Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

I hope she’s treating the twitter storm exactly as it deserves to be treated- as a silly storm in a teacup. Which it is really - I’m as heartened as the next woman that she has the courage to do this, it really has helped perk me up after feeling quite down about the ruling yesterday. But Twitter is not the real world.

I hope she’s scrolling through her feed with a cup of tea and a hobnob, laughing herself silly at self important people telling her how awful she is. Then reporting the fuck out every single threat and making the wokerati at Twitter dance a merry dance for her.

Lamahaha · 20/12/2019 06:43

Haha. Remember that online reading group I posted about upthread? Well, I reported it to admin for deletion, but in the meantime had a really jolly time arguing basic points with several members. Even the OP, I believe, was not really woke but simply following the normal US "be kind and inclusive to everyone" line. Eventually the thread WAS deleted, as it should be as it contravened the book club rules against political posts, but it was good to "come out" in a protected area! I think it is mostly US members there, so that was very refreshing. Sunlight!

In other news, some of my very woke American FB friends are finally commenting. It's amazing how they have all ignored the many rays of sunlight penetrating the TRA universe of late. But my very wokest friend -- a person whom I always respected, who is very clever, an atheist, very vocally anti-Trump etc etc, said this, among other things, about JK:

I think in this case, it's just basic ignorance. She does not understand either biology or gender.

And I am not defending her. Given that this is not the first time she's been called out, and especially given her resources as to time, money and access, there is no excuse for her to remain this ignorant.

Oh, the condescension!

Verdict: JK is not a nice person any more. Boohoo., and I will always stand by my trans friends.

TiredofthisBS · 20/12/2019 06:45

It'll ramp up but I get the feeling it's all about to implode.

I don't see why she should care in the slightest what a bunch of Twitter fools think. I certainly wouldn't, I'd just laugh at themGrin

2BthatUnnoticed · 20/12/2019 07:07

This is what well meaning “c*swomen” allies low key endorse, when they call other women “transphobic” et al.

Be strong, JK ⭐️

That Vox article has been updated...the first edition misgendered Murray by referring to Murray as a transman, not as NB.

When even the wokey folkey can’t get it right, what chance do the rest of us have?

OnlyTheTitOfTheIceberg · 20/12/2019 07:19

(And yes, I do mean transman not TW - I cant find the tweet now that shared the first draft but Burns definitely referred to Murray as “a specific transman”.)

RoyalCorgi · 20/12/2019 07:19

With every acknowledgement of how awful this whole business has been for Maya, I can't help feeling that Maya losing her case is the best thing that's happened to the gc cause. Finally, sunlight. People waking up to what's going on. JK Rowling alerting her 14 million followers to the authoritarian demands of trans activism. People will see tweets like those that 2BthatUnnoticed has posted and ask themselves whether this is really the side they want to be on.

I can understand why people are worried about Rowling - I am too. But ever since Harry Potter was published, she's had to put up with extremists in the US banning her books and accusing her of peddling witchcraft. She's strong enough to weather it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 20/12/2019 07:23

At 135K likes this morning. Vastly outnumbering the comments. This cheers me greatly. DC are huge HP fans, my Christmas twitch might involve a bit more HP merch!

NotAssigned · 20/12/2019 07:25

So Mark Hamill (I'd never heard of him) unlikes the tweet and apologises. Speculation that many people liking the tweet don't understand it.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 20/12/2019 07:27

Speculation that many people liking the tweet don't understand it

Or someone has had a go at him

bellinisurge · 20/12/2019 07:29

Mark Hamill is Luke Skywalker. Big anti-Trump voice on Twitter.

Kit19 · 20/12/2019 07:30

I have to say I’m finding this so awful. People screaming vitriol, so much abuse, real life friends falling out, endless hatred being spewed.

I know it’s shining a light on how bad things have got & that is good. So few people had actually realised what has been going on and how much nonsense had crept in under the radar but honestly following on from brexit & the election, I’m really struggling to deal with it

bellinisurge · 20/12/2019 07:32

Funny reading the Guardian articles - the paper ignored the story last night. They don't know what to say.
Also on Radio 4 this morning. Will listen on catch up.

shedquarters · 20/12/2019 07:32

Love the HP books and her others. Always had the greatest respect for JKR, now even more so. This feels like a game changer.

TiredofthisBS · 20/12/2019 07:35

I thought Luke Skywalker stood up to the might of the empire because he believed what was right. Very disappointed in you Mark Hamill.

fuckitywhy · 20/12/2019 07:46

Makes sense to me. Mark is a Hollywood left-wing actor who has finally been getting some solid adoration and attention from the internet fanbase in recent years. The last Star Wars film has just been released. This is their last shining moment in the franchise.

Even if by some bizarre chance he wasn't enmeshed in TRA ideology, he'd be daft to do anything other than apologise and grovel right now.

DickKerrLadies · 20/12/2019 07:49

The TRAs have gone full Umbridge haven't they?!

Book burning - from the people who identify as the Left!

HandsOffMyRights · 20/12/2019 07:55

Oh yes DickKerr Umbridge would be proud.

GlitchStitch · 20/12/2019 08:05

Patricia Arquette's sister recently tweeted a grovelling apology and her shame at the crime of having being born white. Sunday lunch in their family must be a right barrel of laughs.

Patricia Arquette's brother detransitioned back to a man at the end of a very troubled trans life.

www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/final-days-alexis-arquette-a-928507

Arquette began presenting herself as a man again, telling Ibrahim that "'gender is bullshit.' That 'putting on a dress doesn't biologically change anything. Nor does a sex-change.' She said that 'sex-reassignment is physically impossible. All you can do is adopt these superficial characteristics but the biology will never change.'" That realization, Ibrahim suspects, was the likely source of her deep wells of emotional torment.

JacobReesClunge · 20/12/2019 08:17

It's so funny watching them all fulminate over a woman they literally can't touch.

AbsintheFriends · 20/12/2019 08:38

I'm another one appreciating this convenient twitter sorting hat method of seeing which of my friends, work contacts and acquaintances are sensible types and which have been woke captured.

Enjoyed this thread, retweeted by someone I don't know well through work, but will now seek out more.
