Thanks mate. The more the merrier.

John Cleese defends JKR

I don’t think the Danish GH thing is satire, he states ‘I am a woman’ absolutely straight. I think he is a GC ally and illustrating the insanity of the situation...if, on the other hand, he is serious then he’s not doing TRA any favours!

SameOldBS · 19/06/2020 19:12

Oh god, that sketch was so on point!

WashYourFins · 19/06/2020 19:13

Also OT but @GeraltOfRivia same here - used to send photos of larch trees to my Dad. Miss being able to do that.

And yes, "what it means to be a woman" is clearly illustrated by the difference in response to JKR and JC (violent threats vs lack thereof etc).

Yorkshirelass04 · 19/06/2020 19:15

Is it true that Britain is at the forefront of, let's say - trans critical feminism?

Wikipedia seems to think so. As in - most countries including America have accepted trans doctrine but the Brits won't. Is this true? Or are we naturally more cynical? Mumsnet is specifically referred to on Wikipedia as a source of anti trans sentiment.

I love that you shared this too. I know a couple of other people who had the same thing Thanks

I would also like to add that in the past week I have had a very heated debate on a friends Facebook post about the impact of the trans agenda on women. And essentially putting men's needs first.

It got to the point when the said trans person was asking me to prove my female status, because it according to them, it can't be defined. They said they would take my female status on 'trust' and they expected me to do the same for them.

I found this absurd and gaslighting. It's weighed on my mind since.

Since when is my biological identity up for debate?

HPFA · 19/06/2020 19:31

@MrsJamin

My daughter got told to watch the film by her RE teacher (along with Bladerunner, the Truman Show and the Matrix) in preparation for her RE A-Level course.

It was very strange watching it and telling her what a big fuss there was about it at the time but that if made today a scene that was entirely non-controversial at the time would be considered outrageous now!

She tells me non binary is "very silly but of course I don't say that." You wonder how many share the same view.

Perhaps he/she/them/they wanted you to prove it by pulling up skirt....etc... makes you wonder about the motives .... when they/he/she/whatever said you can't prove it..! How odd.

KipperTheFrog · 19/06/2020 20:18

I'm relieved to such a high profile man speaking out like this.
@Yorkshirelass04 the one time I've spoken up about gender identity and stereotypes on facebook, it was in response to something on let toys be toys. I got asked whether my daughters had had genetic testing to prove they are female. I left the group after that.

PopperUppleton · 19/06/2020 20:31

I'm scared to say much on Faffbook but one my strongly feminist friends posted recently about how transphobic JKR is. There was a bit of a debate with another of her friends raising all the points we raise here, but the feminist friend just said she believes that TWAW. But not Yaniv or 'that horrible cyclist'. I shake my head in disbelief. I silently cheered on the obviously GC friend

DameHannahRelf · 19/06/2020 20:43

"They said they would take my female status on 'trust' and they expected me to do the same for them."

Like

"If you ever asked me for a loan of money, I'd trust you to repay me, and I expect the same?" Only your money is pounds sterling and theirs is monopoly money Angry

CoffeeTeaChocolate · 19/06/2020 21:25

Take my female status on trust Wow, just wow.

That reminds me of coming to the UK border with my youngest and being questioned if I could prove that I was her mum. I was very tired and hormonal and offered to breastfeed her there and then (she was unsettled and hungry). The (male) border guard couldn’t wave us through quickly enough...

Yorkshirelass04 · 19/06/2020 22:07

I'm not joking, it did mess with my head. I knew every reason I could give for being female (like actual crippling period pains) they would be able to say didn't qualify. I began to question my own self.

I was also told that I didn't care about intersex people or trans men which is 'very telling'.

I don't care about trans men because I'm not a man and would prefer a man commented on what they think. However I don't see men giving up their spaces for women who aspire to be them. They won't budge an inch. Women aren't often entitled enough to try and be a man.

The concept of intersex can only exist, logically, if you accept there are attributes that are male and female. Which apparently I'm not allowed to own.

Yorkshirelass04 · 19/06/2020 22:09

@kipper that is outrageous.

Fucking hate that men get to define womanhood.

RedToothBrush · 19/06/2020 22:42

There is a name for men who know about the sexual abuse of women and want to increase it.

Scratches head.

Hmmm.

Is it 'Liberal Democrats'?

littlbrowndog · 19/06/2020 22:48

Och Yorkshire just tell them to fuck off

Who needs to engag3 with idiots

Do one is two words. I often use these two words to idiots and give the idiots no thoughts cos they don’t need any thoughts

Sexnotgender · 19/06/2020 23:07

wellbehavedwomen · 19/06/2020 23:14

@RedToothBrush I think I love you.

wellbehavedwomen · 19/06/2020 23:18

@Yorkshirelass04 what really bemuses are the howls of rage, if a person who's not trans writes a book, or makes a film, or plays a part that is. Because nobody can understand lived experience except the liver.

So men don't just get to tell us what it's like to be a woman (that's been mansplainer territory since year dot, and also most art was created by men, and still is) but that they ARE one, and we have to just meekly budge up. But try to even imagine being trans, when you aren't? Suddenly that's gatekept to the nth degree.

The hypocrisy, solipsism and gaslighting is just off the charts.

Somethingkindaoooo · 19/06/2020 23:54

@Datun

I see no one has recommended he choke to death on their girl dick, criticised his genitalia, or threatened to rape and kill him.

I wonder what on earth the reason could be?

That's what I came on to say too.

Delighted that John Cleese stood up for JKR.
But fuck me, if the Twitter replies aren't aliving breathing example of the very crap that women are still ( STILL) fighting against.

Woman says something, she is threatened with violence.
( Powerful) man agrees and he collects accolades.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 20/06/2020 00:23

RTB FTW! Grin

Pan2 · 20/06/2020 00:30

Marking.

SocialConnection · 20/06/2020 00:41

It's quite a Louis Theroux approach - ask mild, bland questions and sit back and watch. Then ask another one. Fantastic work. 👍

ThePurported · 20/06/2020 00:42

the feminist friend just said she believes that TWAW. But not Yaniv or 'that horrible cyclist

She clearly hasn't grasped the purpose of the debate. It's not about deciding which TWs are nice.
Or is your friend Layla Moran?
