"When you lie about what I believe about mental health medication and when you misrepresent the views of a trans woman for whom I feel nothing but admiration and solidarity, you cross a line."

Erm, whats up with the many mad people claiming that when JK tweeted the detransition article, she said that because detransitioners exist, this means trans people don't? Batshit. Really. All the stuff she is accused of, she doesn't actually say, not even fucking close! They simply have to make up shit to argue against..

EdgeOfACoin · 12/07/2020 22:28

Why do so many of the 20-somethings respond to JKR on Twitter with "Stop. Just stop" or "Please stop".

Where is this from? Why do so many of them parrot these phrases? Do they think they are being cute and persuasive? Why don't they have actual arguments to put forward?

I know I am sounding old and grumpy. I only wish they would stop. Just stop.

ChattyLion · 12/07/2020 22:42

Probably because she’s repeatedly showing up the dangers for women and children within sexist and homophobic dogma.. and is doing so in front of a ginormous global audience?Grin

ContessaferJones · 13/07/2020 06:53

Completely agree with the above - I've read everything she's put out and I can't find the transphobia. I ask DH every other day if I'm being one of the baddies (hello Mitchell and Webb) and he wearily assures me that he's never heard me say anything transphobic. He's sick of the subject tbf, but will at least acknowledge that I don't seem to be a bigot. Therefore, will keep going.

I shared the article on FB (to tumbleweed) and got one baiting response saying they bet fucking JK is all over this. I said that was a reasonable assumption Grin not being drawn in!

Winesalot · 13/07/2020 09:35

I find the line that the activists are pushing on this tweet of an amazingly brave article is quite telling.

They seem to be ignoring the subject matter completely and focused on their own self absorbed agenda that she has done this, not to highlight a group of brave women and their stories, but on it is anti-trans. All about them. And please stop harming an ever so oppressed minority (forgetting that she is highlighting the even smaller minority of the minority’s actual experiences).

And now a group of them are bringing in ‘abortion regret’ as a vile comparator.

They even argue that there is plenty of support for detransitioners within the community, which seems to go against every desisting account I have read. Detransitioners say the exact opposite.

It continues to amaze me that women stick to facts and fact check things while these loudly vocal activists lie and twist things to fit their own hateful agendas.

BewaretheIckabog · 13/07/2020 09:41

It’s amazing how many of them admit they have not read the article or her essay.

endofthelinefinally · 13/07/2020 10:00

And they have no insight or ability to see why NOT having read the essay is a reason why they shouldn't be commenting on it.
It is extraordinary.

Yes, the amount of people saying, "I haven't read what she said, but I know it must be bad because of what other people are saying."

It's depressing how many people can't even be bothered to try to think for themselves.

endofthelinefinally · 13/07/2020 10:33

The News Night reporter, who did the awful piece on this last week, clearly hadn't read the essay either.

lionheart · 13/07/2020 11:08

I think it goes beyond not reading the essay to not knowing anything about the context.

Some of the points are specific to the UK (and especially Scotland) although have a relevance for other countries.

Of course, TWAW as a universal principle obviously means that none of this matters ...

The good news is that on social media you also can see people making connections between what has happened in their own countries and what is going on elsewhere.

CaveMum · 13/07/2020 20:32

The Tweets on JKR’s original Tweet have suddenly shot up! Some people are still reporting that they need to keep re-liking it but there were “only” 210k likes earlier today!

She who will not be cancelled keeps going!

For the maths nerds from upthread, 2+2 now = racism.

Begone Western mathematics (old and busted). Welcome Ethnomathematics (new hotness).

CaveMum · 14/07/2020 09:56

“Mysteriously” JKRs Tweet has “lost” 22k likes and almost 20k retweets overnight 🤔

CaveMum · 14/07/2020 10:36

Ignore me, I’ve just realised I’ve been looking at two different tweets

Pass the coffee!

ItsLateHumpty · 14/07/2020 10:50

Pass the coffee!

You’re on MN now so Gin and Grin all the way

SunsetBeetch · 14/07/2020 10:57

I watched a Posie Parker video last night, in which we said we need to support and lift each other up. So if JKR posts something GC, go and reply to her and agree/thank her, and don't get drawn into arguments and nastiness with TRAs. Good advice I think, which can be extended to all GC women who are putting themselves out there.

BaronessSlighterThanThou · 14/07/2020 11:17

Straw transmen?

This is very true. I have a bottle of Mermaid Pink Gin in the cupboard which is bloody luffly, so might crack that open.

Seems an appropriately named drink given the subject matter in this thread 😜

FantaOra · 14/07/2020 19:48

Go Posie.

She's been the woman that spoke to the ordinary woman and man, and PARENTS.

wellbehavedwomen · 14/07/2020 19:56

@ListeningQuietly

I don't think I've ever read a story on a successful woman that doesn't have at least some focus on their kids - let alone where there are four of them. Always reference to how they managed to balance both sets of responsibilities.

Sorry but I have to call utter bullshit on that one
of the women over 55 who had to deal with the old world
I suspect because I've looked into it over 50% have no children

happy to be called out - link to the wiki page

If they have children, I meant! If a successful woman has a large family, then it's always referred to. The assumption is that balancing the two is tremendously hard - usually hedged around with guilt - whereas with men, it's a throwaway line about wife and kids.

And I am not remotely surprised to hear that many, many successful women don't have any kids.

FantaOra · 14/07/2020 20:06

Women in their 50s with kids or without are experiencing a lifetime deficit due to overt discrimination at the beginning of their careers in the 70s and 80s .

This deficit is mostly unfixable.

wellbehavedwomen · 14/07/2020 20:15

When I was a younger teenager there was a really famous woman banker with 6 kids. I couldn't work out why she was in the media so much, given she was a financial industry high flier and not a politician or actor or otherwise a public figure. My mum told me it was to prove that women who didn't have it all were just not trying hard enough - I thought she was ridiculous, at the time. Now, of course, I think she's spot on.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/07/2020 20:35

That was Nicola Horlick

According to Horlick, "It's ridiculous that I am known as 'superwoman' ... Look at someone who has no help at home and holds down a job. Or look at me with my nanny and my secretary. Who would you call 'superwoman'?"

ListeningQuietly · 14/07/2020 21:54

Nicola Horlick was a successful businesswoman with kids
she was so unusual that articles were written about her

but business Men with 4 kids were not a news story
ever

hence my annoyance about the Transwomen "was married with 4 kids"
Jan Morris comes under that category too
how many REAL women were allowed on those expeditions in the 50s?

RedToothBrush · 14/07/2020 21:58

Today DH got into an argument about JKR with someone on social media. She was saying that JK was a transphobe etc etc.

DH asked her if she'd read what Rowling had said. She hadn't. So he argued and pushed her until she actually did read it.

She begrudgingly admitted that it wasn't as bad as she thought and whilst she didn't like the language she used, she admitted Rowling had a point.

I personally take this as a win, because she was never going to back down completely, and I was impressed that DH actually got her to read Rowling essay. Especially as this girl didn't like JKR or Harry Potter before she stuck her head above the parapet.

He's slowly dropping this nonsense into conversation with people he knows to some shock. He dropped the Asda debacle into conversation with someone whose wife works at a school the other day and that's certainly got them thinking about safeguarding failings and not checking materials provided by outside sources.

It's a drip drip drip, but I'm proud of him.

We will keep fighting and slowly spreading the word and challenging those who live with their heads buried in the sand and repeat unfounded smears.
