I have a somewhat famous person following me on Twitter. Kinda had a crush in my younger days so this was rather thrilling (although I imagine he’s following due to my political allegiances rather than my witty repartee and stunning good looks).

Imagine how fucking GUTTED I was to learn he is a fully signed-up, woketastic, koolaid-drinking twat. Apparently so badly affected by JK Rowling’s ‘bigotry’ that he needs a night off Twitter. 🙄

I really want to unfollow him now but he’s my only vaguely famous follower.

They apparently like to call them vile bigots, Nazis and murderers. The level of rage is very odd to watch.

I'm obviously not talking about those people. I'm talking about people who have not yet been pk trnsd (I don't think we're allowed to use that term anymore).
Anyone who says the thing you suggested is clearly a misogynist, I'm referring to those who are basically decent people but have not realised what's going on yet, and who usually support minorities in their struggles.

Butchyrestingface Ask him what he objects to. Does he think all women should therefore lose their jobs if they don't believe people can change sex? Can he then explain how people can actually change sex? Once these people are asked to clarify their stance they have nothing.

I sat and scrolled through the Twitter thread and can't feel as upbeat about this as many PPs on this thread. Just look at the abuse she's getting. It was a short, calm, measured tweet and the tsunami of invective being levelled at her is completely disproportionate to any perceived slight about 'invalidation'.

What earthly chance do ordinary women have against this tide of increasingly legitimized misogyny? As a former rape victim, I'm left feeling particularly dispirited at the disgusting comments made about me and others like me. Now that is what really qualifies as harmful language, athough I'm stopping far short of the ridiculous claim that it amounts to anything like 'literal violence'. Believe me, I know the difference.

The whole shitstorm leaves me feeling profoundly depressed.

ArranUpsideDown i think that the current level of deference applied to scientists which used to be given to the clergy isn't good for any of us, no doubt Yong is a gifted scientist, but if scientists were not pushing this shit with their level of power in the world community we wouldn't even be here - the law followed the 'experts' who were positioning it as fact, that's not all scientists but it was enough.

If Academics ( after all identity politics originated in American culture and academia) hadn't supported it, or Scientists, or Law makers it wouldn't be so out of control.

@MarieIVanArkleStinks it isn't pleasant reading some of the vile replies she is getting. But when I see the number of likes, and that is only the people who are in a position where they feel brave enough to risk it, I am encouraged that actually there is a much larger majority of people who understand the difference between sex and gender. Remember a lot of people are afraid of repercussions of even liking a post that recognises biological sex so the fact it's reaching 105k plus is a sight to behold.
Still a long way to go but as long as JKR stands her ground I feel the tide is starting to turn.
