Dress however you please.
Call yourself whatever you like.
Sleep with any consenting adult who’ll have you.
Live your best life in peace and security.
But force women out of their jobs for stating that sex is real?

Although she does have a habit of some bad dangling modifiers and clunky sentences where she rewords them so they don’t end with a preposition “The stairs up with which she went” being a painful example, but for the characters of Strike and Robyn and her tweet today I’ll forgive her anything.

Binterested · 19/12/2019 21:04

dotcom that is horrific. Just when I think I’m as disgusted as I can be by this woman-hating ideology something else comes along and repels me just a little bit more.

Also I’m just feeling so impatient and frustrated. Once you’ve see it you can’t unsee it. Come on people !

lydiamajora · 19/12/2019 21:05

I'm so happy that JK has finally outed herself - I am of the "Harry Potter" generation and, not gonna lie, it would have gutted me if she had come out on the side of wishful thinking.

TiredofthisBS · 19/12/2019 21:05

It's the melodramatic hyperbole that gets me. Amnesty, HRC, Vox, the endless stream of screaming from the blue haired wokey fokey. It's the most awful, terrible thing ever that women want to assert our rights. I hope it catches up with them one day.

Wine Brave woman, nothing but respect for her. So grateful that someone with her profile has made her voice heard, this will embolden others.

merrymouse · 19/12/2019 21:07

she absolutely gets gendered violence and how it affects women.

I think she knows exactly the kind of man who would try to use the law to abuse women, and exactly the level of privilege and naivety you need to suggest that that we just need more 'risk assessments'.

TiredofthisBS · 19/12/2019 21:07

Folkey. Apologies I'm extremely tired!

PenguindreamsofDraco · 19/12/2019 21:07

God I would give virtually anything for JKR to reply to Maugham's pompous tweet with a simple "tut".

(And if you're reading JKR, there'd certainly be a decent donation to Lumos if this happened Grin. And thank you)

theflushedzebra · 19/12/2019 21:11

Another one offering re-education to JK, because she hasn't been suitably brainwashed into denying biological sex exists yet. According to this, she's refused her re-education program Grin

This has made my fucking month.

Just bought Harry Potter on amazon as a small thank-you. Grin

nauticant · 19/12/2019 21:15

JK Rowling's likes have now reached the level of Maya's crowdfunded £s.

ACouchOfOnesOwn · 19/12/2019 21:16

I see Lawrence Fox has tweeted #IStandWithMaya too . . .how wonderful would it be if this just keeps growing and growing. They can't sack and cancel everyone.

Currently the most shared story in the Guardian: www.theguardian.com/books/2019/dec/19/jk-rowling-trans-row-court-ruling-twitter-maya-forstater

Datun · 19/12/2019 21:18

A main character is a rape survivor and she shows how it has long reaching affects on the character’s life including dropping out of university, other life decisions and PTSD panic attacks years after the event.

I had no idea that she wrote about any of this EL2019*. Thank you for the info. Very interesting.

And leads me to believe there is no way this woman is backtracking now.

SunsetBoulevard3 · 19/12/2019 21:18

Can someone tweet with a link to this thread? She she knows she has support. I am not on twitter.

theflushedzebra · 19/12/2019 21:18

The Strike novels are well worth a read. Robyn is a brilliant character. JK is a true feminist, not a woke one Wink

She even touches on trans-ableism in one of the books - and the effect this has on Strike, a man who has lost his leg. She totally gets it.

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/12/2019 21:18

Just spotted Lawrence!

I'm having a lot of fun explaining basic biology on twitter.

Wtf has happened to science education in the last 20 years?!

NeurotrashWarrior · 19/12/2019 21:19

Someone is quoting Wikipedia as a verifiable source at Lawrence on twitter.

Lamahaha · 19/12/2019 21:19

@EverardDigby that is absolutely hilarious!!! So they are buying books, e and print, deliberately to destroy them? They obviously don't know how royalties work!

Scarscar · 19/12/2019 21:19

I'm pre Potter generation but just bought myself a Gryffindor tshirt for ChristmasGrin

BadgertheBodger · 19/12/2019 21:20

Lawrence Fox?

IsabelleSE19 · 19/12/2019 21:22

Finally delurking after months and months on FWR…

Since we're spotting well-known people on Twitter seemingly supportive of GC, I wanted to mention one of my very special sheroes, Julie Welch. For those that may not know she's a pioneering sports journalist from back in the day, a big Tottenham fan, and the inspiration for the film Those Glory Glory Days (which as a young female Spurs fan I thought was just AMAZING). Seeing her 'like' pro-Maya tweets today has made me feel rather emotional. Love her even more now!

Also as a result of this thread I am now following some fabulous people on Twitter, including of course JKR!

Thank you everyone for everything you do.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 19/12/2019 21:24

Laurence Fox was tweeting in support of Maya hours before JKR joined in!
He generally has fun trolling the woke.

nauticant · 19/12/2019 21:25

There's one thing to keep an eye on. People are referring to Rowling's tweets about this, such as:

twitter.com/jk_rowling/status/826407039861653504

That's from 3 years ago.
