Just chuck all the rapists in together...

EmpressLangClegInChair · 18/02/2020 18:33

In a way the rape bit is a red herring.

Men shouldn’t be allowed into women’s jails depending on how much they want to be there or how serious their crimes were. They just shouldn’t be there, full stop.

Tombakersscarf · 18/02/2020 18:54

The rapist of men in a male prison will not be around potential victims almost all of whom do not share his strength.

Privacy and dignity as well as safety

DuploTower · 18/02/2020 19:10

OK I get that. But why prison isn't really about privacy and dignity.

How do transwomen compromise the privacy and dignity of women, in a way that other women don't.

Surely rape is all this comes down to.

If I have to share a space with someone, I'd rather be alone, I'm not sure what difference it makes if they're a transwoman or a woman

Michelleoftheresistance · 18/02/2020 19:13

Women have the right to not be forced to undress in front of males. Privacy and dignity. That's why sex segregation exists in the UK. And it's written into the Geneva Convention as well as multiple other places.

Female privacy and dignity was a thing until it became a boundary to the freedom of less than 1% of males.

TimeLady · 18/02/2020 19:15

Transwomen are not 'other women'; they are, by definition, male.

A female cannot, by definition, become a transwoman.

HTH

Langsdestiny · 18/02/2020 19:16

That's lovely for you diplo, I dont consent to sharing that kind of space with men, you cant give my consent.

Langsdestiny · 18/02/2020 19:16

Duplo that should say.

I'm liking the term "biology denier" being used on Twitter ...

How do transwomen compromise the privacy and dignity of women, in a way that other women don't.

Transwomen are male. They have male bodies (including a penis in the overwhelming majority of cases), male socialisation, and are usually sexually attracted to female people. They compromise the privacy and dignity of women in exactly the same way males do.

theflushedzebra · 18/02/2020 19:28

Duplo, transwomen are born male, not female.

For a transwoman to have committed rape, they must still have a penis - indeed, many transwomen have no intention of having GRS, and enjoy calling their penis a "lady penis".

So if you wouldn't put a male rapist in with the women, then you wouldn't put a transwoman convicted of rape in with the women.

We have separate men and women's prisons for very good reasons. We segregate by sex in places like prisons, for very good reasons.

You do you.

My consent is not yours to give away.

DuploTower · 18/02/2020 19:32

I don't see how it makes any difference Whether a rapist is housed with male or female prisoners.

I don't understand how sex segregation promotes equality.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/02/2020 19:34

It's really quite obvious. Think about it Hmm

DuploTower · 18/02/2020 19:34

You get women who are attracted to women also

SarahTancredi · 18/02/2020 19:35

Are you saying lesbians behave like predatory men?

DuploTower · 18/02/2020 19:35

I really am. Can't you explain it to me like I'm 5?

R0wantrees · 18/02/2020 19:35

OK I get that. But why prison isn't really about privacy and dignity.

Duplo you do know that there is a Duty of Care to those held in prisons?

DuploTower · 18/02/2020 19:36

There will be some predatory women, of course there will. Women commit sexual crimes too.

What about the other women they have to share a cell with

theflushedzebra · 18/02/2020 19:38

Seriously? If you were to be locked in a cell overnight, you'd be just as happy to share that cell with a male as a female?

I don't believe you.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/02/2020 19:38

Duplo, why not write to the Minister for Prisons and start a campaign to make all prisons mixed sex. You have your slogan already: "sex segregation doesn't promote equality". Good luck!

theflushedzebra · 18/02/2020 19:39

Women commit sexual crimes too.

Women commit 2% of sexual crime.

2%.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 18/02/2020 19:39

You'll have lots of support from male prisoners, I'm sure. Women, maybe not but hey they're a minority of prisoners so who cares?
