
is a rag, I hate it
Me: Why do you read it?
Transphobes: No one reads
@PinkNews
, I hate it
Me: If you don't read it, how do you know what we publish?
Transphobes:
@PinkNews
is a rag, I hate it
Me: Bye Waving hand "

Don't be broken! Benjamin Butterworth is the best thing to have happened to GC feminism this week.

Long term, they're accelerating the spreading awareness of TRA messages and piqueing the interest of an ever wider audience. So it's all grist to the mill.

Remember the strategy was to avoid media attention? PinkNews are one of the few outlets repeatedly bringing the more extreme/outre aspects of this ideology to the public sphere. They're doing a great job.

merrymouse · 19/09/2020 09:52

The thing I find very depressing is the focus on whether JK Rowling has ever been transphobic and the lack of acknowledgement that all her comments have been about supporting women.

I’m only on page 103 of Troubled Blood, but as far as I can work out the main focus in this book is WOMEN! But who wants to talk about boring old women when you can get more clicks with ‘transphobic comments’.

It may be difficult to cancel JKR, but apparently it’s very easy to cancel talking about women’s rights. Even the Fawcett Society tweet platitudes instead of actually talking about the issue - because apparently that is somebody else’s job.

They literally do make stuff up. My absolute favourite is this article saying that Mumsnetters 'threaten drag queen with crucifixion'. When what was actually said was that if anyone did what this drag queen had done in any other arena 'they would be crucified'.

I literally couldn't believe it at the time! The whole article is absolutely ridiculous, but the 'threatened with crucifixion' bit is just Shock

And Owen Jones, who claims to be a serious journalist, retweets Pink News on a fairly regular basis. Bizarre...

I completely agree. He is quite unable to articulate any kind of logical or coherent viewpoint and comes across as a bit of a zealot.

Which is useful enough. But when you add in the fact that he is about the only person willing to be interviewed, and appears to leap at the chance, it's brilliant.

NoDebate was a deliberate strategy, because any searching questions expose not only the misogyny, but the lack of consistency, logic and evidence.

And there's Buttons barely unable to contain his excitement at the chance to do it.

I think his interventions will be very useful from the daylight perspective

moptophairshop · 19/09/2020 10:43

BB's contributions and the TRAs sharing the hashtag this week has led to two separate conversations with people I never thought I'd talk to about my GC views. One hadn't heard of self-id and thought it was a ridiculous idea. I suggested to both that they do what the overwhelming majority of opposers hadn't done and read JKR's essay & letter. One came back with the response "ShockShockShock Is that it?? Have I missed something else?" I just suggested if she had a strong stomach to search for the threats and abuse she received for them.

Before this week I didn't think I'd be able to comfortably say all this. The positive effects of sunlight.

MichelleofzeResistance · 19/09/2020 10:58

whether JK Rowling has ever been transphobic and the lack of acknowledgement that all her comments have been about supporting women.

But in the ideology of this political lobby, supporting women is perceived as transphobic. That's the bottom line in plain English. That is what people need to understand to make an informed choice about what this lobby is asking for when they say 'rights'. This is not a live and let live situation. The 'rights' being requested are the removal of sex based rights for all females.

Exactly. Luckily for us, BB hasn't had that memo and is just delighted to be centre stage. So I wish him well in his burgeoning career as the new TRA spokesperson!

ArabellaScott · 19/09/2020 13:29

'Mumsnetters 'threaten drag queen with crucifixion'.'

Crikey. It's a wonder we've not all been arrested.

The article is actually a rather useful instruction guide on effective protest

He is certainly a gift to GCs. Along the lines of Harrop and McKinnon. Not quite at Yaniv levels yet though, but there is time!

Could he be a gc plant - DEEP under cover?? Atoning for his sheer awfulness in identifying as a black person to access an event... anything seems to be possible in 2020.
