I know grey rock, but I dont regard trans rights as absolute (religion and the ability to refuse to have trans priests is an obvious example)

So not absolute when it benefits a trans man (female person). I'm shocked I tell ya, shocked.

R0wantrees · 17/02/2020 18:19

A friend of mine (with no stake in this game) watched the video on which this case is based this afternoon and was as shocked as I was by the disrespect exibited to Lisa Nandy by Julia Long who smirked her way through Ms Nandy's answer without apparently paying any attention to it

I also showed it to a friend she was horrified by the disrespect/consideration that Lisa Nandy MP demonstrated towards victims of child rapists & vulnerable women in prison. She also registered concern about the implications of falsely recording data on serious sexual offences & then barely paused for breath as she outlined all of the possible Safeguarding implications she recognised straightaway.

Perhaps our friends have different foci: etiquette or Safeguarding?

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 17/02/2020 18:22

Nandy is just going to carry on using a single, sad Wigan child to justify putting 3,800 vulnerable all over the country women in harms way.

I don’t know anything about this YouTube channel, can’t see a name for the owner, for all I know he’s ‘Trump adjacent’ or some such. I’ve only watched these two videos.

It’s 🥝🌾🚜 style insulting language and crass humour but the bit about werewolves made me laugh out loud and it’s worth paying at least a little attention to as this is how saying stupid shit about rapists being allowed to choose women’s prisons is going down outside of the world of super woke Twitter or mumsnet FWR.

After the Radio 4 Interview (90k views) 4:30ish for the werewolf bit

After Julia Long’s questions yesterday (24k views, Venice’s original upload is up to 12k views and Posie’s mirror is at 20k)

Always good to receive advice about how we're feministing wrong. Is transwomansplaining a thing?

FloralBunting · 17/02/2020 18:23

Although I do have to smile that our erstwhile visitor is apparently happy to limit the march of trans rights so that those who transition and wish to be Catholic priests may be prevented from doing so.

Women's safety in prison is an outlier not needing much attention, and we can shrug away any instances of male sex offenders claiming trans identity because it hardly ever happens. But hey, look how magnanimous, the church can continue to bar females from the priesthood if they identify as male! So reasonable!

I'm not really sure that's the impressive concession Robin thinks it is, but there you go.

Winesalot · 17/02/2020 18:25

I know I shouldn't but.... There really seems to be a total disconnect. Not once has it been acknowledged that the statistics quoted of around 1:3000 or 12-20,000 is no where near the Stonewall estimate of 500,000.

It seems to be all about minimisation. Like saying, why is thread even relevant as it is talking about 1 child rapist in a community of x and ignoring any other statistic.

Minimising rapists in female prison - dehumanising female and the minimising the need for safeguarding.

PreseaCombatir · 17/02/2020 18:27

Me rail - genius

I showed it to work colleagues, who were gobsmacked that rapists are actually being giving access to incarcerated women as part of their punishment.

Their jaws remained on the floor when Dawn Butler claimed no one is born with a sex. I take it she is completely ignorant of the tens of millions of sex selected abortions?

Dear lord. It's absolutely insane

EmpressLangClegInChair · 17/02/2020 18:30

Women just aren’t important. It’s exactly the same as Stonewall’s view.

Gibbonsgibbonsgibbons · 17/02/2020 18:32

absolutism' wrt women's spaces excluding all trans women
Nope it’s about women’s spaces excluding males because if they don’t then they’re not women’s spaces any more
HTH Go well

DuLANGMondeFOREVER · 17/02/2020 18:35

I’m guessing Julia found it hard to keep her reaction as small as that smirk, seeing as Nandy was walking right into a very deliberate trap, carefully designed by Julia to illustrate the horrific end consequences of Self ID.

I would’ve probably sprung out of my chair and punched the air, knowing I finally had indisputable proof that politicians have lost their fucking minds.

TinselAngel · 17/02/2020 18:42

Trans individuals like myself have been quietly showing over the last 21 years since we have had a degree of legal protection that we are safe, sane contributors to society

Many of us on the trans widows threads were married to many of you.

(Disclaimer: I am not, not ever have been, married to Robin).

Datun · 17/02/2020 18:42

Exactly. Nandy talked about 'light, not heat', without the smallest inclination of quite how much of a spotlight was being shone on her misogyny which has resulted in the white hot heat of incredulity and outrage.

It's long been noted that one of the characteristics of the trans ideology is that letting it talk for itself is an instant act of self sabotage.

Something that Julia Long leverages effortlessly.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 17/02/2020 18:44

smirked her way through Ms Nandy's answer without apparently paying any attention to it.

She did pay attention to what Nandy said. We all did.

Floisme · 17/02/2020 18:46

I hope though that nobody smirked?

TinselAngel · 17/02/2020 18:47

smirked her way through Ms Nandy's answer

Nasty, rude woman.

b) historically the people we were considering as TW were a group of people who evoked sympathy - think Hailey from Coronation Street type

This. And I think it’s why most people don’t really think it’s an issue. Most TW on TB are portrayed as lovely kind hearted souls or prostitutes that look after other women.

I’m hoping that Nandy comments will make people sit up and think ‘eh? That’s not right’

Bagofoldbones · 17/02/2020 18:54

TV**

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 17/02/2020 18:58

I assume that Nandy would be happy for her trans identifying friend to share a hotel room, with Christopher Worton? After all if her young trans friend who is trying to identify out of their female sex, is magically a man, then they will be safe with a male bodied rapist who, after all is now no longer identifying as a male. The risk to her friend has magically disappeared.

testing987654321 · 17/02/2020 18:59

Having read this it's fascinating how furious women are that male sex offenders can choose to be housed in women's prisons.

Men are offended that we can recognise they aren't women.

My thinking a man isn't a woman ONLY affects his life when he wants to be in women only spaces.

Housing men in women's prisons causes women to be assaulted.

Now why am I not listening to the men?

transdimensional · 17/02/2020 19:01

It's so weird how Nandy started her campaign by saying that Labour has to reconnect with communities, with towns, with popular opinion, and that it has no godgiven right to exist, and so on, and has been trying to appeal to the political centre (accusing her own party of having wanted to nationalise everything and of having had no idea how to pay for its promises) - and yet she comes out with this sort of extremist stuff.

T0tallyFuckedUpFamily · 17/02/2020 19:04

smirked her way through Ms Nandy's answer

I think that was understandable and she did well to prevent herself from laughing out loud.

PurpleCrowbarWhereIsLangCleg · 17/02/2020 19:04

I'm really happy that Robin feels themself to be a productive, 'respectable' member of society, & I hope that continues to work out for Robin.

I still don't want to see Robin in female-reserved spaces, however. & if that's inconvenient for Robin - well, a) they aren't your places & b) please take this up with the absolute insanity currently being proposed. You - maybe - had our reluctant but polite acquiescence to your entry into some female spaces. Now we can see that this inevitably leads to rapists in prison with their victims, amongst other concerns, we are saying NO.

I don't have much time for male bodied people who are deaf to women's NO. They're a problem, because they don't respect boundaries. However nice their self identity might e.

NO. It's a NO.
