"When you lie about what I believe about mental health medication and when you misrepresent the views of a trans woman for whom I feel nothing but admiration and solidarity, you cross a line."

But every time MB gets a newspaper mention, it always includes numerous full length evening gown shots (why??) so I imagine MB's ego is suitably stroked.

MiddlesexGirl · 06/07/2020 09:45

Oh my gosh I’ve been blocked by that person too. Honestly I’ve hardly done anything on Twitter. A few likes, and a couple of bland comments. I’ve not even retweeted anything.
How the hell am I on a block list already?

Me too. Can someone post the gist of what the original tweet was that JK was referencing?

On the matter of the NSPCC they are not doing their underlying cause, the protection of children, any favours at all. I was signed up to do some volunteering with them until I found out a bit more about their politics and realised I couldn't work with that.

Who had money on JK Rowling pivoting to supporting those who call people who take mental health medication "lazy"?

I take daily medication to function, this sentiment is beyond offensive, it is actively harmful to millions.

I would also be interested to know what hypno-porn is if anyone can enlighten us? I’ve tried googling but the answers are like gobbledygook to me! I don’t want to have to watch it GrinConfused

To be fair JK is also in full length evening gown in each picture in that article.

Cismyfatarse1 · 06/07/2020 11:57

You can't do womaning without a full length evening gown.

And the side by side shots just expose the size differences.

SunsetBeetch · 06/07/2020 12:01

Do you mean sissy hypno porn? (Link is fine, it's just Urban Dictionary.)

www.google.com/amp/s/www.urbandictionary.com/define.php%3fterm=sissy%2bhypno&amp=true

SunsetBeetch · 06/07/2020 12:02

Actually, maybe not that fine as there are some quite graphic descriptions!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 06/07/2020 12:04

Nope. Still don't get hypno porn.

SunsetBeetch · 06/07/2020 12:10

Yeah...I'm not convinced. It seems to be a bit of a cover up for AGP?

Siablue · 06/07/2020 12:12

All the arguments against her are this is so upsetting to trans people and JKR is not a doctor.

No one is really engaging with her argument on a proper level (and yes I have looked at the Twitter accounts of a whole lot of people who stress me out).

Ironically they will have the opposite effect. When I first joined Mumsnet I thought you were all a bunch of meaniesGrin. It was OJ who tipped me over the edge.

Lots more people will have seen that Newsnight report since JKR shared it and it is hard to frame yourself as as trans ally when you are turning a blind eye to homophobia, safeguarding concerns and medical abuse of children.

AbsintheFriends · 06/07/2020 12:17

Fair point greycorn. I guess what I meant was breast-thrusting/leg-baring poses in numerous full length evening gowns, as in the Evening Standard article. www.standard.co.uk/comment/comment/dear-baroness-nicholson-tea-and-cake-sounds-good-but-first-there-s-a-few-things-i-need-to-say-a4485491.html
It's as if MB makes these daft comments and empty statements to get publicity for their modelling portfolio. They're not exactly winning anyone over with persuasive argument.

Kantastic · 06/07/2020 13:09

any share tokens for that Times link? I was thinking of subscribing to them but from what I can read of that article, I might hold off on it a bit.

Chrestomanci3 · 06/07/2020 13:18

The headline isn't good but the article is very fair. Comments are good, too.
Not sure about sharetoken, sorry. Having read the Times intermittently back in the days when you could leave the house just to buy a paper, I've recently got a digital subscription, but this is the first time I've tried to share an article. I can see on the Times app where it gives you the opportunity to share an article, but is just copies as the address posted above - without the share token option, sorry.

Lamahaha · 06/07/2020 13:24

Aargh! I managed to create a share token a few days ago and was very pleased with myself. But today it's just not happening. All I get is the normal link. Sorry.

Seashell80 · 06/07/2020 13:26

I've just read that article too. Nearly all the comments are supportive of JK!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/07/2020 13:28

Look at the comments on the DM article, though. People aren't buying it. Also note the comparison photos in classic DM style - whoever put that article together is not a fan of MB.

Kantastic · 06/07/2020 13:35

Oh, that Times article gets better past the paywall.

Munroe Bergdorf, the trans model, tweeted: “JK Rowling is not a scientist

Mermaids seem to be worried

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 06/07/2020 13:51

That thread is a perfect into, really. Comment from concerned woman, avatar is a photo of kids playing in black and white, tweet is calm and sensible and concerned with the wellbeing of children. Response is "Be quiet transphobe" (no punctuation) from someone with a furry avatar of what appears to be the head of a donkey, or possible a horse with very odd ears?

That's as stark a "who are you more inclined to trust?" contrast as you could hope for.

maudspellbody · 06/07/2020 13:54

The TRA side seem to be doing their normal thing of jumping on one or two points and taking them to a ridiculous conclusion.

Shouting 'oh! So she's ok to ignore porn on children's posts, but she draws the line at people being mean to her, though!'

Who is posting porn on children's pictures? Not bloody JKR and not feminists. Yes. She is bloody ignoring it because it's playground bullying tactics, it's attention seeking and you learn when you are about 10 that that sort of thing is best ignored so the immature twatbags get bored and go away.

My favourite ones are 'oh please, please leave trans people alone!'

Er...stop baiting her and she'll stop defending herself. Fuck. Off.

They need to get their own house in order.

This makes me so ANGRY.

AbsintheFriends · 06/07/2020 13:57

This particular focus is jeopardising the smooth running of the Mermaids gravy train. They must be pressing refresh every 30 seconds on their online banking page to check if the Tesco millions have come in yet...

On a related note, part of what I love and admire so much about JKR is that each week she has highlighted a different aspect of TRA ideology, which the person on the Clapham omnibus might not be aware of. Erasure of the word woman. The reasons women need sex-segregated spaces. The safeguarding of children. And where she tweets, the MSM follow with a story, and the person on the Clapham omnibus goes, WTactualF??
