"When you lie about what I believe about mental health medication and when you misrepresent the views of a trans woman for whom I feel nothing but admiration and solidarity, you cross a line."

And I bet there won’t be much media coverage of her thread this time. Raise awareness of the negative impact puberty blockers are having and the concerns from professionals about side effects and homophobia?

Don’t mention it!Hmm

SirSamuelVimesBlackboardMonito · 05/07/2020 21:27

I'm also waiting for the media coverage of her tweets today. How're you going to spin those as transphobic, BBC?? Oh you can't? Fuckwits.

Lamahaha · 05/07/2020 21:32

@CaveMum

I’ve seen fan groups set up charity fundraisers in the name of their favourite celebrity before. Could be worth someone contacting her agent asking if they’d like to set up a JustGiving page for a local refuge, or a national women’s charity, etc. Though it has the potential for abuse - people setting up fake fundraisers, etc.

Alternatively could just ask her to nominate a charity or two for fans to donate to in her name.

Transgender Trend could do some help with the gardening. Only 9 days till the harvest.

I saw that on twitter this morning. Absolutely disgusting. Surely tagging someone in a picture of your dick along with words like that classifies as sexual harassment? If you went up to someone in the street and showed them your erect cock and told them to suck it, along with the words wore out old cunt we would all say that was sexual harassment.

If TW want women to think they arent a threat, not publically using youe dick as a weapon might be a start

NeurotrashWarrior · 05/07/2020 21:49

She's trending on twitter; it'll hit tomorrow possibly? The TW she quoted is also trending. And getting some hate.

Such a bang on tweet!

She who will not be cancelled keeps going!
BewaretheIckabog · 05/07/2020 22:46

I will email her and would urge anyone who hasn’t already to do so. She has mentioned how much the support has helped.

Regardless of her circumstances and her decision to fight for women and children it cannot be easy to be so brave, knowing how awful the backlash will be.

I do wonder if the treatment of the Baroness has spurred her on.

Highperbolay · 05/07/2020 22:56

I love her so much, I just want to go and give her a hug. I'm kind of scared of what all this will unleash. I don't know, I just feel the rage, I see it on Twitter, they don't know how to deal with this woman and I just feel like it will get so nasty. I'm not even talking about the 'Choke on my dick' brigade, I'm talking people like LOJ, Munroe, Harrop. The flailing, the misinterpreting what she has said, the twisting... I don't know, she is so bloody brave!

People are talking about how she is spreading conspiracy theories, how she is batshit etc, it was on fucking BBC Panorama a couple of weeks ago! This is stuff that people who work at Tavi have said, it's worthy of discussion!

Also, fucking disgusted at those DARVOing like mad with their 'oh she just ignored porn being sent to kids, what kind of person is she' when we know that it would have been reported and what she meant was she decided not to publicise it.

I really don't know if she reads this board, I feel like she must have been on here at some point but Jo if you are reading, please know that whatever they say, there are so many who support you. I think I might have to email her again soon too Smile

JKRisagryff · 05/07/2020 23:08

I know high I feel the same way, just want her to know how much support she has, she is really putting her neck on the line for all of us!

JemimaShore · 05/07/2020 23:17

The rage is frightening, I agree. Someone beloved, with a huge following, has said 'the Emperor has no clothes on" and it's unleashed such anger, by those wanting to believe that the Emperor is wearing the finest clothes ever made.

I just came across this on Twitter:

threadreaderapp.com/thread/1279890717507227648.html

It's an incredibly interesting string of tweets - fascinating. And very scary.

JemimaShore · 05/07/2020 23:36

Here is the text:

I retweeted a @jk_rowling tweet and weighed in as a mental health professional who has written 4 books on cult mind control and how to help those who have been harmed (and their families). I have spent over 4 decades in the field of research and helping those who have
been harmed by undue influence.

My web site is
Cult Expert Steven Hassan's Freedom of Mind Resource Center
Freedom of Mind Resource Center was founded by cult expert Steven Hassan so that cult specialists can help cult victims and survivors leave cults and heal.

freedomofmind.com

and have blogged for human rights, against conversion "therapy" and for gay and trans rights. A couple of years ago I was approached by @LisaMarchiano , a therapist who wanted to know my opinion on
the phenomenon of young people being drawn into a cult-like situation where, all of a sudden, they thought they were the opposite sex. I was very skeptical as I have close friends who are gay and a few friends who are trans, but my philosophy is to be "open-minded" and started reading, watching documentaries, and asked to interview detransitioners to better understand their experience.

I became convinced that in these people's cases, they were indeed socially influenced, much of it online, to believe they must transition. Some told me they were sleep-deprived, some described the praise and support they got for saying they were trans made them feel "loved" but the most surprising and upsetting thing was that some told me they watched Hypno porn. I had no idea what they were talking about and asked for some URLs.

After my deprogramming from the Moon cult in 1976, I became interested in mind control and in 1980 went to my first workshop, an NLP workshop by Richard Bandler, and discovered the power of Ericksonian hypnotic techniques. These are what Tony Robbins learned and marketed without saying it was Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). I did multiple trainings in NLP and even moved to Santa Cruz to apprentice John Grinder- the other co-founder of it. It was powerful and provided a methodology to understand cult mind control. I came to understand NLP was amoral- meaning the system of influence was entirely dependent on the ethics of the practitioner. I distanced myself from it as they marketed it to salespeople and corporate types. I wanted to know about Milton Erickson, the psychiatrist who NLP was based on, but needed a master's degree to receive ethical training in hypnosis from health professionals. I have been attending workshops (and giving them) ever since.

What I watched in Hypno porn IMO was weapons-grade mind control and if a person watches it, especially if they were at a low point in their life, confused, stoned, are friends with a bunch of trans folks, they could be profoundly influenced to, for example, believe they were a woman in a man's body.

Let me be clear! I am for human rights. For gay and trans rights. I am
against conversion "therapy." But what I have come to learn is that young people are not getting good ethical counseling regarding their traumas, their body image issues, their gayness- especially if they are raised in homophobic environments. They are being rushed to taking hormones and some cases surgery and then, sometimes years later, realize they have made a big mistake to transition. For these people, detransitioners have told me they have been harassed, treated as a traitor- exactly what cults do to defectors.

This is not right! So, I wish to add my voice to the mental health experts speaking up to say we need to stop the polarization and conflict and have a more educated nuanced point of view when it comes to human beings. Things are not binary- all or nothing (transition or die was the
ideology) vs. maybe transition, let me research, let me go for expert counseling, let me NOT be isolated from my family and friends by an all or nothing position, and let me do what is right for me. Taking powerful hormones is not benign- there are side effects. Get second and third opinions. Take your time.

Please visit my web site and learn about the Influence Continuum and BITE model and become a better listener. We all need to heal and come together- not be further polarized.

Porridgeoat · 05/07/2020 23:57

The GIDs clip was interesting. 40 staff have left over a 3 year period. Shocking!

HeistSociety · 06/07/2020 00:11

The thing that strikes me about people posting angry responses to JKR is that many of them seem to lack basic comprehension skills. They cannot perceive nuance, sarcasm, humour and they also sometimes just plain misunderstand what is being said. It's worrying that literacy levels are so low.

NotBadConsidering · 06/07/2020 00:36

Some lack literacy, some of them it’s deliberate. They know she’s saying what can’t be said: that they might be wrong. So the answer is to shout and denigrate and hope that is what sticks in people’s minds rather than the facts. Some well known activists are doing this. Their tweets are along the lines of:

“How dare JK Rowling suggest to these kids via Twitter that what WE have been telling them might be wrong and there exists a body of professionals who think we are doing them harm. The kids need to be protected from the truth because we can’t have them finding out that we have rendered them sterile and asexual for life for no reason, because that would be damaging.”

Yikes. If that's true, it's evil.
TheRattleBag · 06/07/2020 01:38

Bergdorf is off on one again........

Daily Mail Article

Apparently "J K Rowling is dangerous and poses a threat to LGBT people."

I just can't begin to vocalise how furious this whole thing makes me.

Deliberate twisting of words and misunderstanding, and complete inability (or unwillingness) to appreciate that there must be a debate about this.

ARGH!

AnyOldPrion · 06/07/2020 01:58

These people are unable to tone down their testeria aren’t they? Opinions are dangerous. The defences they have are crumbling. Please let this be the end stage.

Ginnyhip46 · 06/07/2020 02:36

It's a feeding frenzy on Twitter now as transpeoplearerealpeople is trending now and screaming and shouting at her.

Schmoody · 06/07/2020 02:44

Lumos may be JKR's charity, but it seems fairly uncharitable of them to be at pains to point out Baroness Nicholson is no longer involved, especially as that statement wasn't there last month.

Bergdorf will be the architect of their own downfall as all the people they have used on the way up will come for them soon enough now they are on the unstable throne. Same for Jamilla.
Hold tight, hold strong.
The parents and doctors will start to rise up.

Send cards to JK. She's a Shieldmaiden and lives by her principles.

This may have been the Baronesse's idea knowing the rabid crowd might go after Lumos.

Schmoody · 06/07/2020 02:56

I hope so Ginny

NotBadConsidering · 06/07/2020 03:27

Munroe Bergdorf is a vile human being in my opinion, tweeting the ridiculous conspiracy theory about some guy no one has ever heard of called Robert Heath.

Sling mud, sling mud, sling mud. Mud is opaque, covers up the truth.

SetYourselfOnFire · 06/07/2020 03:47

The media will just lie. This issue can't stay in a box when trusted institutions we rely on for a civil society and the social contract go out of their way to lie to the public. The trans movement is a corrupting influence on democracy.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 06/07/2020 05:30

Her work is changing things on Twitter. I imagine I'm far from alone in seeing a sharp uptick in followers since darling JK Rowling started tweeting.

There appears to be a flood of mostly women who've joined Twitter since June, outraged by the way she's been treated and, I'm guessing, looking for other gender critical posters to follow.

I've had a 10% increase in followers this week. It's exciting to see the tide of reason rising.
