Did anyone see Joe Lycett’s programme on channel 4 yesterday. He said about people getting confused between sex and gender, and sex being chromosomes which we can’t change, and gender being all the ‘society-expects’ stuff.

flowery - no, but yesterday read on twitter that Danish tv was doing "10 things you want to leave in the 2010s" and no.8 was 'gender identity' ! Seems a lot of people are thoroughly sick of hearing about it too.

It feels like the tipping point has passed, doesn't it? People are sick of being hectored and bullied in the name of kindness.

Well, this is depressing. I used to be on the periphery of HP fandom, and I've just come across the updated web pages of someone I knew, liked, and used to write with, years ago.

JKR is called transphobic, there's talk of how 'genital preferences' are transphobic, how you don't need to have dysphoria to be trans, and how awful 'TERFs' and 'SWERFs' are.

She, like me, is an autistic woman. Except she's now calling herself a 'demigirl'. I'm guessing she's now in her late twenties or early thirties, so not any type of 'girl', really. But an adult human female. It's as if she didn't think it was possible to be GNC and still be a woman. It makes me feel really sad, because I know we had some of the same struggles in not feeling as if we fit into the world. We've just interpreted them very differently.

I don’t know, don’t follow him on Twitter or anything, so I’m not sure. But in his programme the other day, he definitely made a point about the difference between sex and gender. He said “sex is xx/xy chromosomes”, it’s what you’re born with, not a lot you can do about it, gender is about society and culture”.

He did describe himself as pansexual but frankly I don’t care what people want to identify as, as long as they acknowledge that sex is a thing and you can’t change it.

I dont know anything about this publication, though assume it is American.

Having spent the week or so almost continuously fighting what must be a bot & reliving J K Rowling fair & measured tweet I can only assume twitter are editing content them surely that makes them a media company & not a platform & should be regulated as such? Big Primark on Tottenham Court road had a Harry Potter shop in the shop. Complex response bearing in mind their changing room policy - but I did grin seeing it was HEAVING with shoppers.

There's a Maya/ JK thread on a Buffy forum I post on. A couple of people who have swallowed the Kool aid to an unbearable degree but a heartening number of people can see reason. And it's by no means a feminist leaning forum.
