Walliams didn't tweet, he posted a picture of himself and Rowling on Insta. Most comments are fangirling/fanboying, but there are a couple of threaded comments calling her nasty names and someone told him he was on the wrong side of history etc.
Mariel, for what it's worth, I get how horrible this is. A woman has tweeted a liberal, kind sentiment about everyone being free and safe, and said that sex is real, and there are rather a lot of frothing nutcases ranting really, really nasty things at her, many of them jawdroppingly misogynistic.
We've, many of us, been at this a while, and I don't think it ever gets easier to read that level of genuine viciousness, but we've learned, I think, that their hate filled rants are the seeds of a fresh new crop of newly stunned people wondering what the hell is going on - which is evidenced not just by that climbing like-count, but the people who have chosen to retweet, use the Maya hashtag and finally speak up about this.
I'm sure JK isn't teflon coated, and none of us are either, and so many of us have faced down the invective of TRAs - I've been called a child abuser on FWR, and had threats on other websites. It is awful. But we are still standing, we are still pushing. This morning, I was about as depressed as I have been for years, completely cried out. This evening, it feels like it was darkest before the dawn.
Much still to do. But hope is a bloody marvel. Head up. Arms together. Keep on. xx
