Jameela and Josie backing away

I’ve checked as much as I can and apparently Jameela Jamil and Josie Long (I’m not sure who she is but lots of followers) have deleted their tweets supporting Mermaids. Jameela also seems to have removed her unpleasant tweet(s) to JK Roeling (I don’t think I’ve missed them on the searches) An interesting development.

Twice yearly residentials • Whole family welcome
• Support for siblings
• Guest speakers
• Social contact
• Learn from others • Gives hope

See also the volunteers needed part of mermaids. Basically they need a lot of over 18s to volunteer.

But you need to give passport info to join the forums etc and be allowed to know when and where these residentials are.

I wish I could find a thread where we'd taken screen shots from the last website; it did say that over 13s could attend without a parent/ adult chaperone iirc. (I was v surprised at the time, it would be good to verify that.)

The last couple of pages on a thread about JJ on a certain fruit-growing site are rather illuminating.

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 13:01

Oooooh. Too chicken to have a look. My blood pressure can’t take it in this heat!

NeurotrashWarrior · 12/08/2020 13:05

Illuminating.

JamieLeeCurtains · 12/08/2020 13:05

I love a bit of occasional fruit farming ... back soon.

contactusdeletus · 12/08/2020 13:25

That Mermaids pdf was unreal.

Two entire slides asking you to put yourself in the agonizing daily life of a trans child - but every single thing they describe (bar showering in the dark) was something I experienced as a child, and into my teens. I was lonely and friendless and my day-to-day life at school looked exactly like that. Right down to the little things like spending your lunch hour in a toilet stall and no-one noticing, or having "friends" who would pass the time of day with you in a shared class but didn't think you were good enough to be seen with outside of it.

I wasn't gender nonconforming. I wasn't visibly gay, and I went to huge lengths to hide how poor I was. I was just bullied because, frankly, children bully each other sometimes. I was a quiet, sensitive child who was top of every class, and a kid like that is often seen as an easy target. That's it. It happens in every class in every school in the country.

It horrifies me to think that a child might read that description of "living with secret dysphoria", connect it to their discomfort with their changing pubertal body, and then compare it to the rigid gender roles of the Genderbred man (or other Mermaids-sanctioned "teaching aids") and decided "oh, this feels like me. I must be trans".

Horrifying.

That is a highly entertaining account of JJ's antics SunsetBeetch.

Doyoumind · 12/08/2020 13:47

I never go to the fruit farm. Are there some juicy pickings that will survive the journey over?

The difference is that we were told ‘it’s a phase, teens are like that, you’ll grow out of it, when you get to uni you can reinvent yourself - be who you want to be, or ‘snap out of it you miseryguts’. Not it’s ‘you are special, it’s not your fault - it’s because you are special’. Lots of affirmation, cheerleading and attention.

Whatever happened to all those children who had ADHD? Remember when diagnosis was ramping up - it seemed that every other child was one the spectrum’ or needing drugs. My niece was prescribed Ritalin (?) - no, she is dyslexic...

I see all you celebs deleting your tweets that supported the charity Mermaids? Wonder why you are doing that.

Yes, I was very like that too contactus - except that I was also a tomboy, and traumatised by sexual abuse which made me hate my body - and this is a well-known factor in identifying as trans. And yet I knew I was still a girl and am now happy to be a woman.

Kids are totally being encouraged to think they are trans because they're confused, feel uncomfortable in their bodies or don't conform. It's horrifying. And I don't really understand the motivation for it. Why do the trans lobby want kids to be trans without questioning it, if it's such an oppressed life?

@ItsLateHumpty @Corsicana many apologies, my bad. I did tag JJ, I'd only # the other names in the Tweet & forgot I'd actually @ her. Even so, it was a bit weird that she took it under her notice at all. I've never had any interaction with her previously & she sort of leapt in at ridiculous o'clock in the morning. And I though I had no life.

No dramas. I still call equine excrement on her reason for deleting.

Wants to “concentrate on ‘activism’” aye, sure you do. Mm hmm.

Fruit farm? That’ll be the Kiwi farm. They are always in season, and ripe.

bishopgiggles · 12/08/2020 15:15

Couldn't see anything newsworthy when I put my wellies on.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/08/2020 16:02

Well that's an annoying deletion & strike. I did clearly state that different individuals want different thing and gave an example of one such individual who was suspected of wanting that thing by a Tavistock whistle blower.

I think this might be relevant:

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 16:36

I can’t even begin to understand what that’s all about.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/08/2020 16:46

Good lord, that Instagram post. Honestly, do people really exist who think that sending a couple of emails is "expending labour" ? You typed for a bit!

SerenityNowwwww · 12/08/2020 16:47

I believe they really do.

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 12/08/2020 16:47
