"When you lie about what I believe about mental health medication and when you misrepresent the views of a trans woman for whom I feel nothing but admiration and solidarity, you cross a line."

So it's kind of academically interesting but we only know about it because of our ability to look at genes. There is no evidence at all it impacts the gender identity of a person, but TRAs will use it as a "gotcha" for sex being non-binary

Thank you!

kenandbarbie · 08/07/2020 15:52

Oooo I've been blocked too! How exciting! And I've never even done anything except likes. Not even a retweet or comment!!!

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/07/2020 15:53

As an aside, this is how Benjamin Boyce got involved with all this.

He was doing some sort of post grad course at an arts college called Evergreen and it all imploded with political correctness and cancel culture. He's made a few documentaries/ podcasts about it, It's quite interesting to see how it all works.

nauticant · 08/07/2020 15:58

Here's one of Boyce's latests:

discussing with Abigail Shrier her book Irreversible Damage.

Last year on GenderCritical, we joked that Julie Bindel had given JKR a sock and now JKR was free to say what she thought.

Seems ain't nobody gonna take JKR's sock away!

Oh that message to Jennifer FB is fantastic!GrinGrinGrin

Blossom513 · 08/07/2020 17:06

She's tweeting about this on a daily basis now. She's incredible. She was already a brave and strong woman but I feel like every attack on her is just making her stronger and more determined than ever. She's making me braver too. I'm not commenting yet but I am retweeting more and also liking lots of other people's tweets.

I will be job hunting over the next 6-12 months (SAHP currently) which is one of the reasons I've been a bit cautious but I'm almost at the point I hope potential employers search my Twitter history, so it will weed out those employers that don't give a shit about women's rights and do me a favour by withdrawing any job offer.

Lamahaha · 08/07/2020 17:11

I made some acerbic comments directly to Kleinzweig (one of the silly closed bookshops) on Publishers' Weekly FB page. It's a public page so I've basically outed myself. hohum.

I haven't been on Twitter since before JK spoke out.

I'm actually quite emotional seeing her Tweets, standing out.
She's tweeting some brilliant quotes. I have goosebumps today. I also want to hug her (Covid aside) such is my pride.

I already emailed her to tell her she's not alone, she speaks for me.

Thanks JKR if you see this. Stick it to the man.

This was what I was referring to. Pure class.

Its fascinating really watching a someone so famous on this road. "Educating herself" after being instructed to by unwittingly liking a wrongthink tweet. And coming to GC conclusions as a result of that.

It really is. When they told her to go educate herself they must have forgotten that writers are good at research.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/07/2020 18:21

It's a mistake TRAs often make. "I'm not your servant, educate yourself, don't expect oppressed people to answer your questions". Ok then! And they end up on GC YouTube, Twitter or here, quite often. They probably would have ended up on Reddit gendercritical, but of course that's been cancelled.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/07/2020 18:28

I am of the firm opinion that JKR walks among us here on Mumsnet Grin

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 08/07/2020 18:30

Makes my eyes water just imagining someone treating a clitoris in the same way you'd treat a penis

Please don't do that, anyone reading along whose familiarity with clits is limited. I remember that article the first time it appeared here and that if you just dropped the gendery bits it could fit right into Cosmo etc. Turns out that if you know how to have sex with a male body then how the owner of said body identifies doesn't make much difference, other than in that you'd have to remember to play let's pretend to avoid them getting the huff.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/07/2020 19:26

I started watching that nauticant and was a little irritated by the flirting as I have a crush on him myself

Need to watch the rest as the book sounds really good.

NeurotrashWarrior · 08/07/2020 19:32

I think that some men wanging on about how women should shut up about trans rights don’t see women as an oppressed group. They see women speaking up about women’s rights as akin to ‘all lives matter’ or even worse ‘what about white people’s rights?’.

Nobel, absolutely this and women too

Thanks for the chimera links upthread; yes it's weird to think I'm a chimera now with 2 boys Shock.

It's still just a sexist argument isn't it. I don't get why non of them don't get it?!

Oooh she's really churning them out at the mo!

notassigned · 08/07/2020 20:21

She has lost a couple of hundred thousand followers since this started.

Blossom513 · 08/07/2020 20:24

@notassigned

She has lost a couple of hundred thousand followers since this started.

She's still got over 14 million followers. I don't think she will be worried about losing a few thousand. Plus she isn't doing this for follows. Unlike the actions of many other blue ticks.

ListeningQuietly · 08/07/2020 20:32

@notassigned

And the fan sites sulking at her have already bought her books .... she knows what needs saying and will now say it

more power to her
not a fan of the books after #3 but luff her

notyourhandmaid · 08/07/2020 20:38

In certain circles there's a lot of 'if any of my followers are still following this monster/witch/more unpleasant gendered-abuse terms, you are LITERALLY KILLING TRANS PEOPLE' pressure to unfollow and denounce.

All very normal and not at all deranged. But there will be at least some of those people who are unfollowing but then quietly checking back regularly.

lady69 · 08/07/2020 21:00

@notassigned

I can guarantee she doesn't give a flying fuck! The most successful multi-genre author of her generation, beloved by millions and a billionaire? Ha! A few flouncing twitter followers who have proven by their comments that they are misogynistic simpletons who like to post dick picks on children’s tweets? - indeed it’s laughable! She is probably glad to be rid of the rubbish. A good clear out is always a positive.
Datun · 08/07/2020 22:18

She has lost a couple of hundred thousand followers since this started.

Yeah, that'll be the perpetually adolescent 'choke on my dick and die' brigade.

Or alternatively, the serially mince dense, book burners to whom she enthusiastically offered to lend her lighter.

QuentinWinters · 08/07/2020 22:20

I for one will now be making an extra effort to buy her books and I bet loads of others will too. (I read them but a bit lackadaisacally. I'm gonna start buying hardback on release. Consumer power!)
