Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

The GC movement in the UK has been led by women, often with left-wing campaigning backgrounds. In the US it has been led by the Christian right.

WoLF would beg to differ.

Also, the Christian right is not gender critical. They love gender. They just think the sexes need to stick to their traditionally prescribed genders. Only feminists criticize gender and reject it as a restrictive and damaging set of expectations.

I wonder what it means to have one’s identity compromised?

Maybe it's like when your husband suddenly identifies as a woman so apparently you're a lesbian?

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 20/12/2019 13:14

The 'compromised identity' tweet is interesting. It's as though they think this is about women ring-fencing dresses and lipstick and toilets because if they let men in, then women lose their specialness. They honestly think people care about their 'identities' and we're just being big meanie-beanies who won't share. When actually it's the opposite of that. We don't care what they identify as or what they wear.
Her identity may not have been 'compromised' but her legal rights are being compromised and eroded all the bloody time. And the irony, or tragedy is, that at some point they're going to realise how much they've given away and then they'll blame it on the older generation Hmm

LangCleg · 20/12/2019 13:15

They’re not even fun to play with really

This is so true. Sanctimony is dull, dull, dull.

Newuser123123 · 20/12/2019 13:20

Not for the faint hearted but right wing YouTuber Carl Benjamin (he of vile threats to Jess Phillips fame) has a video on this. It's interesting that a self - described 'anti-feminist' is in agreement with this.

SophoclesTheFox · 20/12/2019 13:20

the whole “cis white women don’t get sacked” is the best encapsulation of the problem i’ve seen.

“Cis” white women very very much still do get routinely sacked every fucking day in the UK and the US alike when they get pregnant.

but if men can get pregnant, and womanhood has nothing to do with biology, then abracadabra, the sexism of discrimination in pregnancy just disappears, et voila! the only discrimination possible is discrimination against trans people.

Haworthia · 20/12/2019 13:26

I think maybe having one’s identity compromised is the same as having one’s humanity denied, which is another act of literal violence I hear about a lot on Twitter but don’t fully understand 🤷‍♀️

DodoPatrol · 20/12/2019 13:28

cis white women don’t get sacked

So Maya is just identifying as sacked, then?

Devereux1 · 20/12/2019 13:30

Can't someone compromise their own identity?

Surely transitioning in the first place is doing exactly that. Transitioning, identifying as something different to what you biologically are etc, is doing precisely that?

"I was born a man. I can be identified by that. I have a dysphoria/fetish where I believe I am a woman. My mental condition is thereby compromising my identity from the outset."

IfNot · 20/12/2019 13:33

Nooo I love Joanne Harris books. She seems really clever so I'm surprised.

fuckitywhy · 20/12/2019 13:38

I wonder if there's a link between intelligence and questioning this stuff.

Devereux1 · 20/12/2019 13:39

I wonder if there's a link between intelligence and questioning this stuff.

Undoubtedly. But like Flynn's work, there'd be outrage in talking about it.

IfNot · 20/12/2019 13:39

I wonder why the tra bots never question why "transitioning" seems to be something either middle aged men or very young girls do. Like, where are the middle aged women suddenly realising they are born in the wrong body? Actually it would make much more sense for middle aged women to decide to be men. Ageism in the workplace is a real problem for women. Why are we not all deciding to become men, opting out of stalled careers, caring for the elderly, going through menopause and organising Xmas?
When the time comes my pronouns will be He/Him/Mister.

ARoombaOfOnesOwn · 20/12/2019 13:40

Is Nicola Coughlan an undercover police officer, or an MI5 agent or something? I genuinely don’t know else your identity can be compromised.

KizzyWayfarer · 20/12/2019 13:42

To clarify my question earlier, was it just this Gregor Murray who complained of being misgendered by Maya or was there an actual trans colleague of hers who also complained? I thought someone here might know without digging through old threads. wingsoverscotland.com/the-abolition-of-sanity-part-2/

DodoPatrol · 20/12/2019 13:44

why "transitioning" seems to be something either middle aged men or very young girls do

It's not entirely, is it? There are quite a few young males identifying as transgirls.

But in answer to the question, I'm starting to think that teenage girls are trying to identify out of being seen as sex objects, and middle aged chaps are trying to identify into it.

CatInTheDaytime · 20/12/2019 13:44

14 year old DD told me today that JK Rowling is now requiring children who want to register on the Pottermore website ( to find out your Hogwarts house) to post a photo of their genitals to determine their "gender". She read it online so it was true.

Yes because there's no way anyone could get around that requirement is there? Hmm

I mean obviously it's made up but even as a thing to make up, it makes no sense.

This is what I find so striking about so many trans activists. As well as having no sense of humour, they make no sense. It's like small children who will insist they didn't eat the chocolate while it's smeared around their mouth. Reality doesn't matter, just how vehement you are.

They have got used to being able to control a lot of media and organisations as well as colleagues, friends etc by using the threat of being called a transphobe to silence people. They don't have meaningful arguments that relate to reality or logic. So as soon as people stand up to them, their stance just collapses into raging and self-pity, like a classic narcissist.

BoreOfWhabylon

*Stephen King has tweeted "I agree".

He hasn't stated who he agrees with yet.*

He apologised and deleted, apparently thought he was commenting on a Cats Musical trailer...

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 13:47

Lots of spineless cowards.

CatInTheDaytime · 20/12/2019 13:48

And as for JK, I defend her right to exist as a human being, independently of a world and some characters she created. People are acting as if she IS HP and that's all she is, and by daring to have an opinion that you can't find somewhere in HP or didn't think HP represented, she's committed some kind of enormous fraud. No, she's an adult human female and a writer, who can have an opinion without it being tied up with her past works.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 20/12/2019 13:48

He apologised and deleted, apparently thought he was commenting on a Cats Musical trailer...

You'd think a fiction writer could come up with a better lie. Hmm

BuzzShitbagBobbly · 20/12/2019 13:51

Mark Hamill works for Disney atm so I'm not surprised

This came out last night. I note the author has managed to deftly infer Disney are against JK by linking to a completely unofficial account but which looks convincing enough at quick glance.

He's also generally full of other shitty comparisons, but tbh, I thought better of Fast Co than this. I suspect the issue has been woke-washed to a point where nobody could object.

FloralBunting · 20/12/2019 13:53

Good grief, the bare faced lies people are telling about Maya. I'm, as ever, just baffled by the dimwits who actually think you can change sex, but the shit stirrers who are making up total lies about Maya harassing a colleague and refusing to use particular pronouns are enraging.

Pro tip: if you have to make shit up to win your point, you don't win anything at all, you fucking moral vacuums.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 13:55

I quite like Dean Caine who used to play Superman, he admitted to voting for trump even though he knew it would end his relationship with the CW network.
Nothing to do with this other than he's one of the few celebrities who doesn't fold under an onslaught.

CaptainKirksSpikeyGhost · 20/12/2019 13:56

It's very rare these days for people to stand up for their right to freedom of expression.
