Just watched it, it featured Benjamin Butterworth, George Galloway and Rose of Dawn. BB got his arse handed to him by Piers and Rose was brilliant! Well worth a watch! It was on at 8.15 so you can watch it in an hours time if you're at home. Also Twitter reactions were v positive, with pp wanting to buy the book as a result!

I think the filter even filtered out Rose, an actual trans person, telling the truth.

Yes.

Almost as though he has form for this kind of thing...

RufustheSniggeringReindeer · 16/09/2020 14:50

@AntsInPenzance

Good lord. Benjamin thinks he did a good job on GMTV.

"Proud to have stood up for trans people on @GMB against the smears and attacks that try to undermine their existence."

He clearly wasn't paying attention to the transperson who disagreed with him!

What?

Oh my god he was awful...piers took him apart, it was embarrassing to watch

Maybe he hasn’t actually watched it?

Benjamin...mate! You were shit, even your mum would have been embarrassed on your behalf

DadOnIce · 16/09/2020 14:53

Never mind 'RIP JKR', little Benjy Buttons got buried there! His incoherent, enraged spluttering at the end was a joy to behold. Benjamin Splutterworth.

Whatwouldscullydo · 16/09/2020 15:18

That was incredible.

Talk about shown up

If you are going to go on tv and talk about some thing at least have a passing glance as to what you are talking about

He looked a right idiot

Thing is BB did do a good job by the standards of those who indulge in liberal narcissism - he went on national tv, spoke over an actual trans person, appeared to think those who don't agree with him deserve to be cancelled/death threats and made it all about BB and what a bien pensant morally superior wokester he is.

That was the purpose of it, nothing more and nothing less.

But by gawd the takedown was an absolute tonic Grin Grin Grin

highame · 16/09/2020 16:04

Yesterday was a bit of a low, but seeing that has just given me a real lift. How fantastic.

There we have it, the less intelligent male equivalent of Titania McGrath.😂😂😂 well done Benjamin

Muttonindistress · 16/09/2020 16:09

Have just watched this on YouTube. Well worth a watch. Even the initial shot of Piers looking despairing is priceless.
Every time I see Benjamin Buttface (sorry, childish, I know) on GMB I genuinely wonder whose side he’s on. Surely he must know what an idiot he looks and how much harm he’s doing the cause he’s trying to support. There must be loads of transgender people shouting ‘God no! Please shut up’ whenever he appears.
I thought it was a shame that Piers and Suzanna didn’t pull him up on the ‘transphobic tweets‘ lie, but at least Rose of Dawn did. 👏👏

Swallowzandamazons · 16/09/2020 16:27

I just found the whole ten minute segment on youtube and oh, how delicious that was. I had to watch it twice in a row. I'm afraid the first time I was left sitting open mouthed at the incoherent spluttering from the odd wee man down in the left hand corner.

Him, OJ and Haddock.....I find it really odd how similar they all are. They're weedy, probably got kicked in the face a lot at school by their male classmates and picked last for every sport etc. Made fun of for being gay, speccy, short, weedy, effeminate, gay, all by the males that surrounded them I expect, and yet it's females that they hate. I can actually see the hatred coming off them all, it's almost tangible enough to touch and taste. Sad pathetic worms.

I rather liked this comment on BB's twitter thread

I personally am looking forward to your insights on more books you haven’t read.

Maybe set up a non book reading club.

Literacy in probably transphobic anyway.

SunsetBeetch · 16/09/2020 16:28

@MichelleofzeResistance

And again a non-trans male 'ally' stating extremist stuff right in the face of a trans person telling them they don't agree. I have happy memories of India Willoughby handing someone very similar his over intense, highly woke arse.
Was that also Benjamin?

OOPS. I mean bottom RIGHT hand corner. Not George Galloway, sorry!
AvocadoBathroom · 16/09/2020 16:33

Rose of Dawn is a true light.

SunsetBeetch · 16/09/2020 16:38

Yes, India Willoughby also went up against BB.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 16/09/2020 16:39

Couldn't GMB find one women with an opinion?

I'm sick of hearing what men think is and isn't transphobic. And never hearing what is and isn't misogynistic.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 16/09/2020 16:42

Perhaps these non-trans allies really do see the TW as a woman then.

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 16/09/2020 16:50

That's a very good point Zutt. We keep trying to flag up that this is really about WOMEN'S rights (which JK was trying to defend in her tweets), so having it discussed once again by a panel of male people is really missing that point. There are so many well-informed women they could have asked who would have been much more relevant to the discussion than George Galloway, much as I enjoyed some of his contributions on this occasion!

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 16/09/2020 16:56

That was hilarious!

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 16/09/2020 16:57

The issues facing JKR are pure misogyny, none of the non-women needed to be there.

Although, I agree Galloway was entertaining.

Thelnebriati · 16/09/2020 16:59

I'd like to see Butterworth back up his claim about ''derogatory comments against trans people'', or apologise.

LukewarmCustard · 16/09/2020 17:10

My favourite part was towards the end of the piece, where Benjamin ranted at the camera even though his mike was turned off. Did he really think that yelling at the camera would somehow get him more airtime?

CitizenFame · 16/09/2020 17:10

@RoyalCorgi

From what I've seen most of the discussion focused on whether it was correct to call the book transphobic given that a) Button hadn't read it b) it doesn't actually have a trans character in it c) there is one character who is described in a single paragraph as having disguised themselves by dressing in a woman's coat and wig before attacking someone

That's all well and good. But surely the bigger issue is whether it's OK to wish someone dead or incite people to burn their books just because they've written something you don't like? I wish they'd said more about that.

I watched most of the show this morning. The segment before, or a couple of segments before the debate, they were discussing Facebook safety and monitoring abusive posts on FB in an interview with a FB representative. The J.K. debacle was brought up and the talk focused not on the issue itself but whether it was acceptable for a hashtag to trend online wanting a woman dead for writing a fictional book. So it could have been brought up in the debate (although I thought the debate was excellent, if not too short) but the show definitely didn’t gloss over or ignore that point
NKFell · 16/09/2020 17:10

I’ve been avoiding the feminism board for a while, too much depressing shit in the world!

However! What a great thread to ease me back in, and Ha fucking ha Benny Button 😂

ahagwearsapointybonnet · 16/09/2020 17:12

Oh we did need Button or someone like him though, in order to expose the ridiculousness of their arguments! But I'd love to see him set against some GC women who know their stuff, there are plenty to choose from.

KatVonlabonk · 16/09/2020 17:12

I haven't whooped like that since Posie walloped Haddock.

Please sue the ridiculous brat JK , for surely that was slander.

And love Rose of Dawn too

IIRC that was India handing the very same Benjamin Button his arse on the very same Good Morning Britain Grin
