Sorry for my fairly lame question to Emily for the webchat tomorrow. Hope you managed to get in better questions?

And all the questions asking her to clarify, mentioning feminism, etc, have vanished.

Right, then.

MrsSnippyPants · 05/02/2020 13:32

Quick deletions again, didn't even get a chance to screenshot that comment asking Emily for the definition of 'woman'. Couple of others went as well.

BovaryX · 05/02/2020 13:32

Is Dave the Dinner Lady a recurrent anecdote? You all seem familiar with it....

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 05/02/2020 13:32

It's gone Bovary

SawingForTeens · 05/02/2020 13:34

My response was zapped! Within minutes!

And it was very respectful. THAT is the silencing of women, right there.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 13:36

I didn't get a screenshot of the several follow up questions, either, sorry. Damn. I was so pleased to read them I forgot to screenshot. :(

I'd not heard of Dave the Dinner Lady, Bovary, just dozens of similar stories on the same theme. It's one of those trite morality tales that get trotted out by people who want to avoid answering any of the pertinent questions.

BovaryX · 05/02/2020 13:36

I actually think it's quite shocking that a contender for leader of the opposition can give such a dismissive answer to a question about the existential threat to freedom of speech and the no platforming fanaticism.

MrsSnippyPants · 05/02/2020 13:37

This was what got me deleted

Yep. Labour are over.

Redshoeblueshoe · 05/02/2020 13:37

So don't laugh at David the dinner lady
Ok.
Now I know where she stands

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 13:38

Quick deletions again, didn't even get a chance to screenshot that comment asking Emily for the definition of 'woman'. Couple of others went as well.

The definition one was me, I also said I appreciated her answers being about women, so it was polite and not negative. It was deleted in about a tenth of a second Hmm

Winecheesesleep · 05/02/2020 13:38

I'm really disappointed by the gender identity response. I don't expect everyone to agree on this but it was so simplistic. Just "don't worry dear, everyone just needs to be nicer to each other". For such a big topic on mumsnet I expected more depth even if I didn't like the answer.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 13:38

I didn't think it was just dismissive, Bovary. I read that as supportive of the hate speech laws, so supportive of Harry the Owl getting arrrested for wrongthink, etc. Chilling, really. But here we are.

BovaryX · 05/02/2020 13:38

by people who want to avoid answering any of the pertinent questions

Well said. I have to be honest, I didn't have much time for her before this. And it has confirmed my previous negative assessment....

ScrimshawTheSecond · 05/02/2020 13:38

There are no Labour politicians willing to discuss this topic. Not one.

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 13:39

BUT WE WERE MEAN TO DAVE THE DINNER LADY!

FML.

MrsSnippyPants · 05/02/2020 13:39

Oh ffs, on the question of 'transwomen' in women's prisons, she is all about the 'poor transwomen'. Not a word about women, not a fucking WORD!

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 13:40

"There will be no way that a transwoman could possibly be safe in such an institution. And this is all about safeguarding."

Well fuck me.

Sillydoggy · 05/02/2020 13:40

So it’s all about poor vulnerable trans prisoners , no respect for vulnerable woman at all and no point in posting this comment on that thread.

PenguindreamsofDraco · 05/02/2020 13:41

The emphasis, time and time and time a-bloody-gain, is on the men. Why?

< hits head against wall repeatedly>

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 13:41

Talk about reading the room....

BovaryX · 05/02/2020 13:42

Scrimshaw
That's an excellent point. I also think her assessment of the Brexit vote is deeply flawed. No chance of recouping ex Labour heartlands if the party doesn't understand why they lost them

Sillydoggy · 05/02/2020 13:43

How can she go from her good understanding of women’s issues further up the thread to this complete mess?

WeBuiltCisCityOnSexistRoles · 05/02/2020 13:44

"I hope that I've given an insight into the sort of leader I would be and future PM"

Yes indeed you have. Thank you for that.

midclegs · 05/02/2020 13:44

Bloody hell. For someone sounding so knowledgeable on other subjects she either knows nothing about what is going on or she has drunk the Kool Aid. Not impressed.
