LangCleg

I am a long time lurker but infrequent poster here but I needed to bring this to everyone's attention.
I have found out that Mumsnet HQ have banned the fabulous LangCleg simply for repeatedly pointing out the repeated times coercive control has been used by the moderators to stop women talking.
I understand it started with a conversation when a post was deleted because she allegedly used a sweeping generalisation but they couldn't or wouldn't confirm the generalisation and when she challenged them they decided to ban her on the basis of previous comments.

So it now seems pointing out coercive control is now grounds for being banned, thus proving that coercive control is being used.

I for one would like @MumsnetHQ to provide an explanation here as this is really not on

(also taking bets on how long before the thread is deleted)

Her posts are still up. But she really shouldn't have been banned, it's a bloody shame.

MrsSnippyPants · 21/01/2020 17:25

If anyone is in touch with LangCleg I'm sure ReSisters would be happy to publish any statement she wants to make across their social media channels. Just drop me a DM and we can make it happen asap.

Gertygypsey · 21/01/2020 17:26

Long time lurker. I am already visiting this forum less and less due to the censorship and quashing of debate. I feel that the most insightful and articulate posters are all being banned. I think MNHQ is falling into that space that will end up pleasing no one and everyone will vote with their feet.

Finfintytint · 21/01/2020 17:27

Fuck, have Justine et al drunk the koolaid?

rednsparkley · 21/01/2020 17:28

This is a terrible decision by MNHQ!

Langcleg was the very voice of sanity and reason - and this is probably why she is banned.

Please reconsider this MNHQ, the FWR boards are the only reason I stay here. They have been a haven for me and my family.

RicketyClickety · 21/01/2020 17:28

@MNHQ @JustineMumsnet please reconsider this decision. LangCleg's knowledge and willingness to share her insight is one of the reasons this board has become so important for UK feminism. She is one of the key posters that have been consistently driving significant traffic to your website for years now.

zen1 · 21/01/2020 17:29

So many regular / long-time posters on this board have been banned in the past couple of years. She spoke so much sense. If you’re reading, Lang, your incisive posts will be missed.

MouseandCat · 21/01/2020 17:29

I just want to say too that I think that is appalling. I have often thought with awe how much time LangCleg gives to her contribution and how helpful she always is

stumbledin · 21/01/2020 17:30

Apologies for fake news story about all post being deleted.

Terrible type error. Blush

But still wrong to ban. Why not just delete the supposedly wrongspeak ones.

NoSquirrels · 21/01/2020 17:30

I have started a thread in Site Stuff. I'd love to know how the decision to ban LangCleg was arrived at.

I just cannot imagine how on earth LangCleg could have broken the rules so spectacularly that this is proportionate.

BovaryX · 21/01/2020 17:31

Please reconsider, she has been such an informative and passionate poster. She was lovely to me when I first came on this board and I learned so much from her. Please if anyone is in touch, tell her how much she is missed

InTheWomensRoom · 21/01/2020 17:31

This has finally pushed me into registering after lurking here for I don't know how long, so that I can add my name to this thread and protest against this decision. I've really valued LangCleg's posts and learned so much from her, and her absence will be a real loss.

titchy · 21/01/2020 17:32

Utterly awful. She is hugely impressive with her knowledge of policy, safeguarding and particularly the issues of female prisoners. Respectful but able to get right to the core of the matter with integrity.

Maybe that's the problem...?

HumphreyCobblers · 21/01/2020 17:32

MNHQ. Please think again. This is an awful decision.

dragongirlx · 21/01/2020 17:33

I will pass on the messages of support and your offer MrsSnippyPants but of course the decision to contact anyone will be down to Langcleg herself

Nappyvalley15 · 21/01/2020 17:35

Poor decision MNHQ ☹. Please reinstate her.

Tartyflette · 21/01/2020 17:36

Appalling decision. Lang Cleg spoke truth unto power.

MoltoAgitato · 21/01/2020 17:36

Oh FFS! Mumsnet where’s your courage? She’s one of the most important voices on this site. If you at all believe in the power of Mumsnet, it’s because it gave a voice to Lang and others like her.

scottishbride · 21/01/2020 17:37

This is really something sinister. We really need an explanation

TwoHeadedYellowBelliedHoleDig · 21/01/2020 17:37

That's Not On.

FFSBringbackLangCleg · 21/01/2020 17:38

Just a jolly little post in my new username.

Bloody hell, MNHQ. Whose side are you on?

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 21/01/2020 17:38

Don't know how to quote messages but as Datun says:

"Oh no!! That's terrible news.

Lang was the in-house expert on child safeguarding.

On a parenting website."

This is a seriously bad look. @MNHQ please reconsider this. Over the last 48 hours you have been pretty Orwellian and you are better than this. Justine is better than this.

unwashedanddazed · 21/01/2020 17:39

I rarely post but I read here everyday. Lang, alongside Datun, was the most lucid and informed poster here. I'm appalled she has been banned. It's ridiculous and outrageous.

jamrollyolly · 21/01/2020 17:40

That's terrible news. Mmhq, please reconsider

VinandVigour · 21/01/2020 17:40

Devastated, I always look for LangClegs contributions, as they get right to the nub of the issue.

Lang please find some way of letting us know how you are, and where we can now find your incisive comments.

Where you lead, I will follow!
