Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

@ACouchOfOnesOwn does that mean Bannatynes gyms are still a safe space for us then?

Mark Hamill works for Disney atm so I'm not surprised.

FilthyBiscuit · 20/12/2019 12:30

I have also had a conversation today with someone who was in the "be nice" camp who has seen the controversy today and realised she is also GC. Congratulations JK and please don't rescind your tweet!

No self awareness

I’m having fun on Twitter, but the nonsense spouted by people certainly intelligent enough to know better is discouraging.

I can’t help but think the outpouring of outrage is the anger of the young, already enraged and afraid of the state of the world they’re inheriting.

In many ways JK Rowling nurtured them, and now their sad, fractured spirits are turning on the mother who betrayed them.

Of course, their narcissistic fury, no matter their angst, is no excuse for a lack of critical thinking or capacity to reason.

They’re not even fun to play with really, they have no arguments, no wit, no repartee and certainly no jokes.

Waspnest · 20/12/2019 12:45

Mark Hamil's feed is an interesting one. A huge majority of his followers seem sane and are slagging off the poster who called MH out on his like and a few are saying don't apologise, you're entitled to your view. I'm sure that will change when the TRAs pile on. It'll be interesting to see how this plays with Star Wars fans.

Annasgirl · 20/12/2019 12:46

Whew, I see you all saw the Mark Hamill twattery - I'm not on the misogynistic Twitter so I rely on here and the old world media to keep me posted but really - what a coward. And as for Patricia Arquette - I never really thought those Arquettes were exactly high in the IQ stakes, but just because you know a person who is trans does not mean you need to believe XY can change into XX.

I'm losing patience with it all now - and as for that judge (how in all that is holy can a person have the intellect to become a judge and then believe that you can change sex???????).

Kit19 · 20/12/2019 12:47

@DancelikeEmmaGoldman I really think you are on to something there. Leaving aside the hardcore MRA who just LOVE they can scream cunt at women with impunity once the word has decreed them TERF, most of this is coming from the young and I do think it is tied in with their fear of what is happening in the world.

It doenst excuse it at all but I do understand with climate change, the rise of the right in Europe and South America, Trump, Brexit etc etc I think they are full of rage and fear and screaming at this because all they see is "be kind, what harmj does it do, its just another example of adults being awful"

You cant argue with them because they're not interested in hearing any arguments or facts that dont support their world view. Theyve been completely tumblerised

what I find far more disturbing is the many many 'old enough to know better' who have facilited the capture of the entire public sector by TRA and Stonewall law

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 20/12/2019 12:49

Certainly those 'Harry Potter and the transphobe's stone' tweets are not even clever and left me thinking 'is that the best you can do?'

Findumdum1 · 20/12/2019 12:49

What trans person has ever been denied housing or even a job because they are trans. Honestly. Every company including housing associations bends over backwards to be inclusive, there's no way that has ever happened anywhere, ever.

I suspect a lot of these woke "folks" are going down the Ali G "is it cos I is" route when they have difficulties in life - easy to blame something irrelevant but obvious like gender identity or whatever its called now.

bellinisurge · 20/12/2019 12:51

@fuckitywhy , I was wondering about Emma Watson too.

Torchlightt · 20/12/2019 12:53

14 year old DD told me today that JK Rowling is now requiring children who want to register on the Pottermore website ( to find out your Hogwarts house) to post a photo of their genitals to determine their "gender". She read it online so it was true. I was really disappointed in her, and we've had a long talk about critical thinking and trans issues.

Haworthia · 20/12/2019 12:54

Apparently this tweet is a mic drop moment.

A self styled cis woman declares she’s never had her “identity compromised” by a trans or enby person.

I wonder what it means to have one’s identity compromised? I’m guessing it has nothing to do with credit card fraud.

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 20/12/2019 12:54

@Scarscar I think so. Here are some of his tweets about it.

There definitely seems to be a widespread belief that Maya was sacked for harassing a trans colleague and refusing to use chosen pronouns. What actually went on with the colleague and is it right that they are someone who has previous form for targeting women?

It's not true. Here is her witness statement.

If you search on her name and thread titles, you will see two or three threads taking you through the story from the beginning. You will also see all the attempts to shut her up, in real time.

What trans person has ever been denied housing or even a job because they are trans.

In the past, certainly. I don’t think so in the last 10 years.

There is some genuine dreadful transphobia out there. There was a trans woman on a quiz show a while ago and the Twitter comments were disgusting.

YourOpinionIsNoted · 20/12/2019 12:57

Oh dear, Torch. I think I would have struggled to say anything more polite than "what holy fucking bullshit are you spouting now?" in response to that one. Prob not the best thing for the mother-daughter relationship Grin

YouJustDoYou · 20/12/2019 12:58

I wonder what it means to have one’s identity compromised? I’m guessing it has nothing to do with credit card fraud

I thought the same.

Devereux1 · 20/12/2019 13:01

I wonder what it means to have one’s identity compromised?

God knows. The only bit of that tweet that made any grammatical, logical or sane sense was "just gonna pop my head in".

When she removes it from her backside, she might begin to start making more sense.

Needmoresleep · 20/12/2019 13:02

The GC movement in the UK has been led by women, often with left-wing campaigning backgrounds. In the US it has been led by the Christian right.

The US seems much more divided than the UK. Lots of things can be ignored because they are supported by the Trump voting right. No need to thing or debate. Though perhaps part of the reason people sick of the luvvie wokery voted Trump.

Mainstream/left of centre people, with strong followings in the US, like Martina N and JKR are hugely important. This may be the first time Mark Hamill has seen a reasonable argument deluged in hate. Maya lost her job for speaking up. Mark is more than aware he could. But he and others will take note, and the more people who feel able to speak up, especially on consent and safeguarding issues, the closer sensible people are to demanding proper research and debate.

David Baddiel is getting rather piled on, even though his defence of JRK was very mild (from a free speech perspective)
People are telling him that Maya is a bully etc, etc.

Joanne Harris is totally with the TRA's.

Scarscar · 20/12/2019 13:06

@ACouchOfOnesOwn thanks for that, worth knowing. I won't go anywhere I'm not safe in a changing room.

HugsAreMyDrugs · 20/12/2019 13:09

Yes! I knew she would speak out eventually!
I am glad to see the tweet is still there so hopefully she doesn't back down 🤞

KettlePolly · 20/12/2019 13:12

If you feel obligated to add Cis to your sex then your identity has actually been compromised.
