Sorry for my fairly lame question to Emily for the webchat tomorrow. Hope you managed to get in better questions?

And that fact they can blithely ignore what women are saying... it's arrogance. MNHQ hasn't helped by deleting pertinent points. How are these people going to understand what is truly felt if they are wrapped in bubble wrap and treated like glass. It's ridiculous.

KatyCarrCan · 05/02/2020 14:25

The irony of any of them saying they will hold Boris to account and challenge the international community when they can't cope with words on a screen. They're all a bunch of bloody charlatans.
It's not that they're frightened of the questions. It's that they don't want the public to know their position because it's ludicrous.
Well done whoever asked the freedom of speech question. Such a shame that she didn't answer it. Or, actually maybe she did. Hurty feelings are more important than freedom of speech. Remind me again, who are the fascists?
Also when did MNHQ start locking webchats? Is it only for these Labour leader ones?

HumphreyCobblers · 05/02/2020 14:25

“Oh you awful feminists, stop bothering the politicians with your strident and annoying questions” is such a great modus operandi for a website called Mumsnet.

BovaryX · 05/02/2020 14:32

Well said. It was Screaming Beans

KatyCarrCan · 05/02/2020 14:36

The thing is it's not just feminists that are concerned about this. That's yet another misjudgment on Labour's part. They think this is a niche concern that lets them win brownie points and funding. They don't realise its impacting people in RL from school toilets to shortlists.

OhGodWhatTheHellNow · 05/02/2020 14:38

Well, I just looked at the webchat and even with not seeing all the deletions, or even any evidence they were ever there, it still is screaming 'not answering' to those questions, you can't miss it.

MNHQ might think there invisibling prevents people identifying which are the big issues being dodged but you would have to be pretty thick to miss Emily's reaction. Another one too frit to say fuck all, which actually tells me all I need to know.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 05/02/2020 14:39

Aaand my post about the David the Dinner Lady is deleted.

snowblight · 05/02/2020 14:39

Mumsnet should probably introduce a separate gender subsection to feminist chat to encourage back those women who don't think feminism is all about one issue.

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 05/02/2020 14:45

Snowblight - have you considered copy and pasting your comment into notepad or word so you have it to hand for every single time you post it? You must be at risk from RSI by now.

SawingForTeens · 05/02/2020 14:58

Sounds like a pet project, Snow. You should approach MN. Don't suggest on here, since we are mere women and must be careful not to ask difficult questions lest we are silenced deleted.

VortexofBloggery · 05/02/2020 15:06

Holy hell. I was not expecting that from her. I wonder who they think is going to support them if they don't change the record?

PenguindreamsofDraco · 05/02/2020 15:09

My post on this thread was deleted, according to the email from MNHQ, because it breached webchat guidelines.

So not only do we have to toe the ever more ridiculous line on what can and cannot be said in FWR, we also, when discussing webchats in another part of the site, have to adhere to those guidelines too.

Sillydoggy · 05/02/2020 15:10

I think there should be a new term for those comments that are not just deleted but actually vanish in a puff of smoke as if they were never there. Erased perhaps?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 15:19

Censored?
Silenced?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 15:24

Yes, I just had the same email, Penguin. With a threat of suspension for persistent offending.

I'm slightly vague on what the offense was - as far as I remember my post said roughly 'Yes, I'd like to hear an answer to Screaming Beans, too'.

MrsSnippyPants · 05/02/2020 15:27

Me too Penguin and Scrimshaw, even though it did not break the guidelines as I was just asking a respectful question about her use of language (as you can see from the screenshot I took).

Not much point arguing is there, when you are threatened with a ban?

But now that is my adblocker on with a vengeance across all platforms that I access Mumsnet on. You can commoditise me, but you can't make me buy stuff.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 15:28

Yes, I've been warned, for thanking Emily Thornberry for her comments and asking her what definition of "woman" she was using.

I'm a bad person, clearly.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 05/02/2020 15:29

MrsSnippyPants, you were actually posting on the webchat thread though.

Scrimshaw and I were posting on this thread, but got deleted for somehow impeding the process of the webchat Hmm

MsMcWibble · 05/02/2020 15:30

The stuff about them not doing further chats is a joke.
I noticed that Kier S screenshot a couple of posts that were complimentary to him and put them on twitter. What a great guy! Winning over the mums!
They will cherry pick our posts and use them to promote themselves.
That's the only reason they are here.
I don't want to be part of this.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 15:31

I didn't realise they were from this thread. That is bad form. (Apologies, I need to concentrate more!)

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 15:37

Ah, no, it was my post on the webchat that was deleted, Penguin. It can't have been up very long.

snowblight · 05/02/2020 15:39

They will cherry pick our posts

They should come here for some tips. This forum is the home of cherry-picking.

MrsWednesdayteatime · 05/02/2020 15:42

So Emily is more concerned about the rights of these two not to be in a men's jail ('cos they're so vulnerable?)

than the welfare of the women they may be locked up with??

Women
Women
Women
Women
It's ok to put women's needs FIRST sometimes.

SawingForTeens · 05/02/2020 15:43

Yes, the posts from the web chat were not deleted-- in that case the posts would still be there, only marked as deleted by Mumsnet. No, we were completely disappeared. Like re-writing history. What does that sound like?

I guess they wouldn't want to ruin a politician's screen shot for twitter

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 15:53

Ohhhhh, I see the difference. Yes, disappeared, like in a puff of smoke. Like we never said anything at all ...
