Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

Well done JK. I must put my Harry Potter themed Christmas decorations up.

I've lost friends over the whole TWAW thing too. And they are (were?) big Harry Potter fans. I wonder what they're thinking?

Poor JK will be cancelled on Tumblr. Whatever will she do?

pemberlyshades · 19/12/2019 15:18

Best Christmas present for rad fems and gender critical people EVER!!!!

Thanks Jo! You would sooooo be in gryfindor!!!!

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/12/2019 15:19

They are frothing like mad on twitter but the likes on the tweet are currently just under 28K in 2 hours.

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 19/12/2019 15:19

In response to this, "trans rights are human rights" hashtag has started trending so I took a look...I'm not articulate enough to express how baffling it feels to see JKR's tolerant words retweeted over and over attached to comments calling her a T**f, transphobic, "vile shit head", that she's spreading "vitriol and hatred", "bigoted crap" and "trash opinions". There is absolutely no self-awareness there whatsoever. They've convinced themselves so readily that words mean whatever they want them to mean that they genuinely can't see the irony in screaming invective at her measured message.

Note to the monitors and mods: use of the collective 'they/them' refers to Twitter users sharing the hashtag, no more and no less.

"The thing is it helps when people stand up to them. It gives everyone hope"
(As said by Neville Longbottom)
Thanks JKR

JustHereWithMyPopcorn · 19/12/2019 15:20

Lots of silent supporters not wanting to get into a word salad argument with the frothers.

Lifeinthelastlane · 19/12/2019 15:22

Well there are over 5000 responses to her tweet so I'm guessing she doesn't even try to read them (I hope so anyway)

nauticant · 19/12/2019 15:23

From the Kirkup link above:

I do not underestimate the courage it has taken for Rowling to do this. It’s easy to say ‘well, she’s got billions and a huge platform – what took her so long?’ but I think that’s unfair. With that fame comes pressure and scrutiny that the rest of us cannot imagine. By entering this arena, she is exposing herself to significant risks, volumes of criticism beyond anything most of humanity will ever experience. I applaud her.

re: jk rowling
people who purposefully misgender trans people should have a fate far, far worse than being fired, and that miserable little bastard maya was let off easy. purposeful misgendering is an act of verbal violence and should be treated as such.

... obviously an ideology based on rationality and tolerance, and not remotely batshit. Confused

TiredofthisBS · 19/12/2019 15:24

The more they attack her the more light it shines on the whole ideology. That she is getting extraordinary amounts of abuse for something quite mild just shows that it is a bunch of people who want to bully.

Devereux1 · 19/12/2019 15:25

JK and Maya - if you are reading this - there will be many real women like me, working high up in industry who agree with and support you. I know I daren't say anything about this, or tweet in support, otherwise I'd be sacked.

We are 100% behind you.

Yes!

JK once said in an interview that she admired bravery most - I don't think she's going to take this down, or blame fat fingers.

Sotiredofthislife · 19/12/2019 15:26

Well done, JK! So pleased there are people out there with influence that understand this issue.

Northernlurker · 19/12/2019 15:27

Well I'm at home today as had new floor - so time to join the twitter thing....

I think Boris Johnson just missed an opportunity to touch base with real people. You know, not the regressive left and their cohorts of woke wankery, by being GC in the Queens speech.
I very much hope I'm wrong but I will be amazed if Rowling doesn't fold when the shit hits the fan for her over the next week or so.
Fingers crossed. 😁🤞

ChessIsAsBoringAsCricket · 19/12/2019 15:28

Thank you JK, I think what you have done is amazing. What you said could not have been more fair, but the responses are filled with rage and vitriol. But this exposes the whole thing to sunlight. The more hateful the replies, and they are awful, some of them, there are some very unpleasant keyboard warriors on there, the more people see this they will see that there is much more going on here than they originally thought. People are starting to see what is going on at last. And thank you to Maya too.

GruciusMalfoy · 19/12/2019 15:29

I am pleased to see her tweet, I only hope that her stepping forward will encourage other high profile people to do the same. She knows she is in a privileged position to do this. The scales will tip at some point, common sense has to prevail... the replies to Rowling's tweet read like a toddler stamping their feet in temper.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/12/2019 15:32

Apparently Twitter have skewed the trending results to show JK Rowling Terf instead of #IStandWithMaya.

This is what we're up against.

To paraphrase, 'if you want to understand who has the power, think of whom you can't criticise.'

Thank you J.K Rowling!

TheGirlWhoLived · 19/12/2019 15:34

Awesome tweet JK. Really hope this encourages more to speak out

BlaueLagune · 19/12/2019 15:35

This is a very measured, and well written blog post on the case:

rangeofreasonableresponses.com/2019/12/19/forstater-v-cgd-europe-what-the-tribunal-actually-found/

SkaraBrae · 19/12/2019 15:35

It's incredible how any discussion on sex and gender is immediately shut down as 'transphobic'.
There's a post on Celebitchy (an American right-on gossip, and increasingly political blog) about JK Rowling being a TERF and transphobic.

The only 2 comments (including mine) arguing about a difference in gender and sex, and asking why recognising the physical differences between trans and women was bigoted were just deleted. Hmm

breakfastpizza · 19/12/2019 15:38

My fave responses are Trans fans screeching about how much the Trans community has done to popularise Harry Potter.

Yes, it's all down to you, TRAs... Grin

SkaraBrae · 19/12/2019 15:39

I just ventured on Twitter.
Someone posted that JK Rowling had gone 'full Mumsnet'. Grin
