Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

I liked the Casual Vacancy too. Imagine being able to write successfully in so many genres.

Yes, me too. I also loved the BBC drama of it, even though they changed a lot of it, I thought it was done really well, with so many fine actors. Loved it - even bought it on Amazon. I don't think there's much I haven't already already bought of JK's - I am already a superfan.

This JK interview about Harry Potter always makes me tearful - talking about women, and the power of motherhood, running as a theme throughout the books.

Let's face it, the TRAs had enough to hate her before she ever sent that tweet.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/12/2019 22:17

JK is educating all about the misogyny of TERF:

I will be donating to Lumos too.

ritzbiscuits · 19/12/2019 22:24

I think Twitter is going to implode tonight, reading the abuse she's getting!

Absolutely fantastic JK, thanks for speaking up!

theflushedzebra · 19/12/2019 22:25

I hope JK knows how many women (and men!) support her Thanks

FloralBunting · 19/12/2019 22:26

I know I'm not here anymore, but I'm roaring xmas drunk this evening and I'm watching all these people finally speaking up after all this oppressive bullshit, and I am fucking elated and wanted to celebrate with my sisters.

God bless us, everyone!Xmas Grin

pemberlyshades · 19/12/2019 22:28

ArranUpsideDown · 19/12/2019 22:29

I deeply admire Ed Yong (science writer). I'm more distressed than I can say to see he has retweeted a piece referring to JKR and British culture in general (he's British) as transphobic:

twitter.com/transscribe/status/1207756548321284097

It's the more disappointing as his pinned tweet is:

Sing like no one is listening.
Love like you’ve never been hurt.
Dance like nobody’s watching.
Read the fucking article.

PS Ed is a very gifted science writer.

Merry Christmas Floral!

theflushedzebra · 19/12/2019 22:32

My god, I think she's broken twitter, the twets aren't loading under her post now Grin Star

nauticant · 19/12/2019 22:32

I feel your pain ArranUpsideDown but sadly the younger sci-fi and fantasy authors are among the wokest of the woke.

Loads of transhumanism, very little critical thinking.

UpfieldHatesWomen · 19/12/2019 22:33

Just had a look at Jameela Jamil's Twitter. There needs to be a noun for woke verbal diarrhoea. Does anyone else feel like the world's been taken over by all the people who weren't very bright at school but still somehow managed to be prefects, probably cos the headteachers knew they'd absolutely love telling everyone else what to do. According to Jameela, JK's crime is that she's white, 'c*s' ie. not a trans identifying male, and a self-made billionaire. It's such a disgusting attack on JK Rowling for things she, in the first two instances, has no control over, and in the third is due to her talent, hard work and tenacity. I cannot fathom how this woman can call herself a feminist and then insult someone for being a woman - no need for 'cis' Jameela, she's a woman, that's what you're getting at. Also, what's her being white got to do with absolutely anything?! Does she know nothing about JK's background?! I'd like her to actually commit and say that she thinks women should lose their jobs if they don't submit to the belief in gendered souls. That's what she's supporting, she should clarify her stance, make her case for women being sacked over this.

Woman state another woman shouldn’t be sacked for stating a scientific fact. Response overwhelmingly that she hates trans people. The leap is so huge to get from what she’s tweeted to what she’s being accused of it’s almost as if people have been waiting a long time to tell her exactly what they think of her...

nauticant · 19/12/2019 22:38

You wait till everything's run by people who are brilliant at manipulating social media to become most popular but have very few positive attributes beyond that.

My god. If I were Maya I’d be pleased but also horrified. She surely doesn’t want to be a worldwide news story. I’d also be feeling a little exposed if I were the judge. Pretty poor quality work there - now being raked over internationally.

!It’s quite humbling what reach JK has. It’s great that she’s on the side of sanity but what if she wasn’t ? Twitter and its ilk has made us all lose our minds - a very few words from a very famous woman somehow change the terms of a debate internationally? When that debate is actually about something so banal and ordinary - that men are not women - that a small child could argue the case. We really are little more than medieval peasants looking for signs from on high.*

This is sort of how I'm feeling. Perhaps slightly apprehensive/frustrated because so many people I follow, who I normally respect, are joining the "TERF!" thoughtless pile-on.

OverByYer · 19/12/2019 22:41

Thank you JK!

Binterested · 19/12/2019 22:42

That’s such an interesting interview with JK. And love Julie saying that rage comes from her womb. TRAs won’t like that sort of talk. Although I guess in this case her womb does cause literal violence Grin

breakfastpizza · 19/12/2019 22:43

The Harry Potter subreddit has a megathread about her tweet. The usual TRAs are flooding in, but some measured responses too: www.reddit.com/r/harrypotter/comments/ecxcy3/jk_rowling_tweet_megathread/fbenu02/

fuckitywhy · 19/12/2019 22:44

Can't believe the howls over on twitter. The brainwashing is chilling to see. They really 100% believe that people can change sex don't they?

Lumene · 19/12/2019 22:44

You wait till everything's run by people who are brilliant at manipulating social media to become most popular but have very few positive attributes beyond that.

Gonna be a while judging by the last set of election results.

anomoony · 19/12/2019 22:45

British culture in general (he's British) as transphobic

I'm seeing "OMG Europeans are so transphobic, how can we educate them" from the crowd across the pond

Tocopherol · 19/12/2019 22:45

JJ has taken a break from banging on about sex work being decriminalised (not sure which country she means? USA? Or does she think it's illegal here? Or does she just really love the idea of brothel owners making more money? Who knows!?) making comments about "cis white billionaires" being uncancellable.
